Earlier this week we previewed the Formula D drivers that will be appearing in next weekend's Red Bull Drifting World Championship in Long Beach, and now its time for the second part where we'll take a look at the international drivers that are making the journey to California for the event. Although there were some conflicts in arranging D1GP drivers to appear ,there is still a wide variety of drivers from around the world that will be competing in the event and hopefully things will go better with D1 next year. Anyways, on to the cars and drivers-...

In the lead up to this month's Red Bull World Drifting Championship, we'd like to preview the cars and drivers that will be seen sliding around the Long Beach docks on November 15 and 16. For the first part we will be taking a quick look at Formula D drivers that will be appearing in the event. Even though the Red Bull event will include drivers from a number of international series, the Formula D representatives alone hail from all corners of the globe and their cars are very diverse....

It's time to finish up our week-long look at the cars of the various international drift series as we examine some of the cars from the European Drift Championship. Before working on Speedhunters, I had only a vague knowledge of the EDC, but I have been learning more and more about the series and its cars over the past few months and have been quite impressed with what I have seen. While you won't find quite the variety of cars that you see in the US Formula D series, the EDC has plenty of top quality cars and they seem to be getting better and better......

The King Of Europe is a drift series that is being held on Europe's mainland. They have eight rounds in various countries like France, Hungary, Belgium and the Czech Republic making it a true European Championship. It is more like a grassroots event, without big teams and sponsored cars and it's quite different than the drift series that are being held in the UK. I'm still hoping that the EDC will come to continental Europe to host a true European Drift Championship. The major drawback in the King Of Europe for me is that not all the drivers attend all the rounds. But then again we must not forget that most of the drifters do this for a hobby and that they have normal day jobs......

The Pro Drift series from Ireland has begun to expand its territory, adding events across different parts of Europe. Even though it's being dominated by Irish drifters at the moment, new challenges from local drifters arise as the series moves from place to place. Pro Drift features some impressive machinery, ranging from Skyline's to BMW's and everything in between. Let's have a look at all the different cars that compete in the Prodrift Series in no particular order:...

Snakes, Kangaroos, Koalas, and drifting. The adventurous Aussies have a love of drifting that can rival any other country in the world and when it comes to Australian drifting, the Toyo Tires Drift Australia Series is where you will find the country's best drivers and most serious drift cars. For this post we will be taking a look at some of the notable cars that can be seen competing in the Drift Australia series. You will find that some of the cars in the series fall under the category of "traditional" Japanese style drift cars while others bring a unique Aussie approach to drift car style......

Yesterday we took a look at some of the cars seen in Japan's top level D1GP series but now it's time to take a look at the other side of the Japanese drift spectrum. the MSC Challenge series. Since MSC is a grassroots level series filled with privateer drivers, you have to look at the MSC cars from a different viewpoint than the pro level cars seen in D1. MSC events are held at all corners of Japan from Kyushu in the south to Hokkaido in the north, so few or no drivers compete in every event. Because of this, you also get a wide variety of cars depending on the region the event is being held in. I will try to show some of the more interesting and unique cars seen at MSC events as well as some of my personal favorites from the series......

By now you must have seen my fellow Speedhunter Mike Garrett's posting on " The Cars of the D1 Grand Prix ." I thought I'd continue this theme, with photos of the cars in the Formula Drift Championship series. Here are the Top 16 cars (in order, based on the rankings on the Formula D website) in Formula Drift, as well as some other cars that I just thought were interesting! Starting with car number one, we can't forget Tanner Foust and his AEM/Rockstar Z33 350Z (above). He won...

Over the course of this week will be doing a number of articles that showcase the cars of some of the various drift series around the world. It should give you a good idea of similarities and differences between some of the different series as well as some of the different takes on car builds. We will be showing both grassroots and pro level cars and we thought the Japanese D1GP series would be a great place to start......

