Speedhunters Awards 2011>> Retro Machine Of The Year

As you can probably see, our awards season is now well and truly underway. This is the first time where I've had the chance to become actively involved with the awards process. This time last year, I was too busy pulling my hair out creating the prototype art book. Having had the chance to look through the categories so far, it never ceases to amaze me the breadth of car culture we bring together here on Speedhunters. The nominations for Retro Car of the Year reflect this quite well I think. From street cars to race cars, concours to cat and from modified to stock – the Retro Car of the Year will surely divide opinions. For the first time, Hot Rods, Muscle Cars and Customs will have their own seperate category. Mike will be along with those polls shortly. For now, I'm going to risk damaging my brain cell whilst trying to decide what to vote for below …

Broadspeed Escort MKI

If you haven't read the feature, Colin Ginn's Ford Saxon deserves to win....

2

The fact that you have a usdm Corolla in japan is a good indication of how much influence this car had on its owner. Grassroots,Stance, functionality, performance and simplicity are the key.

3

Seriously... hardest selection to choose from among all the award categories.

4

C's Garage KE!

5

never been so sure about my vote as now...car peace ae86 ftw

6

I would love to give Houston some love with that v8 Corolla, but that Nissan truck captured my heart. Loved that build.

8

I love Mike Bradley's Escort.

4doorsmoarwhors

9

Are you serioulsy asking which one of these great cars are our favourite?

Each and every single one of them deserve to win in their own right!

Choosing would just be worng... like picking a favourite child.

10

How often do you see an SR20DET powered 620?...Way cool!

11

As a Le Mans fan I picked Porsche 961.

12

Fire wagon!!!!

13

fire wagon got my vote, thing was too fkn cool

14

Volvo powered corolla should have been here !

15

I chose the Mike Bradley's YB Ford Escort MKII cuz its the only one in action :)

But i changed my mind when i saw that SR 620 ...

16

ARGH so hard to choose!!! I can't!! Well I think I will go with the Carina Fire wagon but the Escorts, the AE, The S30s so hard!

17

hard choice between star road and the Hakosuk.

18

C's Corolla! (RIP)

19

Can you stop calling Matthew Johnson's Holden Premier an RB30? While technically yes, but it is an RB26/30, which sounds FAR more impressive, and if many people haven't (which they haven't) read the feature on it, they wouldn't know that.

I first saw the car at MotorEx earlier this year, and it is such a great piece of engineering. Give it the credit it deserves, as here in Australia, RB30s are worth around 10 cents. Label it as a 26/30.

21

touring e30 looks very smart tbh

22

Hands down, my first pick. BMW 2oo2 Wins.

24

hard between teh hakosuka and s30, but went with the fatlace

25

Star Road S30!

26

I saw the star road and just stopped looking

27

The Ford Saxton for sure! Colin made that car with one picture for a reference. He's very talented and he deserves this award.

28

The Rothmans Porsche 961 looks way to awesome not to vote for it.

29

diificult decision.

30

Very, very tough choice!!

31

This is ACTUALLY the hardest one there is.

32

THAT'S WHAT I CALL A HARD JOICE!

34

no competition.. got to be the KPGC10!!

35

Has to be the Saxon, such an amazing piece of work. very tempted for the star road Z though

36

hesitated between the J-tech golf on compomotives, loved the article on it too but the more that low 260z has the best stance IN THE WORLD so it has to get my vote.

37

Can I vote on more than one please.

38

That skyline will always have my heart, end of story

39

at first I thought this would have been a easy choice, but bwoy was I wrong as I scrolled down further. I still havent made up my mind yet as I type this. damn, the pressure!! lol

40

gotta be that e30

41

was a very hard pick nice cars damn..

42

stuck between Garcia's V8 AE86 and Mark Arcenal's Hakosuka : (

43

Christ that was hard...

44

fire wagon represent

45

totally that hakosuka....greatest looking car

46

C's for the muh fu'n win. it's the only car you see getting flogged flat-out in most of it's pics. 2nd goes to the Broadspeed car :)

47

2002 with the S14.

48

Car Peace AE86! That AE86 is a masterpiece. Lovely engine bay, give him props for keeping the 4ag setup and just added on (esp those high rise headers). Also being a USDM car in Japan, I just find it great to see something different.

49

anyone who didn't vote for the Manta needs to buy Dirt 3

50

S30 Fairlady Z!!!!!!!!!!!!

51

The Ford Saxon, a UNIQUE piece that deserves to win !

52

Están todos increibles pero me quedo con esta belleza... me encantaria tener uno así!!!

53

I was about to vote for the Carina Fire Wagon, as I knew about it since a couple of years ago and I liked it ever since... but when I saw the Star Road S30... man, I literally said "Ohhoh, sh*t...!".

That Fairlady Z is just PERFECT.

54

961 without doubt.

55

Come on guys.

No one for the 961?

Do you know the story behind that car?

56

"If you haven't read the feature, Colin Ginn's Ford Saxon deserves to win...."

This ^ ... Pure amazing.

57

That Ray Chau's BMW 2002 is the brainchild to everything else in the running on this page. Style, plus sport performance and heritage of being a pathfinder to the culture.

58

has ta be the hakosuka for me

59

If anything but the Rothmans Porsche 961 wins, there's no hope left for humanity.

61

That 914 is retro coool!

62

Holden for sure.

