Our resident video editor: Riley Vigier started calling this video "Ultimate Drift" during the course of the post production process. It's a fairly good descriptor for this Speedhunters drifting art film. We've basically taken all our favourite slomo shots from the 2008 Formula drift season and compiled them into a montage style music video. As ever, the film features a custom score from Speedhunters London, UK based audio producer: Ekstrak . Enjoy the film! It's a good one...

Speedhunter Vaughn Gittin Jr. just sent us a small teaser photo of his new 2010 Mustang drift car that he will be driving next year. The teaser may not reveal a whole lot, but it won't be too much longer until the full car is revealed next week on live Speed TV ahead of the car's official debut at the LA Auto Show. To see the car on Speed, November 18 at 8pm PST/ 11pm EST will be the time to tune in . I think it's pretty cool that the drift version of the car will debut ahead of the street car and can't wait to see what the finished product looks like....

In the lead up to this month's Red Bull World Drifting Championship, we'd like to preview the cars and drivers that will be seen sliding around the Long Beach docks on November 15 and 16. For the first part we will be taking a quick look at Formula D drivers that will be appearing in the event. Even though the Red Bull event will include drivers from a number of international series, the Formula D representatives alone hail from all corners of the globe and their cars are very diverse....

Most of the members of Team Falken will tell you that 2008 was a pretty tough year for them. Mechanical gremlins and delayed race car builds certainly pushed their stamina limits over the course of the season. None the less, they continue to be one of the most popular teams in Formula Drift. Go to any Formula Drift meeting and you'll find that there's always a big crowd around Team Falken's pit area. There is a real reason for this in my opinion. These guys continually give to the sport of drifting like no other team does. They are a perfect reflection of the true ethos of drift culture....

Just a quick heads-up for our North American Speedhunters. Speed TV's coverage of Formula D debuts this weekend at 4pm EST Sunday afteroon. The hour long programme featuresRound 1 from Long Beach. The programme will be repeated during the week and a new episode will air the following Sunday, all the way through to Christmas. Meanwhile, if you're in Europe, keep your eye on Motors TV. They are currently showing the EDC finale in Poland and UK Time Attack. Next air-ing is on Wednesday. - Andy...

Some more photos for the Speedhunters readers interested in females... the girl gazing out the passenger window of the Need for Speed/Shelby Terlingua Mustang is Need for Speed model Michelle. Look out for more of her on future Speedhunters updates. Thanks to Dan Vanitcha for the great photo of her. I don't know what looks hotter... Taka's AE86 or Lisa and Eri holding the umbrellas... CJ Gibson... bangin! Falken was doing a video shoot for their SEMA video, and here's a behind the scenes...

Here are a few photos we captured of some of the girls at Formula D Irwindale... big thanks to fashion photographer Dan Vanitcha for his great photos of the Need for Speed girls! ! On top, we have Need for Speed model Joanna Aimee , having fun with the Need for Speed edition Shelby Mustang Terlingua . The NFS team from Vancouver collaborated with Shelby American to put this specially supercharged Mustang together and brought the car down to the Need for Speed Undercover booth at Formula D Irwindale...

More from Formula D Irwindale... here's a shot of the crowd in the fully packed grandstands at Irwindale. Just look at how many people are in the stands, not to mention the VIP suites above! The Formula D Finale was a big event! From the grid... Taka Aono prepares to do a burnout before his Top 16 run, as Falken race queen Eri Moriyama holds her teal and blue up in the air proudly... undaunted, she's apparently not afraid to stand next to cars burning out just a couple feet away! Oh yeah...

Everybody knows Tanner Foust won the Formula D Series Championship last weekend, so I'm not reporting anything new right now. I just wanted to post up some night time pics from Irwindale this past weekend. As night time rolled in, and everyone began shivering from the cold, Foust was still on fire. He was still running clean and consistent (as always), which is why he ended up earning enough points to take the overall victory. One of the closer battles of the evening was the one between Tanner...

Digging through my photos from the past weekend at Irwindale Speedway, I thought I'd put together another one of my lifestyle galleries, so Speedhunters readers who didn't get a chance to experience the event in person could get a feeling of what it was like to be there. My good friend Andy Sapp from Atlanta GA seems to love these lifestyle galleries, so I figure I'd put together these pics to keep him happy! In case the name Andy Sapp sounds familiar, then you've been paying attention...

