Porsche clinched the remaining two manufacture championships at the final round of the American Le Mans series last weekend. The DHL Penske Porsche of Romain Dumas and Timo Bernhard finished on the LMP2 podium, scoring one more point than Acura, securing the manufactures crown. Meanwhile in GT2, valuable points from the Farnbacher-Loles team resulting in the GT2 crown going to Porsche. At the front, the dominant Audi Sport team finished 1st and 2nd, with Marco Werner and Lucas Luhr from team mates...

The Eleventh running of the 1000 Mile Petit Le Mans resulted in a classic Audi-Peugeot-Audi battle in the last half of the race. Andrew Jennings was at Road Atlanta taking these fantastic images for us. There was drama even before the race had started. 2nd place starter Allan McNish lost control on a warm-up lap and spun his Audi R10 TDi into the barriers. The Scott managed to get the deranged car back to the pits where the Audi crew set to repair the car. “I lost control of the Audi due to...

The Langley 'Good Times' Cruise-in started in 1997 by a group of classic car enthusiasts. Eleven years on, and the small town, just outside of Vancouver is now one of the largest cruises in North America. Classic car TV personality and handbar moustache owner (!) Dennis, Gauge puts it in his top 10. I hadn't been to the Cruise before, so I didn't know what to expect, but I came away massively impressed. In this post we'll concentrate on Domestic cars, but Part Two will feature...

Tales from the Forest……….. In Europe each year we have three famous 24-Hour races on three famous circuits. Le Mans is known by everyone and is the pinnacle of endurance racing with full works entries and massive factory involvement. There is worldwide media coverage on a par with any Grand Prix or NASCAR race and there are fans that follow this race to the exclusion of all others. It is arguably the most famous motorsport event on the planet. Winning here will overshadow any...

Cover your ears! Whenever the Tanaka Racing C5R edition Corvette Z06 passes by me on the track, I can actually feel the exhaust note pounding against my chest. As it passes by me, I can sometimes feel the heat from the exhaust gases on my cheek, as tiny rubber particles sprinkle down on me, sticking to my head, my forearms, and all over my clothing - it makes me feel as if I'm being seasoned with salt and pepper or something. Driven by Conrad Grunewald, a driving instructor from Monterey California...

As I woke up early in the morning to head to Tsukuba Circuit for the Interclub Historic Car Race, I looked outside to find it pouring rain. "Oh great, hopefully it will stop raining soon", I thought to myself. But as it came time to head out, there was no end to the rain in sight. No we aren't just talking about sprinkles, but a hard steady rain that that leaves huge puddles all over the place. I entertained the idea of forgetting about it and staying home, but I decided I would be brave and after a quick stop at the conbini (7-11) to pick up a rain coat, it was off to the track. When I got to the track for the place was already bustling with race cars and drivers......

As I sit here on yet ANOTHER humid and rainy day in Japan, I am reading stories from my friends back home in California talking of 110 degree heat. Yikes. Anyways, that got me thinking of shooting events at Buttonwillow Raceway during the summer and battling the dry heat and all the dust. Not fun. I took this photo during last year's Vintage Auto Racing Association meet, and you can almost feel the heat as you look at the photo. While the heat may have been bad, seeing cool stuff like Corvette...

For the next few car tours, we are going to be exploring the iconic high horsepower, high torque muscle cars that are currently dominating much of the grids in stateside Formula Drift events. V8 power is a big trend in US drifting; whether shoehorning a big block into a Saturn Sky chassis or building out a pony car Mustang. It's pretty challenging for a high revving turbo car to compete with these torque heavy beasts with their on tap wheel spin....

It may not have won at Le Mans this year, but the Corvette C6.R has a long history of success. Corvette Racing, as we know it, made their Competition debut in 1999 in association with race engineering company, Pratt & Miller. Corvette have won the Le Mans class no less than five times and are GT1 ALMS champions for the Seventh consecutive year! The C6.R may look like a standard Corvette Z-06, but there are quite a few differences. The LS7R Engine is built by Katech and ends up close to 600bhp...

The 76th Le Mans 24 Hours came to a dramatic finish, with a victory by Audi with Allan McNish, Rinaldo Capello and Tom Kristensen from the Peugeot of Marc Gene, Nicolas Minassian and Jacques Villeneuve. It marks the eighth wn (yes, EIGHT!!!) for Tom and the second win for Allan. I'm so pleased for Allan, one of the nicest guys around and he's waited 10 years for his second win. Peugeot started from Pole, but suffered some early troubles, with Audi taking the lead. As the sun set, Peugeot...

You will know from the numerous posts on Speedhunters, Le Mans is currently taking place. The race started at 3pm local time with Peugeot leading from the pole. As we enter the 14th hour, it starts raining earlier than planned. Jacques Villenueve (7) leads with the No2 Audi in second. Its not been plain sailing for the Peugeot though. Around the 2 hour mark, all three Peugeots suffered problems, worst was the leader who dropped down to 30th. The Audis gained control before the Peugeots clawed their...

The Autovisie Time Attack is a Dutch event that takes place on Circuit Park Zandvoort. They have different classes in which people can drive their cars. I will show the Pro Street class because it's the most fun and it only allows cars that are streetlegal. This year the fastest time (2:00.163) was driven by Kevin Go in the R33 you see in the picture above. The car has a 900bhp engine build by GT-Art in the UK. Kevin came with the car in the morning, not on a trailer but just with the car itself...

As its Le Mans week on Speedhunters, we will be bringing you a daily update until after the race, filled with photos from our man at the track, John Brooks. Night qualifying Wednesday night saw two qualifying sessions in the evening. The top three places in LMP1 were filled by Peugeot, followed by three Audis. Pescarolo was next followed by the Dome (great result). In GT1 the two Corvettes were ahead of the Gulf Aston Martins. Finally, GT2 saw the Flying Lizards Porsche lead the way. Kruse Mazda...

In the world of Le Mans, 'GT' means, race-cars, loosely based on production sportscars. We are going to look at the GT1 class in this piece, with GT2 class tomorrow. A GT1 car runs at 1125kg (Corvettes & Astons run 25kg heavier) with a maximum engine capacity of 8 Litres for Normally aspirated engines or 4 Litre for Turbo charged cars. Budgets at the top end have resulted in theses cars being close to the Prototypes, we covered yesterday. The GT1 class is generally an Aston Martin v Corvette...

Japanese circuit tuning meets Amercia's sports car icon in this photo I took at Tsukuba two years ago. This C5 Corvette is actually one of several similar cars that can be seen at various racing circuits in Japan. Don't you think Corvettes look cool with TE37's? Any interest in seeing more of this kind of thing in the future?...

The FIA GT Championship is by any other name the SuperCar Series. It is the arena where the most exotic car brands on the planet race against each other in machines derived directly from road going legends…..Ferrari, Aston Martin, Maserati, Porsche, Lamborghini, Corvette, Saleen to name but a few are the current protagonists. The Championship officially kicked off in 1997 but in reality it is the descendant of long distance sportscar racing that has taken place since the beginning of motorsport. The current evolution is that of 9 two-hour sprints plus the 24 Hours of Spa. This format requires that the drivers are mostly full time professionals and consequently the competition is fierce and the races close....
