Our resident video editor: Riley Vigier started calling this video "Ultimate Drift" during the course of the post production process. It's a fairly good descriptor for this Speedhunters drifting art film. We've basically taken all our favourite slomo shots from the 2008 Formula drift season and compiled them into a montage style music video. As ever, the film features a custom score from Speedhunters London, UK based audio producer: Ekstrak . Enjoy the film! It's a good one...

Last night our resident huggable Speedhunter, Antonio Alvendia went out to attend the launch of the new Ford Mustang... Being the world's number one drifting fanatic, his main interest was to point his lens at Vaughn Gittin's new Mustang. The car's all carbon fiber body work was presented with an all blue finish. You can be assured next time you see this car, it will have its full Falken livery in place. Although it has the appearance of a production style Mustang, this machine is every...

This is sort of an alternative-styled post for Speedhunters. It's not necessarily focused on a car, and not necessarily lifestyle either. I just wanted to point this out to our loyal Speedhunters readers in other parts of the world - this past week, Southern California has been on alert because of several wildfires spreading throughout all ovdry brush and foliage-covered mountainser Southern California, coming dangerously close to many residential areas near the Red Bull World Drift Championship...

So I was going through my photos late last night after I got home from the Formula D Pro Am in Long Beach, and I fell asleep. I won't lie. I was tired as hell! Speedhunting is a 7-day-a-week job. You shoot on the weekends and you post up stuff every weekday... So here's a few of my photos from Pro-Am, I'll try to post some more later... but right now I need to get in the car and drive to Long Beach to do this all over again... This being said, big ups to the Drift Association crew and...

The Formula D guys have been very busy preparing for this weekend's Red Bull Drifting World Championship in Long Beach. They recently posted some photos on the official Formula D blog of the course construction that is going on at the Port of Long Beach right now. It looks like its shaping up to be a pretty interesting course and and the towering cranes and container ships make for a dramatic backdrop....

Most of the members of Team Falken will tell you that 2008 was a pretty tough year for them. Mechanical gremlins and delayed race car builds certainly pushed their stamina limits over the course of the season. None the less, they continue to be one of the most popular teams in Formula Drift. Go to any Formula Drift meeting and you'll find that there's always a big crowd around Team Falken's pit area. There is a real reason for this in my opinion. These guys continually give to the sport of drifting like no other team does. They are a perfect reflection of the true ethos of drift culture....

Wow, I didn't see this one coming! Apparently, the folks at Scion are very happy with the way things have been going thus far in their inaugural season of Formula Drift. Kenshiro Gushi and his RS*R Scion TC finished in 14th place in the 2008 Formula D rankings, appearing in the Top 16 tandem drift competition at four different Formula D Championship round events. Kenshiro sure has come a long way from the beige metallic colored SR20 powered PS13 240SX he started with when I first met him at his...

Just a quick heads-up for our North American Speedhunters. Speed TV's coverage of Formula D debuts this weekend at 4pm EST Sunday afteroon. The hour long programme featuresRound 1 from Long Beach. The programme will be repeated during the week and a new episode will air the following Sunday, all the way through to Christmas. Meanwhile, if you're in Europe, keep your eye on Motors TV. They are currently showing the EDC finale in Poland and UK Time Attack. Next air-ing is on Wednesday. - Andy...

A moment of impact.... Robbie Nishida takes out a pylon and shatters his front bumper. UK photographer David Lister was there to shoot the image.
You saw David's incredible gallery from the practice and qualifying sessions at Formula Drift Irwindale.... now let's look at his snaps from the event proper....

Here is the recipe for this story: Take one UK based sports and touring car photographer, add the ingredient of his killer 500mm camera lens setup, mix with the mayhem of top-calibre Formula Drift action and brew with the ambience of Irwindale Speedway. What you get from this is drifting as you have never seen it before . I've been a fan of the photographic style of Sportscarpros.com for a few years now and immediately thought of these guys as soon as we started to brainstorm ideas for the Speedhunters...

