The eventful 2008 season of Super GT is now in the books. The final race of the year was held yesterday at Fuji Speedway under and despite the not-so unusual cloudy weather, things were looking bright for the Nissan GT-R teams that were aiming to finish off their season of dominance by taking the GT500 drivers championship. From the photos, it looks like the stands at Fuji were packed. According to Super GT, 47,100 race fans braved the cold and cloudy weather to watch the final race of 2008....

The end of the 2008 Super GT season is almost here, and following this past Sunday's race at Autopolis, there is just one event left on the schedule. Fans and race teams were greeted with sunny and pleasant fall weather at the track which is located on Japan's southern main island of Kyushu and is one of the nicest race tracks in the country. It has been great year in Super GT for the NIssan teams who have campaigned their new GT-R's to a number of victories. Things were already looking good for the GT-R at Autopolis as the Nismo Xanavi GT-R would be starting from the pole in the GT500 class....

The crew at Spoon Sports has been really busying getting their new NSX-R race car ready for next month's Macau Grand Prix. After first bringing the car out to the I Heart Honda!! event at Tsukuba Circuit last month, they continued their preparations by taking the NSX to Sportsland Sugo in Miyagi Prefecture yesterday for some testing. Yoshi at Spoon has been keeping me updated on the progress of the car and he sent me some photos taken yesterday during the testing session....

I have been quite busy working on new Speedhunters stories and preparing for my trip to this weekend's Motorsport Japan Festival in Odaiba, but before I move on to that stuff, I wanted to take one last look at last Friday's I Heart Honda!! event at Tsukuba Circuit. Judging by the feedback I have been reading on these posts, it appears that you guys are also down to see more of the hundreds of cool Hondas that converged on Tsukuba for the event....

Being in Japan has given me the opportunity to see a lot of record-breaking tuner cars like the HRS Cyber Evo and Top Fuel S2000, but there is always something great about seeing a non-Japanese company do amazing things with a Japanese car. This NSX was built by Love Fab Motorsports in Buckley, Michigan, a company with many years of experience in custom turbo kits for all sorts of cars. On a recent trip to the dyno, this fully built turbocharged NSX put down an astonishing 921 RWHP and 641 ft. lbs of torque. I'd say there is little reason to doubt Love Fab's claim that this is the most powerful NSX in the world. ...

I know this is Porsche month, but after spending last Friday at Tsukuba Circuit for the first ever I Heart Honda!! event, I just can't seem to get the sound of screaming VTEC engines out of my head. What is it about Honda? Japan's automotive scene has no shortage of remarkable machines like high-powered GT-R highway racers, time attack Imprezas, four-door Toyota drift cars, or groundbreaking rotary cars, but there is just something special about Honda's performance cars. You can check out my earlier article about Honda's Collection Hall at Twin Ring Motegi for a little more on Honda's unique history and the brand's lifelong infusion with motorsports around the world.
While Honda's in-house racing programs are nothing short of amazing, the I Heart Honda!! event was not really about Honda's factory racing ventures, but a celebration of Japanese Honda Tuning on a grand scale....

Let me tell you a story real quick. Yesterday, I drove all the way to Willow Springs Raceway (about a 2 hour drive through the scorching heat of the Mojave Desert) to shoot the Super Street Super Lap Battle. However, when I showed up at Willow to sign for my media pass, the lady at the gate said, "What? What's Super Street? I don't know of anything like that happening today..." What?! Oh hell no. It appears we had a bit of a mix up. We received wrong information, and the date we...

Following our Honda NSX post last week, Auto-Express magazine in the UK have produced some artist impressions of how they think the NSX may look. Its worth remembering that these are just speculation. Sometimes, the magazines will have insider information and sometimes they won't. They will also have the hi-res images of the scoop images to work with. So, if we assume these are accurate, you can see some influence from the Acura 'Advanced Sports Car' concept from the 2007 Detroit Motor...

Last week my friend from AME wheels contacted me and told me that Feel's Honda Twin Cam was holding a soukoukai at Tsukuba Circuit and that I should come check it out. I have always been impressed by the the cars that Feel's has built so I knew it would be worth the trip. While Feel's may not have quite the name recognition as Spoon, Mugen, or J's Racing, they are one of Japan's biggest and oldest Honda tuners. They have a few different locations throughout the Kanto area and...

Knowing Honda, it's not a surprise that they aren't content to sit and watch Nissan and Lexus own the Japanese supercar game. As these recent spy shots show, Honda is working full steam ahead on the next generation NSX. Although heavily obscured, you can still make out the overall body shape of the new car which will aim right for the Nissan GT-R and the Lexus LF-A......

A pair of mid '90s era Honda NSX race cars. The car on the right is from the 1995 24H of Le Mans and the car on the left is a JGTC (Now Super GT) machine from roughly the same time period. I took this photo a couple years ago at the Honda Collection Hall. I was hoping to see the Le Mans car again when I was at the Collection Hall a few weeks ago but it wasn't there, at the time. Maybe they were tuning it up for a revival?...

Besides the Nissan Skyline I’m also a big fan of the Honda NSX. Here we have another fine example. Some people would say this is too much, but I know allot of you guys are going to love this. I still believe that the NSX is one of the most underestimated Japanese cars. In new editions of Best Motoring they still use the NSX as a benchmark car. Remember this is for a introduced in 1990....

Elvis Presley was known by his fans as “The King”, the nickname is also applied in stockcar racing to Richard Petty………so it is clear that you have to be more than a bit special to get this moniker applied to you in your particular field………..well, as most of you are already aware drifting has its own royalty. Keiichi Tsuchiya, “Dori Kin” or “Drift King”, one of the most important figures in the sport of drifting, has made...

Every year in the Japanese Time Attack scene, there’s only one event to remember and that’s the REVspeed Time Attack event at Tsukuba. All the major tuners in Japan are there to present their new cars and products. One of those tuners is Esprit and they always enter their blue and white NSX. Last year they managed a time of 57:506 seconds, getting it in the top 10 of fastest times that day.. The nice thing about Esprit is that you can buy most of the items on their Time Attack cars for...
