Turbo RS: A Porsche 991 Like No Other

A humble man in Norway is the owner of a very unique Porsche 911.

The car rolled off the assembly line as a 991 Turbo S, but after a 12-month transformation that included custom work by Porsche, it’s been unofficially reimagined as a ‘Turbo RS’ with 680hp (and counting) to boot.

At a quick glance the car looks like a GT2 RS, but look closer and you start to see that all is not as it first seems. The front bumper, hood and side skirts are all GT2 RS parts, but they’ve been modified to fit the Turbo S model perfectly, with fully functional air intakes and outlets at the front. It wasn’t an easy job, but Porsche made it work.

Around the back, the owner opted not for the GT2 RS wing, but a slightly less elevated 991.2 GT3 RS item.

After Porsche had weaved their magic, the car was brought back from Germany and left in the capable hands of a Norwegian tuner that took it to a whole new level in the performance department.

The original plan was to use the GT2 RS wheels for the car, but there was an issue that ultimately meant this idea was scrapped. This is where Vossen stepped in and built a one-off set of GNS-1 wheels – 21×9.5-inch front and 21×12.5-inch rear – finished in matte gunmetal.

Lift the rear deck lid and you’ll find the same twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat six found in the GT2 RS, albeit with modified intakes and turbos to bring around 680hp and 850Nm to the party. With TechArt chassis options also in the mix and the substantial rubber on the road, this all-wheel drive machine puts it down to the ground with ease.

You might be wondering why the owner didn’t save himself a whole lot of trouble and just buy a GT2 RS to begin with, but the answer to that is simple: you can’t fit your kids in the back when you’ve only got two seats. This custom creation solves that issue, while the AWD makes it Norway-friendly for wintertime use.

It’s also a pretty nice addition to a collection that includes an Audi RS2 and a Ford Escort RS Cosworth.

As impressive as this car might be, the owner isn’t finished yet. He’s currently working with a renowned Swedish Supra tuner to bring his ‘Turbo RS’ up to 900hp with a revised turbo system and nitrous oxide. Maybe we should take another look soon…

Tofu.

How about a feature on the Ford?

That would be awesome! Can try to make that happen

And the RS2. ;)

This car will fall into obscurity and those wheels are hideous

more then you can afford pal.

8

Can you afford this car?

question for people who buy stuff like this or brabus g wagons and rationalize the additional seating capacity with "because kidz yo"

do you use the power these vehicles put out while your kids are literally inside the car? What would be the issue with doing what most people do and separate duties amongst different vehicles? Not trying to sound condescending or Karen-esqe, just genuinely curious as to the rationalization of a 700hp car needing to have backseats because "kids"

10

Of course the logical option is to have a sports car and a family car but who wouldn’t like the idea of just driving their sports car daily in most situations. There’s a variety of reasons outside of seating which makes it far from ideal, but kudos if the owner if this car actual uses it for this dual purpose.

11

I don't have something so expensive or special as this, but my hobby car does have a backseat, and it does carry my children often. I enjoy sharing that part of my life with my kids, so I can appreciate why someone would do this versus GT2 RS plus some other car for hauling kids.

It comes down to two questions for me: do you drive it? does it make you happy?

12

because why not?

13

Idiots with too much money and no idea what to spend it on

14

I can't say I'd mind being dropped off at school in that car.

15

So its a 991 GT2 RS engine - that's been tuned "with modified intakes and turbos, and a Do88 intercooler..." - that makes less power than a stock GT2 RS. Can someone explain to me how that works?

16

probably a Turbo S engine and not a GT2 RS, since it's a souped up Turbo S. Can be bumped up to over 800 hp with just modified stock turbos.

Does the author even know what he wrote? Words matter.

The Speedhunter editor did something weird with that paragraph (and some of the other facts in this article, including gt3rs wing) . That was not how i explained it hehe.

20

Now im even more confused... lol I must have completely skimmed over that sentence but it doesn't make sense to me. I mean the block is probably from the same casting but the internals and accessories are different between the turbo S and GT2 RS. It also didnt make sense that the numbers were lower so i just assumed that it was a tuned turbo S motor.

This entire article is confusing! the car is beautiful and the pictures are very excellently composed but the words just make no sense. (see my comment about the panel swap below)

Can we get a SpeedHunters editor in here to clear this all up?

The GT2 has larger turbos because the car is made for high top speed. Larger turbos means it opens up in the higher rpms. This car has smaller turbos that makes good torque down low. That is why this car has less power than the GT2RS, but 100nm more than the GT2RS. More suitable for daily use.

22

2 pedals make baby jesus cry

23

The wing is from a GT3, not a GT3 RS.

WOW.

Can anyone explain this any better? What is so different about the metal underneath that makes such a panel swap so complicated? it seems like it is just the two ducts on the hood that would require any special modification to work.

Also, the front fenders have been changed too, the turbo S doesn't have fender vents.

Far away. Way more complex!
To get the correct airflow down the hood you have to change a lot of parts and pretty much rebuild everything in the front. You have to change radiators, ac hoses and electronics so you dont get fault codes. The GT2RS front and front fenders is wider than the Turbo which means you need new brackets. Also new wheelhouse. The air intake-part in the front (just below the hood) is a big "windtunnel" and had to be rebuilt. And the radiator has to lean a little bit, which it does not do in the original turbo. This is a lot more complex than it might seem, and i tried to explain it to you. Sorry, im not a mechanic so some of the terms may be off. This info was provided by the owner.

28

first off thanks for the reply!

While that does sound like a lot of work, it still sounds like a parts swap which is something that most car enthusiasts know about. Kind of like how people used to swap golf and jetta front ends back in the day. It could very well require minor modification to the metal work underneath but that's what i was wondering, if anyone with a turbo S had access to all the GT2 RS parts could they swap the front end with out having to cut any metal?

Anyways it was more of a curiosity as ive been around a fair amount of modified Porsche's and ive seen a fair share of claims that are a bit more grandiose than what they actually were. For me i just wanted to know if the bare shell of the GT2 was the same as all of the other 911's.

29

I was wondering the same. I think it's more likely just hyperbole from the author

30

That's not a gt3rs wing. It's a gt3 wing.

Author31
Håkon L. Sataøen

I know, thats what i wrote but the Speedhunters editor changed it to Gt3rs for some reason

32

This is an amazing GT2 RS build
One of my dream Porsches

33

It's not a GT2, it's a modified Turbo S.

34

But either way it's a pretty cool build

35

He has both the GT2 and Cosworth?!?!?!?!
That's a dream two car garage!!!!

Author36
Håkon L. Sataøen

Indeed! He has other special cars too!

37

I would like to drive a Porsche one day to see what the hype is all about.

38
Jay Soh Tsu Chung

Wow... that last picture looks like a render. Unreal!

39

That front bumper has got to be one of the uglier things Porsche has ever done to the 911.

40

Ok it' a cool car and all, but can the SH team please fact check the article please... I(we?)'d hate for inaccurate narratives to ruin a car like this.

Author41
Håkon L. Sataøen

The editor changed some of the facts i provided. Most importantly, this is a regular Turbo, not the Turbo S. Which may be the reason behind the "low" power increase considering it originally had 540hp.

Author42
Håkon L. Sataøen

Great car, but honestly that view on the "engine" when you open the rear lid is depressing!
