If there’s one thing that can unite all the various sub-cultures of the automotive world, it has to be freedom.
That is, the freedom that cars give us to go pretty much anywhere at anytime that pleases us. There is simply no equal. Planes are too expensive, and you can’t escape the elements on a bike or in a boat, well, that one is pretty obvious. That freedom to sit in the driver’s seat, point the steering wheel in any direction and just keep going until you run out of road is one of the last great freedoms that we have as people.
But what happens when the road ends?
That question is answered in Rotiform’s latest film, which showcases the wheel maker’s new SIX-OR (spell it, don’t say it) wheel. It’s a film which documents a typical weekend for Tacoma drivers Sean Jennings and Corey Longstreth as they make a break from civilisation and into the wild.
As an outsider looking in, it’s the sort of adventure I can only dream about.
The wilderness and off-roading is maybe the last great adventure for the automotive enthusiast. If I’m being honest, the whole off-road truck thing didn’t really capture me at first, but I now know that I was looking at it from the wrong angle.
I only ever saw these type of trucks on the streets of Los Angeles and Orlando, where they didn’t make any sense; cities and streets aren’t where these belong. An urban setting isn’t their natural habitat, much like an IndyCar would be a bit silly to bring on a grocery run.
These are created to go somewhere that they probably shouldn’t go, and then turn around and come back home again in one piece.
There are no traffic laws out here. There are no speed limits; no police hiding in the bushes waiting to penalise you for something trivial. It’s pure, unadulterated, freedom. Where else exists that can come even come close to this? Even the derestricted sections of autobahn have their rules.
It’s such an appealing way of life, that ability just to be able to get away from it all and do whatever the hell you want. To just go and get lost and not worry about it. You can be on your own or with friends, it doesn’t really matter because the end result is the same.
Sure, it might not be for everyone but it is something that you have to at least try. Unless you’re scared, that is. The attraction of getting lost like this, and how it can expand your view on everything in this world is not to be underestimated.
After all, at this point you should know to never say no to adventure.

How about some more articles/photo shoots on some early 70s/80's mini trucks, lifted or Low? Toyota 4x4s, datsun 620 & 720 for example.

Not much of a product demonstration and the voice over was cornier than an ethanol refinery - stunna wheel companies best shot I guess - also ygdr there is police out in the wilderness, especially in CA - checking weapons and oh boy the new thing is if you have been drinking anything and you at camp with your keys in your pocket, not even driving, or sitting in or near a car - DUI beyotch!!!!
CA sucks. Im in NM and its awesome. super loose laws. You can drive a cat-less truck through the desert shooting a full auto out the window with beer cans in the bed and no license for driving or weapons.
offroading in CA "sucks" because people like you took crap too far and blew it for the rest. The blame rests squarely in the lap of offroaders that turned Ocotillo, Palm Desert, Desert Hot Springs, Algodonis and Glamis into freaking trash dumps and junkyards. Offroaders that think drunk-driving a quad 70mph across open desert without lights and not stopping after running over 3 people in their tents is "fun"....yeah, you've done enough in Ca. Go ruin another desert.
Hint: drinking, driving and shooting = fun until that one moment.....
Someone is grumpy, but I can relate. I'm in Utah, and we see a lot of that going on in our mountains and random areas far out. There are always those people that ruin things for the rest of us, no matter what hobby.

I wanna do some 'mini-overland' stuff. Those roads looks pretty good compared to what I've seen in utah. I actually have a Previa that I was modifying for this kind of stuff. It's an All Trac model that I lifted 2" and put some all terrain tires on. I'm about ready.
Makes me want to put my Jeep back together...

Too bad about the TE37 knockoffs tho. Rotiform should have a tag line "inspired by Volk Racing".
Volk did not invent the 6-spoke wheel, and not every one is a goddamn knockoff. If you want to go that route, Volk knocked off Jackson off-road wheels that we had on our '73 Ford Courier in '76. And they knocked them off from someone in the 50s/60s.
Some of you haters can only think of one thing: shitting all over other people because you are too ignorant to know better.
Post a picture of said Jackson off road wheel that supposedly inspired the TE37 if you're so much more enlightened to the history of wheel design so the rest of us peasants can understand.

This ain't glamping. There's a place at Bear Lake Utah that has old chuck wagons that have been remodeled into rooms with sleeping for 4 people. They have normal beds, hardwood floors, and lights. That's glamping.