As you may have already read from a previous Speedhunters report on the Formula D 2008 results , Tanner Foust won big at the Formula Drift Finale!!! He led the series in points for this past season, capturing the overall 2008 Formula D Series Championship once again! Congratulations to Tanner, he is definitely on a roll - from all his accomplishments in stunt driving ( Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift , Bourne Ultimatum, Dukes of Hazzard, etc), rally events (don't forget his X Games win!), other...

With yesterday's season finale at Irwindale Speedway, the fifth season of Formula Drift is in the books and that means in addition to the series champ, 16 of the drivers for next month's Red Bull World Drifting Championship have also been finalized. Before getting into the season standings, congrats must go to our own Vaughn Gittin Jr. for his win at Irwindale which marked his first career victory in Formula D. More congrats should go to rising driver Justin Pawlak for taking third place in his FC3S and of course to Tanner Faust for second place in the event and more notably his second consecutive Formula D championship....

One car that definitely made waves in the United States professional drifting scene is the JIC Magic/Hankook Tires Porsche 993 GT2. This car is being driven in the Formula Drift Series by Northern California's Tyler McQuarrie, a driving instructor at Infineon Raceway. This was the first-ever Porsche to be used for professional drifting in the United States, and as a result, it made a lot of media headlines when it first came out. During the Formula D New Jersey round, it was almost impossible...

OK so maybe all of the exact drivers have not been determined yet, but the slots on the roster for the first ever Red Bull Drifting World Championship have been announced. The event will be held on November 15th and 16th in Long Beach, CA and will include 32 drivers from 12 different countries and all of the major drift series around the world. The top 16 drivers from this year's Formula D standings will be invited and obviously those drivers won't be determined for sure until after the close of the season. The same goes for the other series which will be sending their current champions to the event....

Over the course of the Formula D season, you have probably gotten used to Rod and Antonio's first hand reports as they traveled around the country to the different events on schedule. As you know though, they were not able to make it to last weekend's Seattle round as they were here in Japan instead. Luckily, we have event photos from our friends at Wrecked Magazine and though you probably already know the results, let's take a quick look at the photos. Tony Angelo's RX8 has to be...

It's time to finish up our look at the top 10 drift cars of all time and reveal our pick for number one. Before we reveal the top car, let's first look at some of our "honorable mentions". These are cars that made people's lists but did not quite make it into the group's top 10. Cars like Kawabata's S15 pictured above are a good example of these cars. Although the car has achieved a lot of success in D1 recently, it coudn't quite match up with the other cars on the list as far as the overall picture is concerned.
Here a few more of our honorable mentions....

In the previous post we started our top 10 drift cars countdown with a look at numbers 10-6 on the list. Now we will continue with numbers 5-2 before announcing the winner in the final post. If you haven't read our criteria for picking these cars, make sure you check out the first post.
Well, let's jump right back into it with our choice for number 5....

As I'm sure you know, during the month of July we spent a lot of time covering different aspects of the drifting world. Even though it's now August, we still have a few special drifting features left, and this is one of them. A few weeks back, we came up with the crazy idea of doing a "Top 10" list of the world's iconic drift cars. When compiling the list we considered criteria like the number of individual victories and championships, longevity in competition, breakthrough achievements, or cars that have have had a major influence on the sport. Of course we also rated the cars based on our personal ideas of what makes a great drift car....

Right now, I'm sitting in my hotel room in Frankfurt Germany, with the air conditioning turned up so cold I think my laptop might have icicles forming on it soon - just the way I like it! Walking through the airport in Frankfurt, I saw quite a few people who sort of look like Samuel Hubinette! After all, he looks very European (obviously - he's from Sweden!), even though the car he drives in Formula D competition is straight up American muscle. So to keep within the theme of all the drifting...

By now you must have seen my fellow Speedhunter Mike Garrett's posting on " The Cars of the D1 Grand Prix ." I thought I'd continue this theme, with photos of the cars in the Formula Drift Championship series. Here are the Top 16 cars (in order, based on the rankings on the Formula D website) in Formula Drift, as well as some other cars that I just thought were interesting! Starting with car number one, we can't forget Tanner Foust and his AEM/Rockstar Z33 350Z (above). He won...
