Photographer Andrew Jennings was at Road Atlanta earlier this month, enjoying a classic Petit Le Mans event. During the weekend, Andrew had the opportunity to get close to the Drayson-Barwell Aston Martin Vantage GT2 race car. Following our popular Car Features on the GT1 Aston Martin DBR9 and Corvette C6.R , we are delighted to feature his words and images for fellow Speedhunters. Words and Images by Andrew Jennings Not long ago I was down in Atlanta to attend the 2008 ALMS Petit Le Mans 1000mile...

The Eleventh running of the 1000 Mile Petit Le Mans resulted in a classic Audi-Peugeot-Audi battle in the last half of the race. Andrew Jennings was at Road Atlanta taking these fantastic images for us. There was drama even before the race had started. 2nd place starter Allan McNish lost control on a warm-up lap and spun his Audi R10 TDi into the barriers. The Scott managed to get the deranged car back to the pits where the Audi crew set to repair the car. “I lost control of the Audi due to...

This trip has been soo incredibly crazy. We've been traveling all over Europe, the UK, and Japan to explore the car cultures in different countries. Currently we're in Japan, so our content has been very drift focused. That definitely isn't a problem for me, because I love drifting and everything about it! Our resident sports car pro, John Brooks, proved to us that he's the man when we were at Spa. He and our new buddy David Lister busted out their arsenal of long range weapons as...

Tales from the Forest……….. In Europe each year we have three famous 24-Hour races on three famous circuits. Le Mans is known by everyone and is the pinnacle of endurance racing with full works entries and massive factory involvement. There is worldwide media coverage on a par with any Grand Prix or NASCAR race and there are fans that follow this race to the exclusion of all others. It is arguably the most famous motorsport event on the planet. Winning here will overshadow any...

...Well maybe but so it would also appear is the appeal of James Bond or 007 as he is known in the trade. This year sees the centenary of the birth of Ian Fleming, author of the original books and ex-naval intelligence officer, and to celebrate this there was a small exhibition on the lawn of Goodwood House amongst the Cartier Style et Luxe Concours d’Elegance. Of course Fleming did not only write the series of Bond books but also Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Sadly at Goodwood there was no sign...

As we come to the end of June, Le Mans month, I thought it was fitting that we featured the Le Mans GT1 winner as a follow up to the Corvette C6.R feature . The Aston Martin DBR9 won a close battle this year at Le Mans, making it two class wins in two years. Aston Martin has a long history in Endurance Racing , including an overall win at Le Mans in 1959, with the DBR1 (see below). Useless fact - DBR Stands for ‘David Brown Racing’, in recognition of the then owner! The DBR9 is the race...

The 76th Le Mans 24 Hours came to a dramatic finish, with a victory by Audi with Allan McNish, Rinaldo Capello and Tom Kristensen from the Peugeot of Marc Gene, Nicolas Minassian and Jacques Villeneuve. It marks the eighth wn (yes, EIGHT!!!) for Tom and the second win for Allan. I'm so pleased for Allan, one of the nicest guys around and he's waited 10 years for his second win. Peugeot started from Pole, but suffered some early troubles, with Audi taking the lead. As the sun set, Peugeot...

You will know from the numerous posts on Speedhunters, Le Mans is currently taking place. The race started at 3pm local time with Peugeot leading from the pole. As we enter the 14th hour, it starts raining earlier than planned. Jacques Villenueve (7) leads with the No2 Audi in second. Its not been plain sailing for the Peugeot though. Around the 2 hour mark, all three Peugeots suffered problems, worst was the leader who dropped down to 30th. The Audis gained control before the Peugeots clawed their...

Thursday Thursday night was eventful at La Sarthe. Red flags and an extended session made the first part of final qualifying exciting. As mid-night approached, most of the teams went for race set ups, but it gave the opportunity for the Charouz Lola Aston Martin move up the grid while the big boys were not watching. Peuegot lock the front of the grid with the No 8 Pedro Lany, Alex Wurz and Stephane Sarrazin car taking pole with an amazing 3.18.513 The pace of the Peugeots has shocked everyone. Reliability...

In the world of Le Mans, 'GT' means, race-cars, loosely based on production sportscars. We are going to look at the GT1 class in this piece, with GT2 class tomorrow. A GT1 car runs at 1125kg (Corvettes & Astons run 25kg heavier) with a maximum engine capacity of 8 Litres for Normally aspirated engines or 4 Litre for Turbo charged cars. Budgets at the top end have resulted in theses cars being close to the Prototypes, we covered yesterday. The GT1 class is generally an Aston Martin v Corvette...

The Le Mans 24 hours takes place this weekend in central France. In the first of three posts, we will go through the different cars of Le Mans, with the aid of the excellent photography of John Brooks. There are two styles of car at Le Mans, each with two classes. At the front of the grid are Le Mans Prototypes (LMP), followed by GT's which are loosely based on road cars. Le Mans Prototypes, explained in simple terms, are specifically built race cars for Endurance racing. Unlike the Corvette's...

The FIA GT Championship is by any other name the SuperCar Series. It is the arena where the most exotic car brands on the planet race against each other in machines derived directly from road going legends…..Ferrari, Aston Martin, Maserati, Porsche, Lamborghini, Corvette, Saleen to name but a few are the current protagonists. The Championship officially kicked off in 1997 but in reality it is the descendant of long distance sportscar racing that has taken place since the beginning of motorsport. The current evolution is that of 9 two-hour sprints plus the 24 Hours of Spa. This format requires that the drivers are mostly full time professionals and consequently the competition is fierce and the races close....

With the Nurburgring 24 Hours this weekend and the Le Mans 24 Hours in less than a month, this fantastic Aston Martin Racing image is very relevant....and cool. The Gulf Aston DBR9 will race at Le Mans while the yellow Vantage N24 will be at the Nurburgring. Other cars are various race cars from GT racing around the world. My wallpaper for a few weeks :)
