The S14 Silvia from the Magician drift team always seems to be popular, so how about a high res desktop wallpaper of it? I shot this photo during the recent MSC event at Nikko Circuit and if you look closely you can see that the Magican decal on the driver's helmet is almost aligned with the decal on the windshield. I thought that was kind of cool.
Anyways, head to the Desktops section to download it in both widescreen and standard versions....

I was just going through some more photos from last weekend's MSC event at Nikko Circuit and realized I have some more cool stuff to post. I can't say enough how fun MSC events are to shoot. The vast number of cool-looking cars and exciting driving provides a wealth of good shooting possibilities, and even though Nikko is a small course, there are still tons of nice angles to be found all over the place. In the shot above we have the Spirant JZX100 Chaser with it's sexy shade of red paint and ZG style overfenders. We talk about JZX's all the time on Speedhunters, but this car is certainly one of the best I have ever seen......

Time for more some more action from last weekend's MSC Challenge event at Nikko Circuit. There is just something about these MSC events that offer the perfect balance of talented drivers and impressive cars without the drawbacks of a "pro" drifting event. MSC events are run on smaller courses meaning there are few grandstands or other amenities seen at the larger circuits. While there are many big sponsors of the series, MSC is still about the drivers first and foremost. I feel that the above photo does a good job of portraying the atmosphere of MSC. Everyone is just chilling in the gravel spectator area taking in the action while standing only about 20 feet from the track....

What is your idea of the perfect first wedding anniversary? A gourmet dinner and a walk on the beach perhaps? Maybe some soft piano music and glasses of wine? What about taking a trip to see the best grassroots drift series in Japan tearing it up on one of the world's most iconic drift courses? That is just where I found myself yesterday as I somehow convinced my wife to not only let me go out and shoot drifting on our anniversary, but also to tag along with me on the trip. I guess I am pretty lucky sometimes....

I have been thinking about MSC a lot as I prepare for my trip to this weekend's MSC match at Nikko Circuit and I wanted to share some more photos of this crazy-looking C33 Nissan Laurel that we spotted at last month's MSC event at Honjo Circuit. Drift car style ranges from the subtle to the mildly aggressive, to the not so mildly aggressive. This particular C33 falls under the third category for sure. We are no strangers to discussion about wheel fitment here, and this car is sporting some of the most aggressive fitment I have seen on any car anywhere....

Those of you who have read previous stories I've written in magazines, or in my hardcover book, Drifting: Sideways from Japan to America , might have read some of the things I've written about Japanese drifting culture and street drifting style. Rod told me was pretty taken aback with the things he saw and experienced when we attended the MSC event at Honjyo Circuit; apparently it was the first time he experienced Japanese street drifting style firsthand, and was pretty amazed by it. I think...

It's the end of another week as well as the end of another month, so that means it's time for some more desktop wallpapers. This time I went with a shot of the Rasty JZX100 Mark II from the MSC Honjo event as well as a photo from last weekend's Idlers Meeting at Tsukuba Circuit. I thought that the Idlers photo will be a good way to close out August and welcome September which will be our "Porsche Month". I'm sure you have seen some our Porsche teasers we have been posting at over the past days and weeks. For now, you can head over to the Desktops section to get the goods....

The end of the week is drawing closer, and I'll be going back up to the Fukushima area of Japan, so I can attend the D1 Grand Prix event at Ebisu Circuit . However, before I head back up to Ebisu, I thought I'd share some more photos from the MSC Event at Honjyo Circuit ! The pit area at Honjyo Circuit was full of wild colored drift cars, ranging from your standard 2 door cars, like AE86s and S13s, S14s, and S15s all the way to cool 4 door drift cars, like C33s, JZX100s and JZX110s! In this...

