The long wait is over – Sydney Motorsport Park’s gates are open, the track is hot, and records will be broken.
Drivers and builders from around the world have arrived at the 2016 Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge to test themselves and their machines.
Conditions couldn’t be any better either; perfect weather for racing is forecast to help teams to achieve their #OnePerfectLap.
Competitors in all classes are are so closely matched this year that not one person I spoke to this morning was willing to pick who’d be leaving with top honours.
While it may look calm from the outside to the thousands of fans in the paddock, a quick walk through pit lane tells a completely different story. Teams were nervously double- and tripled-checking every aspect of their cars this morning before the first sessions. While some seemed to have all boxes checked, other scrambled to fix those last minute issues that can destroy a year’s work instantly in the heat of battle.
Before the day is out we’ll have a good indication of who to expect on the podium, and by what margin records will be smashed. Excitement is guaranteed.