Right now as I write this, Formula D practice and unseeded qualifying is happening over at Irwindale. I want to shoot some photos today, so I'll keep this kinda short, and follow it up later. Rod thought it would be cool for us to do retrospectives on Irwindale in honor of the Formula D Irwindale happening this weekend, but honestly, I've been shooting drifting at Irwindale for so long, I didn't even know where to start. Some of these photos, you may recognize from my hardcover book,...

The Apex'i and Bergenholtz Racing crew are super down for the cause. They're down to get down on the ground and work on their cars wherever they need to (they have to, because FD transmissions break more than Rocksteady on linoleum)... they'll do whatever it takes to make sure the car they're campaigning doesn't break by any fault of their own. The Bergenholtz Racing crew is passionate, determined and relentless. Which may be why they were such an unstoppable force in NHRA Sport...

Things are busy, busy here at Need for Speed central ATM... The main dev team is putting the finishing touches on the new Need for Speed Undercover game which has them EXTREMELY busy as you can imagine. The final 5% to finish a game can be pretty tough going. Over in our little Speedhunters corner of the studio, we are in our own little mini crunch too. We are now over half-way through Porsche month, and have a hell of a lot more special features to finish. Much work to do yet!
So I'm pleased to say that we have finally finished our first Porsche film for the month. We had originally planned to get on this this film sooner, but I thought it would make a better film to grab some more footage of the car at the Sears... err Infineon round of Formula D this past weekend. Always brings the quality level of a film up if you have more than 1 location to work with....

Yeah, that's right, I said it. It had to be said. I wasn't the only one who noticed it... just maybe the only one who outspoken enough to say what's really on my mind. As we watched the tandem battles in the Formula D Top 16 eliminations at Infineon Raceway this past weekend, the lead car brake checking the following car seemed like the new fad in Formula D - almost everyone was doing it. If you're not familiar with the term brake checking , it's when the lead car in a tandem...

I'm currently relaxing a bit in my Tsukuba city hotel room after meeting fellow Speedhunter Mike Garrett in person for the first time ever... It must be a bit of a modern affliction to meet friends for the first time you already partially know from the internet no?
Hey so I just noticed that Riceboytv finally posted their event review from Formula D Seattle. I have to say that their films are getting better and better with each release. The opening montage of this film is absolutely stunning.... wow! Always great to see true audio visual artistry being applied to drifting. Nice work Will Roegge!
Ok got to get to sleep here... off to film at an MSC drift event tomorrow :> Have to be up by 05:00.... ack...

Sometimes when I am filming drifting, I am distinctly aware there is a large piece of metal that is hurtling itself on the very edge-of-control directly towards me. Normally this is somewhat of a pleasant rush; there is a certain exhilaration that comes with being so close to the action. Occasionally though, I do get internal warning signals that it's time to move to a safer position with the camera. No need to take unnecessary risks for the sake of a good shot IMO. So imagine the feeling when...

Whew! I just got back from Las Vegas late last night! I'm sure some of you have been checking the site for the Formula D Las Vegas photos, and here they are! I decided to put up an action photos gallery, since that's what many of you are looking for first and foremost, right? On top, we have John Russakoff driving his light blue AE86, with Samuel Hubinette giving chase right behind him! Samuel's Viper always seems to be in tandem bouts against AE86s... Alex Pfeiffer (Formula D Atlanta...

When you're playing the Craps tables in Las Vegas, my good friend Brian Urbano always says " always bet on the 8 and 6. " That appears to be true also at drifting events in Las Vegas, because late last night, legendary AE86 driver Toshiki Yoshioka from Team Droo-P piloted his AE86 with its normally aspirated (nitrous assisted) blacktop 20 valve 4AG to beat everyone in the entire Formula D field!!! This was only his second time competing in a Formula D event - the first time was at Formula...

On the night I drove up to Las Vegas, I was watching the outside temperatures soar up to 118 degrees, and this was at around 10pm. At 4am that same night, it was still at 115 degrees. Super hot. Thankfully, it has cooled off just a bit, due to a thunderstorm which cooled off the track last night, and lightning that lit up the night sky like the LED and neon bulbs covering all the casinos on the Vegas Strip. While the weather may have cooled off just a bit, the action at Formula D's pre-event...