When I was at the MSC event last weekend admiring all of the cool-looking drift cars, I noticed a black JZX100 Mark II that looked a little familiar. I had never seen the car at a drift event before, but being a big fan of the JZX chassis, I clearly remembered seeing the car at a grip event at Tsukuba Circuit back in March of this year. It was built by Car Make Rasty and you may have seen a photo of this car in my 101 post about the JZX series. Just looking at the car, you can tell that it is a bit different from the typical JZX drift cars you see in Japan. The car's aero parts are of a different style than those usually seen on drift cars, and the car's vibe just screamed "function"....

One of the jobs I had while working on last year's Need for Speed release "Pro Street" was the design of fictional street race/drift car crews to populate throughout the game's universe. I spent a bit of time researching Japan's famous street race and drift crews and did my best to try and capture this feeling in game. One of the main design premises of Pro Street was to look the cross over point between illegal street race/drift scenes and legit organized events... Coming from...

There is just something awesome about watching an MSC drift event. I love going to all sorts of drift events ranging from normal soukoukai practice days to D1GP matches, but I think I have found that MSC offers something that you can't really find at other events. I guess you could say that it combines the "balls to the wall" spirit of pro drifting with the car style and overall casual atmosphere of a typical practice event. As I was watching the drivers make their runs, it was hard to think that nearly none of them were pro drivers and that most of them were driving their own personal cars and not ones that are built and maintained for them. There is prize money at MSC events, but you can tell that is not why the drivers were putting it all on the line....

Off the chain!!! Exactly what I was thinking in my head when I saw this group of JZX chassis 4-door sedans doing a three-car tandem at the MSC Challenge at Honjyou Circuit !!! It was sooo exciting, I was actually cheering for them as they passed me!!! It was so incredible... Team Orange they're not, so they didn't have a completely perfect combination driving lines and angle and distance between the cars the whole time... but I don't care. I am also big, big fan of Magician - the Chiba...

Talk about a busy day. Left Tsukuba at 6:00 in the morning to take a drive down the rain soaked highway out to Honjo Circuit in Saitama to cover the MSC drift event there. After spending the entire day shooting the event with Rod and Antonio and then driving back home, I am pretty beat and am looking forward to some much needed sleep. Before hitting the sack, however, I couldn't resist posting a few quick shots from the event. Even though it was just a one-day event, the three of us came home...

Yesterday we took a look at some of the cars seen in Japan's top level D1GP series but now it's time to take a look at the other side of the Japanese drift spectrum. the MSC Challenge series. Since MSC is a grassroots level series filled with privateer drivers, you have to look at the MSC cars from a different viewpoint than the pro level cars seen in D1. MSC events are held at all corners of Japan from Kyushu in the south to Hokkaido in the north, so few or no drivers compete in every event. Because of this, you also get a wide variety of cars depending on the region the event is being held in. I will try to show some of the more interesting and unique cars seen at MSC events as well as some of my personal favorites from the series......

Well it's official.
Former D1 star and current Super GT driver Manabu "Max" Orido will be be competing in the upcoming Formula D event at Las Vegas behind the wheel of the Project Mu/3T Motorsport/Yokohama Tire JZS161 Aristo. It's been a while since Orido has competed in pro drifting so it will be very interesting to see how he does against FD's finest during the much anticipated match at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on July 11-12......

After round two at Ebisu, it was time for MSC to head west for its third round of the season, which was held on the C-course at Meihan Sportsland. Due to its central location, Meihan is able to draw participants from both the Nagoya and Osaka areas. If you missed my last post about MSC, you can check it out right here to get a little background info on the series. With that, let's get right to the action from Meihan. Starting off with the beginner class, Keiichi Nishijima drove this bumperless...

If you have followed the drifting scene in Japan, you are probably familiar with the MSC drift series. Unlike the D1GP, where the grids are filled mostly with pro drivers with large support teams, MSC has more of a grassroots vibe. The first time I saw an MSC event was two years ago, and man I was impressed with these guys. In a way, the MSC events are a like the D1 events from the early days. Like D1, however, the MSC series has also been growing. Last year, MSC announced a partnership with both...
