Earlier this week we previewed the Formula D drivers that will be appearing in next weekend's Red Bull Drifting World Championship in Long Beach, and now its time for the second part where we'll take a look at the international drivers that are making the journey to California for the event. Although there were some conflicts in arranging D1GP drivers to appear ,there is still a wide variety of drivers from around the world that will be competing in the event and hopefully things will go better with D1 next year.
Anyways, on to the cars and drivers-...

They say that racing improves the breed, they also say that win on Sunday, sell on Monday. Both are clichés but contain more than a grain of truth. And that truth provides the motivation for the Driftworks Company to showcase the products available at their on line store. Of course having a bit of fun along the way also plays a part too, as Phil Morrison admitted to me. Driftworks was set up nearly 5 years ago and provides a top quality parts services to all levels of the drifting community...

With less than a month to go until the first ever Red Bull World Drift Championship in Long Beach, the identities of the international drivers on the roster is continuing to be finalized. The latest drivers to be announced are from the European Drift Championship and include '08 series champion Ben Broke Smith in his JZX81 Toyota Chaser as well as '08 runner-up Tim Marshall in his Chevy V8-powered R33 Skyline. Both of the cars have already left the UK on their voyage to California where they will be supported and hosted by HKS USA....

Another weekend and another drift series in the books for '08. The European Drift Championship wrapped up it's 2008 season this weekend with its final round at Poznan, Poland, the only event on this year's EDC schedule held in continental Europe. Driftworks driver Ben Broke Smith AKA "Bon Bon" held a strong lead in the points going into the event, and even a mediocre showing would have secured the series win for him. I found a few photos on the EDC official site and from all accounts it seems that this event was a fine way to cap off a notable year for the EDC....

It had to happen sooner or later.............I had to go along to a drift event in person and see what Rod and Antonio were talking about.
So I had a free weekend and the European Drift Championship was out for the final time in 2008, venue Silverstone....

It's time to finish up our week-long look at the cars of the various international drift series as we examine some of the cars from the European Drift Championship. Before working on Speedhunters, I had only a vague knowledge of the EDC, but I have been learning more and more about the series and its cars over the past few months and have been quite impressed with what I have seen. While you won't find quite the variety of cars that you see in the US Formula D series, the EDC has plenty of top quality cars and they seem to be getting better and better......

This weekend it was EDC time again as Europe's best drifters headed to Santa Pod Raceway in England for the fourth round of this year's series. Besides the all of the EDC regulars, the roster also included Team Orange's Nobushige Kumakubo and Kazuhiro Tanaka making an appearance in their second round of EDC competition after an impressive performance last month at Silverstone. In addition, this round also saw Adam Richardson, the former champion of the D1 New Zealand series making his EDC debut in his A31 Nissan Cefiro. The makeshift course at Santa Pod makes for an interesting contrast to some of the more traditional circuits that are seen on the EDC schedule and throughout the event there would be some very exciting action with the competitor's cars getting extremely close to each other during the tandem matches. Of course the event would not be without its casualties either, as you saw by Rod's post about Paz's AE86......

.... this is the result... ouch.... Perhaps we need to band together and start a "save the AE86s" campaign?.... This pains me to see, but probably pains the owner of this car "Paz" a hell of a lot more. Sorry to see this m8....

There is no doubt regarding the popularity of drifting these days and there's no shortage of websites devoted to providing photographic coverage of drift events from around the world. One of our most liked and respected sites in this field is Doristars.com, a site which has been providing high quality photos of the UK drift scene since 2001. Starting with the goal of providing a photographic history of drifting in the UK and expanding the following of the sport to a larger audience, Doristars now has nearly 10,000 photos in their collection. Doristars content that spans the course of seven years and includes everything from early UK grassroots events to the latest action in the EDC and elsewhere. While looking through the Doristars galleries, you can watch the history UK drifting unfold before your eyes......

This weekend will mark Team Orange's second visit to the European Drift Championship. This time around they'll be taking on some night drifting at Santa Pod. I'm sure they'll be very hungry to take the spoils this weekend!
For now let's look back at the drama that was their visit to Silverstone last month. Big props to our friends at Clash Production for this fine piece of video work.

If you haven't yet heard , last weekend's EDC round at Silverstone went down with all the excitement you would expect from a match-up featuring top drivers from both Europe and Japan battling against the backdrop of a legendary racing circuit. Nobushige Kumakubo and Kazuhiro Tanaka from Team Orange put up a strong showing in their first EDC event and Phil Morrison gave an awesome performance in his new S15, but in the end it was Brett Castle in his trusty S14 who defeated the "tsuiso...

Very well known across Europe, Sumo Power is one of the UK's best known shops catering to Japanese cars. Their Z33 350zed sports wild Do-Luck body work, but it's outfitted with extremely functional parts too! This is the same car they used in the D1GB events in the past, but minus all the decals! This pink Sumo Power 350Z is for sale by the way. Click here for details on the car. Sumo Power's headquarters are inside a huge Victorian-era building at Sheerness docks in Kent, UK! Inside...

The long awaited EDC round 3 at Silverstone is now in the books, and from all accounts it was a spectacular show. In the end, it was Brett Castle who narrowly defeated Nobushige Kumakubo to take the win during the final match. Congratulations must also go to Phil Morrison who was faced with the difficult task of battling Kumakubo with his brand new 2JZ-powered S15. After a hard fought battle, Phil lost to Kumakubo by just one point! We will have a more detailed report up very soon, but we just wanted...

Europe's best drifters (and a few of Japan's) have taken over the legendary Silverstone Circuit for the third round of the European Drift Championship. As we noted earlier, this event is featuring the debut of D1 stars and Team Orange members Nobushige Kumakubo and Kazuhiro Tanaka in EDC competition. In addition to the Japanese drivers, this event was also the debut of Phil Morrison's 2JZ -powered Driftworks S15. If you have seen any of the build photos from this car, you will see that...

This weekend is the much-anticpated third round of the European Drift Chamipionship which will feature the driving of Nobushige Kumakubo and Kazuhiro Tanaka from Team Orange. Being the vast operation they they are, Team Orange has separate vehicles which are used for overseas competition. Here are some photos of the cars as they were being loaded into containers in Japan a few weeks ago. With the lack of D1 events in the US this year, it's great to see the Japanese D1 stars keeping the "international...

Thanks to our friend Ed Fahey in the UK, we have some nice coverage from the second round of the European Drift Championship held last weekend at Knockhill Circuit. As expected, all of Europe's top drifters were there to battle it out on Knockhill's demanding corners. To be honest, I was not terribly familiar with the European drift scene before becoming a Speedhunter, but I have really taken a liking to it since then. Now for a quick look at some of the highlights at the event- The calm...

Walking around the pit area at England's Donington Park Circuit, I searched and searched for that one particular AE86. I had seen pictures of it on the internet. Painted red in some pictures, green in others. It had some aggressive looking RS Watanabe wheels... 9J width maybe? It was from Team Night Spirit, and it was nowhere to be found. I probably should have hit up the owner on Club4AG prior to our trip to the UK. Unfortunately I didnt - we were too pressed for time, and too busy making preparations...

This April, Rod and I were lucky enough to go to England for the first round of the European Drift Championship (EDC). It was awesome! After enjoying a spot of tea, I got to see firsthand what drifting was like in the UK. The lifestyle vibe, style of cars, and overall environment were very different from what I'm used to seeing in the United States and Japan, and yet, many things were very much the same. One commonality was the awesome camaraderie between drifters, their love for the cars, and...