As the time attack movement continues to spread around the world, we want to showcase some of the different series and the types of cars that can be found in them. What better place to start than in the UK where the Time Attack Championship is done on a greater scale than anything in the United States or even Japan, the so-called "birthplace" of time attack as a motorsport......

In our final 'cars of Le Man' post we look at the GT2 class with the help of Photos from our trackside Photographer, John Brooks. Although this class is at the rear of the field it is very competitive and almost any of the entries could take honours. GT2 cars are less powerful than GT1 (with around 450-500bhp) and are closer to production cars with their bodywork. Unlike GT1, Carbon brakes are not allowed. GT2 is a Ferrari v Porsche duel with a couple of Spykers trying to get into the act...

In the world of Le Mans, 'GT' means, race-cars, loosely based on production sportscars. We are going to look at the GT1 class in this piece, with GT2 class tomorrow. A GT1 car runs at 1125kg (Corvettes & Astons run 25kg heavier) with a maximum engine capacity of 8 Litres for Normally aspirated engines or 4 Litre for Turbo charged cars. Budgets at the top end have resulted in theses cars being close to the Prototypes, we covered yesterday. The GT1 class is generally an Aston Martin v Corvette...

The Le Mans 24 hours takes place this weekend in central France. In the first of three posts, we will go through the different cars of Le Mans, with the aid of the excellent photography of John Brooks. There are two styles of car at Le Mans, each with two classes. At the front of the grid are Le Mans Prototypes (LMP), followed by GT's which are loosely based on road cars. Le Mans Prototypes, explained in simple terms, are specifically built race cars for Endurance racing. Unlike the Corvette's...

The FIA GT Championship is by any other name the SuperCar Series. It is the arena where the most exotic car brands on the planet race against each other in machines derived directly from road going legends…..Ferrari, Aston Martin, Maserati, Porsche, Lamborghini, Corvette, Saleen to name but a few are the current protagonists. The Championship officially kicked off in 1997 but in reality it is the descendant of long distance sportscar racing that has taken place since the beginning of motorsport. The current evolution is that of 9 two-hour sprints plus the 24 Hours of Spa. This format requires that the drivers are mostly full time professionals and consequently the competition is fierce and the races close....

The DTM is a German based Touring Car Championship, currently featuring rear wheel driver 480bhp V8 powered Mercedes and Audi 'silhouette' racecars. Although its called a Touring Car Championship, in reality, its closer to F1 or ALMS/LMS with carbon chassis and huge budgets. Most rounds take place in Germany, but the series also visits Zandvoort (Holland), Brands Hatch (UK), Mugello (Italy) and Barcelona (I shouldnt need to tell you where that is!!!). As you can see, the most obvious feature...

Now that we have had a look at the Tokyo Nostalgic Car Show itself, let's take a look at some of the cars that could be found in the halls of the Tokyo Big Sight. After all, cars ARE the reason people go to car shows right? When it comes to the classic car scene in Japan, Nissan is king. Sure there are plenty of restored and modified cars from Toyota, Mazda, and others, but the their following is small compared with that of Nissan. Among the Nissan guys, the most popular models are the "Hakosuka"...

Our mission with Speedhunters is to show all types of automotive lifestyle around the world, and while we love the professional motorsports scene as much as anyone, we also want show things from a more grassroots level. I love to watch the "big guys" ,but sometimes It can be just as interesting to see what the "little guys" are up to. Today, I headed out to Tsukuba Circuit for the purpose of documenting a typical Japanese circuit day, and more specifically, the type of cars seen...

The British Touring Car Championship is one of my favourite series. As a Brit, I spent many cold and wet weekends at Thruxton, Silverstone and Brands Hatch watching this type of racing. The BTCC is back in ascendance and 2008 looks like being a great year for this series. The cars may look like the cars on the street, but underneath they are true race cars. The BTCC now runs to the FiA S2000 rules, which basically means 4-5 door cars running with engines no bigger than 2000cc. The engine can come...