63

Without doubt Colin's Saxon. The amount and quality of work that went into her is just second to none. Also, guys, you don't have to vote for a car just because it's jdm.

64

Mk1, no contest. My favourite feature.

65

The Saxon is head and shoulders above the other cars. He built it from a photograph!

66

914 is sweet

67

Turns out I may be a bigger retro car fan than I realised as all of these are awesome. Toughest choice so far. Broadspeed Escort just pipped it for me though!

68

Love the Broadspeed Escy.

69

I really liked that fire wagon, 'cause for me, it's truly has that "sleeper" charm...

70

Colin's Saxon, by a long shot.

71

Ray Chau's BMW 2002 FTW!!!!

72

2002 was my pick, but the last MK2 Golf and the MK1 GTi Golf were not far behind.

73

1UZFE AE86... So clean inside and out

74

1 vote for Touring Style E30 from Gatebil

75

Saw the cortina saxon in the flesh at the Ford Dunton centeray celebrations this year was truly stunning, love the broadspeed also but the Mk2 YB ticks all the boxes for me, not a fan of any of the foreign stuff at all

76

Ford saxon hands down. By far one of the most unique cars in the world and an amazing job of creating it from the few photos that exist of the original. If it doesn't win I will be disappointed.

77

though choice btwn. Skyline and AE 86.....but with Retro style, who doesn't like skyline.....

78

This is a hard line-up again! But my choice is Track Culture AE86 of course! It is just simple and nice!!!

79

Mike Bradley's poor door ,purely because he's promised to be in a gay porn movie if he wins

80

http://vimeo.com/22184858 0:22-0:26

Maybe that helps you decide

81

the ford saxon by a mile.

82

Looks the bees knees ...

83

Hard to choose. The Mark's Skyline is beautiful but i chose the Golf GTi. So Stock, so nice. :)

84

EASY VOTE FOR ME..

MIKE'S YB FORD

POPEYE..

85

lovely spec.a wolf in sheeps clothing

86

best of luck mike your car the nuts

87

Just because he drives it like he stole it!

88

the saxon is not the retro car ( just because it looks old, does not make it RETRO), It should be in custom car of the year. It is one mans interpretation of pictures of a one off concept car . Custom not retro.

89

boxxers drift bittch all the way

90

Beautiful cars.....all. Wish I could vote for the top five and I would still be stuck!

91

Jeff Zwart's Porsche 914-6 wins it here for me.

some of the cars here aren't exactly what I define as retro. A AE86 stuffed with a V8 is fabulous, but not retro for me ;)

92

its got to be the Saxon if you see this car in the flesh as i did at santa pod you would be amazed the classic car feature this month is IMO the best they have ever done .

93

I voted for Mike's car and he said he would take me for a cruize down the lanes late at night... I can't wait.

94

MANTA MANTA!!!!!!!!

95

proper sleeper

96

For me it came down to the Saxon vs. Arcenal's Hokusuka. BUT. The Saxon is by far one of the best creations I've ever seen.

97

Gotta be an escort going sideways with a cossie in it !

98

SAXON by far its deff a retro car don't think you could call it a custom car LOL good luck mate .

99

escort drifting good enough for me

100

Me 2 the Saxon ,in my op is the build of the year it might not be everyones thing but you got 2 admire what what done from one picture and in a year hats off 2 him .

101

I hope the fat lace skyline doesn't win that car is just on rims!!!!!

102

SAXON SEE THIS CAR AT FORD FAIR ONE WORD AMAZING .

103

Saxon nothing else comes close .

104

cool blue fairlady !!!

106

Saxon gets my vote. Is the only one in the world.

107

Saxon voted for. Only one in the world.

108

Without any doubt, its the Saxon! Shame the pic here comes no where near close to doing the car justice

109

for the the Cortina Saxon deserves to win, I saw it in this months classic ford, what an amazing car and job the guy done just from a photograph.

Plus its a 1 off and unique car

110

this car is amazing and the owner and creator is a really nice guy as well 10/10

111

the SAXON is 100% and the guy that built it aint to bad either

112

961 dnf'd at le mans because the driver missed a shift , had a crash and then tried to drive it back to the pits while the car was on fire

113

Again, too many awesome cars!!! I'll vote for the more than low 260Z even though I'm not a big fan of the CCW's on it. Looks like one of few non-shop built cars in this category

114

Just read the feature in CF great build it gets my vote Saxon.

115

The Saxon gets my vote a classic one of a kind

116

saxon cortina is so far ahead of any car in this award.show me another one

117

Have you submitted your vote for all the categories in our 2011 Speedhunters Awards? The voting for all car categories will end tomorrow, December 23rd at 10:00am Pacific so we can begin to prepare the nominees for 2011's Car of the Year award. That

118

Saxon ! Saxon ! Saxon ! ... To actually make a car not mod it make it .. blink- blink -

If you do one thing this next year- join Buysellcortina- If only to look at project ( Saxon ) By COLLIN RNK

119

Fire wagon all day!!!

120

Some seriously nice cars here.....

121

Star Road S30 Fairlady Z is a winner , F...ing love it!

122

I love the simplicity of white ae86. Nowadays, we seldom can see such cars on the street.

123

Hakosukaaaaa!

124

bit sad looking at this on xmas day looks like im to late to vote but 4 me it would also be the Saxon great build .
