My final race of the 2008 season was the Super Street Super Lap Battle finale out at Buttonwillow. My team and I really wanted to finish the season off with a bang and do well in this last event. This event had a huge turnout and had drivers from all over the world there to compete. Our team knew that not only would our tC need to be on-point for this event, but that we needed to strategize a game plan because of some of the mechanical limitations of our car. We needed a plan that would allow us...

I know everyone has already seen all the pictures and read all the coverage of the Red Bull World Championship, but I just wanted to touch on it from my point of view. My brain analyzes nonstop; sometimes I love it, sometimes I want it to turn off. At this event I had the realization of just how far our sport has come, especially in America. I mean I obviously have realized it to a certain degree, but this event was just like "WOW...we are doing it." I think some of this came from the overall...

I literally only saw Stephane from Clashproduction for around 1 minute at Red Bull; I was rushing off to try and get some shots of the Pro-Am finals and he was in the media center sorting out his video credentials. I can see that since then he has been hard at work making a fantastic montage film about the event.
It seems that with every Clashproduction film produced the quality bar for drifting films is raised to a new level!
Nice work Stephane.

Ok final report from Red Bull... We all know the results by now of course but let's take one final look at the tandem bouts for those who are interested in the play by play unfolding of events....

Sorry for the delay in getting this post out guys... my todo list is currently out of control. Spending 2 weeks travelling at SEMA, EA DICE Sweden, Superlap Battle and Red Bull Long Beach now means that I'm rather snowed under at the office.
So without further a due, let's jump in to our review of the Top 16 battles from the Red Bull Drifting World Championships....

This is sort of an alternative-styled post for Speedhunters. It's not necessarily focused on a car, and not necessarily lifestyle either. I just wanted to point this out to our loyal Speedhunters readers in other parts of the world - this past week, Southern California has been on alert because of several wildfires spreading throughout all ovdry brush and foliage-covered mountainser Southern California, coming dangerously close to many residential areas near the Red Bull World Drift Championship...

Ok let's jump straight in and look at each Red Bull drift battle from the " Dirty 32 ", as Formula Drift announcer J-Rod called the Top 32. In some ways the Top 32 was the most fascinating part of the competition, as it featured the widest variety of cars from the corners of the globe. It felt for a moment that most of the world's international drifting communities had come together to create one of the biggest, most ambitious drift events ever. Hats off to every one who participated...

2008 Red BullWorld Drift Champion is................Rhys Millen. He beat his team mate Daijiro Yoshihara in the final to take top spot. In front of a full house down on the course laid out over the dockside at Long Beach, Millen and his Red Bull Pontiac Solstice dominated the opposition to win the title and $25,000 the largest purse in drifting history. Second place overall was Yoshihara and his Bridgestone / RMR Pontiac GTO. The final step on the podium was taken by Tanner Foust and the Rockstar...

I'll keep this short and sweet, since you guys have been seeing a play by play from the other Speedhunters posts... I'm pretty sure we've written/published more about the Red Bull drift event than most other media outlets thus far, and the event isn't even over yet... I just woke up, and am about to get ready to drive back out from Irwindale area to Long Beach... Up top, that's Robbie Bolger driving Blake Fuller's Braille 350Z. Pretty nice of Blake to let Robbie drive his...

Tonight seems to be social night at the official Red Bull event hotel: The Westin Long Beach. There are many people floating about the lobby, restaurant and bar talking shop so to speak and our resident photographic guru seems to be having a great time chatting with all the drift crews and showing today's Speedhunters photos... I've just pulled myself away from the festivities in order to complete this blog post. The day started out with the arrival of the two British cars to the paddock...

Super gangster, that's all I can say. I'm not even talking about the car; I'm talking about my boy Chris Manacop stopping it down to 1/25 of a second and capturing what might be the most "artistic" photo ever taken of the Retaks S13. From today's Red Bull event. There is a clearly defined subject - the car, which is sharp and crisp, as it should be. Framed nicely against a wide, blurry background. This is dope. This is the type of photo that the Retaks crew needs to get...

Here is a quick snap shot (quite literally) of the official elimination table for tomorrow's Red Bull Drifting World Championship. Should be amazing day! The top 5 qualifiers are as follows: 1: Rhys Millen: no surprizes there... 2: Samuel Hubinette: the FD drift royalty comes out on top.... 3: Paul Vlasblom: BIG NEWS! he had the crowd screaming and yelling with his wall proximity and 100% foot to the floor style. 4: Katsuhiro Ueo: his drift initiations were amazing. 5: Darren McNamara: he looked...

So I was going through my photos late last night after I got home from the Formula D Pro Am in Long Beach, and I fell asleep. I won't lie. I was tired as hell! Speedhunting is a 7-day-a-week job. You shoot on the weekends and you post up stuff every weekday... So here's a few of my photos from Pro-Am, I'll try to post some more later... but right now I need to get in the car and drive to Long Beach to do this all over again... This being said, big ups to the Drift Association crew and...

While the majority of western countries on the planet are bracing themselves for the cold of winter, today was a hot, sweaty day at in Southern California. I regretted my choice of skinny jeans today... they may be fashionable, but they sure as hell are uncomfortable in hot weather... Anyway blah, blah, blah... Let's look at the day's action from Long Beach. It was a day of hope for some competitors, but a day of frustration and carnage for many others....

I thought it would be a cool idea to show you one complete run, on the Red Bull Long Beach Dockyards drift course. This way, those of you who can't travel out to the event can get a feel for the track.
The following sequence of photos is shot from the judge's tower:...

Just got back to the office, after being at the Port of Long Beach all day for the Red Bull World Drift Championship setup day and Formula D Pro Am... so I just thought I'd show some of the scenes today. The backdrop is really cool... all the shipping containers and cranes and bridges surrounding the port... I dig it. It looks very cool, kind of like (okay, don't roll your eyes too hard here) a video game. Okay, sorry, I said it. So sue me. Actually, no, don't sue me. I don't have...

The Formula D guys have been very busy preparing for this weekend's Red Bull Drifting World Championship in Long Beach. They recently posted some photos on the official Formula D blog of the course construction that is going on at the Port of Long Beach right now. It looks like its shaping up to be a pretty interesting course and and the towering cranes and container ships make for a dramatic backdrop....

Earlier this week we previewed the Formula D drivers that will be appearing in next weekend's Red Bull Drifting World Championship in Long Beach, and now its time for the second part where we'll take a look at the international drivers that are making the journey to California for the event. Although there were some conflicts in arranging D1GP drivers to appear ,there is still a wide variety of drivers from around the world that will be competing in the event and hopefully things will go better with D1 next year.
Anyways, on to the cars and drivers-...
