The other day when I was in Tokyo, I decided I would try a new type of post here on Speedhunters. I was actually remembering my first trip to Japan and just how excited I was to see random cars on the street, and though it might be kind of cool to show what kind of stuff you see "in the wild" on Japanese streets. If you guys like this sort of thing, let me know and I will do it more often. Events and races are great, but there is always something kind of special about seeing an a cool car on the street....

It's hard to choose between these two cars. Both cars are special in their own way. The S2000 GT1 build by Amuse and the Spoon S2000 have shown what they are worth. The cars you see in the pictures are customer cars photographed by Chester NG who lives in Hong Kong. Both customers have gone through the products database from their favorite tuner and ordered everything there was. I'm still a big fan of the ‘orange' Amuse S2000 that was used in several Hot Version DVD's. Keiichi...

Time for some more action from the VTEC-drenched spectacle that was I Heart Honda!! 2008 at Tsukuba Circuit. I figured that this shot of a legendary EK9 Civic Type R undergoing some work in the paddock would be good way to open this post. There are few things that symbolize Honda performance machines more than the Championship White paint and red engine valve covers used on all of the R-badged vehicles. Speaking of Championship White, during the I Heart Honda!! event I must have seen more Championship White cars than I have ever seen before....

I know this is Porsche month, but after spending last Friday at Tsukuba Circuit for the first ever I Heart Honda!! event, I just can't seem to get the sound of screaming VTEC engines out of my head. What is it about Honda? Japan's automotive scene has no shortage of remarkable machines like high-powered GT-R highway racers, time attack Imprezas, four-door Toyota drift cars, or groundbreaking rotary cars, but there is just something special about Honda's performance cars. You can check out my earlier article about Honda's Collection Hall at Twin Ring Motegi for a little more on Honda's unique history and the brand's lifelong infusion with motorsports around the world.
While Honda's in-house racing programs are nothing short of amazing, the I Heart Honda!! event was not really about Honda's factory racing ventures, but a celebration of Japanese Honda Tuning on a grand scale....

Time for some more coverage from Thursday's HKS Hiper Meeting at Tsukuba Circuit. There was just too much cool stuff to jam into one post. I read through the comments you guys left on the first post and tried to include some more photos of the cars you wanted to see (they happen to be the same ones I was digging). Just look at the first shot with a pair of Subarus, an S2000, an Evo X and an R32 GT-R in the background. This is why I love hanging out at Tsukuba Circuit!...

Today as I was driving out to Tsukuba Circuit, I realized that it has been quite a while since I have shot any traditional "tuning car" race events. I have covered other Tsukuba events recently like the Idlers Games and the JCCA Summer Meeting, but I was looking forward to seeing some fully tuned GT-R's, RX7's, S2000's attacking the circuit. With fall in the air, Tsukuba is again becoming busy with time trial and soukoukai events and I for one am happy be putting the humid, rainy summer behind me. The event I was going to was the HKS Hiper Challenge at the Tsukuba 2000 Course, part of a series of events held by HKS at tracks all over Japan. This particular event was it's second of three Hiper Challenges at Tsukuba this year. The Hiper Challenge includes time trial and free run classes for everyone from beginners in their daily drivers to pros driving shop demo cars. After spending a little time at the Hiper Challenge, my tuning car thirst would be more than quenched....

Thanks to Jonathan Wong and the crew at Super Street Magazine, we have some photos and results from the Super Lap Qualifying event that was held at Willow Springs International Raceway earlier this month. Although the scorching summertime desert heat does not quite make for ideal time attack conditions, many of the big names in American time attack came out and ran for the chance to compete in the final event at Buttonwillow Raceway in November. The drivers list included many big names like Formula D stars Tanner Foust and Tyler McQuarrie and of course Speedhunter Chris Rado in his World Racing Scion TC time attack car which is pictured above......

The current Honda S2000 is one the biggest cars in the tuner market and motorsports world by far, and that is why we are watching the development of the next generation S2000 with a very close eye. Japanese Performance Car News is reporting on some new S2K rumors that come not surprisingly, from a Japanese car magazine. According to the latest speculation, the new S2000 will be released for the 2010 model year and will be available with both a 2.4L four cylinder AND a 3.5L V6. Hrm...a V6 S2000 I mean "S3500"? Sounds a little strange to me......

As I was preparing to leave the office early for an afternoon of go karting with my brother, I just received some interesting photos! Check out this S2000, with a full C-West dry carbon aero kit, driven by a friend of the Speedhunters, Tyler McQuarrie! I hear that this S2K has a fully built F20C engine with Brian Crower internals and a Greddy turbo, but I'd love to see it for myself! The car looks pretty cool - my fondness for S2Ks is growing by the minute! (Don't worry, you still won't...

Since the Acura NSX was discontinued, the Honda S2000 has been Honda's only rear wheel drive offering for a while, and still remains extremely popular with Honda afficionados. Maybe it has something to do with the great weight balance of the car, or the resonsive F22C engine? Since so many of my fellow AE86 owners have been swapping in F20C Honda engines (first generation S2000 engine) into their AE86s in favor of the slow and beloved 4AG powerplant that keeps my own car running, I decided I...

The Driven to perform car show touched down in Vancouver last weekend, and brought with it a barrage of cars that remind me that car culture is alive and well. I was there to see the local scene as it came out of hibernation.
As for the "Who the hell are you?" bit, here goes: Based out of Vancouver, and being an artist on the Need For Speed games, I'm a bit of a car nut, and a "Honda guy". You know. One of those. Anyways, on with the show. ...

Most tuner car fans are probably familiar with the wild Tsukuba Special S2000 time attack car built by ASM, but that car is not the only S2000 in only ASM's fleet. ASM's other cars may be more mild in execution, but they are no less impressive. Last weekend the ASM crew took their " 1-go" S2000 to Fuji Speedway for a testing session with with pro driver Shinichi Takagi. Takagi drives the GT300 ARTA Garaiya in the Super GT series. Obviously, ASM doesn't fool around when it comes...

My how things have changed. I remember when the time attack movement in the states first started a few years ago. You could count the number of spectators at the events with one hand. Now we have time attack cars running on the Long Beach Grand Prix street course in front of thousands. Take a look at this in car video from the AJ Racing S2000 during last month's Super Lap All Stars event in Long Beach. The sound is something that can only be made by a tuned S2000 running flat out.

In just a few short years, the annual Honda-only gathering at the Eibach's facility in Southern California has become one of the most talked about events in the American tuning scene. Despite the growth of the drifting, VIP, and time attack movements, Hondas continue to be one of the most popular tuning platforms in the United States. The Eibach meet is the place to see all of the latest trends among the Honda crowd. This weekend was the big event, and Honda junkies braved the blazing hot SoCal...
