This is a bit of an epic slomo moment film coming in at 4 minutes duration. Perhaps a little self indulgent, but a must viewing for any purist drift car obsessive. The film shows the entire top 16 field from the recent Formula Drift New Jersey round as they roll in to the driver introductions..... I want you to consider as you watch this just how many of these cars have the full backing of a factory car or tire team..... it's pretty full on..... Also an amazing variety of machines. The only thing we are missing is a drifting BMW....

It was a beautiful summer drifting moment: the smell of burning rubber.... intense humidity, sweat and grit baking my skin... a rowdy east coast crowd... a fantastic evening sunset......and team mates Rhys Millen and Daijiro Yoshihara going at it for the final Formula Drift New Jersey podium position. What could be better?...

Most fans and spectators at drift events don't get to see the behind the scenes drama unfolding in the pits, or in the grid area, so being the thoughtful person I am, I thought I'd show you some images from the starting grid at Formula D New Jersey. Above, Chuck and Keith from Apex Integration are serving as trackside support for Ryuji Miki and the Apex'i FD3S he's driving in competition. Being lightweight and nimble, Keith was able to just jump into the back of the car to help Chuck...

By now most of you have seen the automotive action photos I shot at the Formula D New Jersey event. However, I just wanted to make a quick entry with some of the lifestyle photos. Formula D has a unique lifestyle aspect to it, that makes it feel different than D1GP or Nopi Drift or any of the other drift series in the USA. So here are some of my lifestyle photos from Formula Drift, hope you like them! Above, I think it looks really cool at the end of the day when the drivers and teams are loading...

Is the outcome of this drift battle the effect of the BHP/Torque arms race that is hitting American drifting? Was it the sheer grunt power of the Conrad Grunewald's Corvette that allowed him to open up such a huge gap to Taketori's R34? Is this the main element that caught out the Skyline driver and caused him to overshoot his corner entry? What do you think?...

Here are some of our favorite photos and outtakes from the Formula D competition rounds at New Jersey's Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, better known as Englishtown. We decided not to post complete play-by-play coverage, because plenty of other sites do that already. Instead, we've decided to zero in on certain photos and aspects of the event that we thought were interesting! Check it out!...

The Formula D New Jersey event was this weekend, as most of you already know. New Jersey was real hot this weekend, and relatively humid. I've been in worse humidity, but for me, any sort of humid situation isn't very comfortable! We were out in the hot sun all day long; we were getting sticky with the combination of humidity, perspiration, fumes from race fuel evaporating onto our skin, sunblock lotion, fumes from tire smoke, and small chunks of tire sticking to our arms, face and clothes...

I realize everyone wants to see more photos, but it's 4:00 AM right now, and we have to be at the track early tomorrow morning to shoot the actual Formula D event. So I'll keep it short and sweet. I have a ton of photos from Formula D practice and qualifying today, but I'll just leave you with this one photo. Justin Pawlak, who normally drives a blue FC3S Turbo II RX-7, blew his motor prior to qualifying. Luckily for Justin, he was able to borrow an S13 from an East Coast Drift Alliance...

As I write this, it's super late at night; we're all tired and sunburnt from yet another long day at the racetrack, shooting images and video of Formula D New Jersey, at Englishtown Raceway. I'm sitting in the lobby of our hotel in New Jersey, using the hotel's wireless internet to upload photos to the site, while the rest of the Formula D people - staff, drivers, judges, etc are all sitting around with me, watching the LA Lakers play the Boston Celtics. Since I don't really care...
