Today was super hectic! I've been working with some members of the Need For Speed marketing team on a special project for the Formula D Finale at Irwindale this weekend, in addition to my normal duties for Speedhunters. After a full day of editing photos and uploading pics at the office, I decided to head out to yet another meet with my good friends Calvin, Chris and Felix. Since I already showed you some pics from the weekly Tab Tuesday meet at Store 13 in West Covina, I thought I'd also...

Recently, my wife Lea and I just acquired a 2001 BMW E46 M3. This has been forever Lea’s dream car and I have always been a fond BMW fan. Back around 1999-2000 before I had FD’s, I owned an ’88 E30 M3 that I loved, truly a BMW motorsport classic. So we decided to give up our trusty S14 240sx that we had for over 6 years and move on to something a bit more mature and classy. Soon after we got the M3, I find out that there was going to be a local Hot Import Night Drift Demo in Pleasanton...

After a very eventful 3 days of drifting at Portland International Raceway for the Final Formula D Team Drift Competition of the year, Team Drifting Performance was able to pull off a 1st place finish. It was my first time to this amazing track. The course features very fast and technical corners. The judged portion of the track started with a long right hand triple apex sweeper into a 90-degree left and finished with a tight right hairpin. Very fun track. I was not able to bring my RX-7 to this...

Round 4 of the 2008 Formula D Championship was held in a huge parking lot course at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Now when most people think of a parking lot course, you picture a big, safe wide open lot with a bunch of cones everywhere and nothing to hit. However, when Formula D sets up a parking lot course, they try to make the course as fast, treacherous and exciting as possible . They even made the entry look dangerous, as they had the k-walls narrowing your path which funnels you into the first...

On the night I drove up to Las Vegas, I was watching the outside temperatures soar up to 118 degrees, and this was at around 10pm. At 4am that same night, it was still at 115 degrees. Super hot. Thankfully, it has cooled off just a bit, due to a thunderstorm which cooled off the track last night, and lightning that lit up the night sky like the LED and neon bulbs covering all the casinos on the Vegas Strip. While the weather may have cooled off just a bit, the action at Formula D's pre-event...

This last Formula D Round was held at a new competition track at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park's roadcourse, in Englishtown, New Jersey. It was my first time I have ever been on that track, but it instantly became my new favorite Formula D track. I love drifting on technical road courses that have fast accelerating, first corner entries and that was exactly what this course was. The course started with a long straighaway, which requires 3 rd or 4 th gear entries into a long, left-hand sweeper...

For this blog entry, I am going to give you guys a little intro about myself, show you some of my past cars I have driven and tell you how I got into this whole drifting craziness. I was born and raised in San Francisco, Ca. Being up in the “Bay Area,” there was only a select few that knew about drifting early on during the mid 90’s. I was always fond of Japanese car tuning and I read a lot of Japanese car magazines and Option videos on a regular basis. That is how I first found...

As I write this, it's super late at night; we're all tired and sunburnt from yet another long day at the racetrack, shooting images and video of Formula D New Jersey, at Englishtown Raceway. I'm sitting in the lobby of our hotel in New Jersey, using the hotel's wireless internet to upload photos to the site, while the rest of the Formula D people - staff, drivers, judges, etc are all sitting around with me, watching the LA Lakers play the Boston Celtics. Since I don't really care...

Formula Drift has a couple of forms of competition drifting events that they throw. The main championship series in the US, international competitions and demos, and a Team Drifting Competition that piggybacks the former Champ Car, now IRL Grand Prix’s. For this 2008 season, I formed a team called Team Drifting Performance that will compete in the 2 team drift competition that is scheduled for this year. Besides from competing in team drift competitions, we also perform drift demonstrations...

On the night before the Motoring J Style show in Northern California, my friend Tobin and I drove from Los Angeles to Calvin Wan's house in San Francisco. When we arrived at Calvin's house around 3:00am, we were surprised when we saw the garage lights on, and Calvin greeted us at the garage door, wearing dirty mechanic's gloves and his signature SF hat. He was preparing to ship a rotary engine out to his engine builder, but first he had to play the role of a carpenter, and build a wooden...

Formula Drift at Road Atlanta is a bit different than the other events in the series. You can definitely feel the difference when you're there. From the look and feel of Road Atlanta's unpaved parking lot (people have to park in the dirt or in the grass, so don't bring your limited Nike Dunks to Road A!), to Road Atlanta's version of Formula D grandstands (a steep dirt hillside), you can tell that the horseshoe section of Road Atlanta used for drifting is more of a track for drivers...

I won't be listing the Formula D points standing on this page. Look elsewhere for that. This page, I'm dedicating to random photos of the cars and the action at Formula D Atlanta. If you're looking for points scores, ladders, and play by play photos, you need to go to another website for that. If you are more interested in dramatic photos that capture the essence of Formula D, this series is for you. Enjoy! Above, Michihiro Takatori from Kansai drift team Heaven and his mechanic prepare...
