Ken Block’s (In-Car) Gymkhana Experience

As the next best thing to being in the passenger seat, you really can’t beat a decent in-car video. And thanks to new camera technologies the high definition vision coming out of race car cockpits is constantly on the up – take Drive‘s laps with Tommy Milner in the Corvette Racing C7.R as he practised at night for the 24 Hours of Daytona for instance, or Subaru’s ride-along with Mark Higgins as he re-wrote his own record on the perilous Isle of Man road course last month in a new Impreza WRX STI.

We’ve seen a number of first-person-perspective clips from Ken Block over the past few years, but I’m really digging the latest one from his very recent Monster Energy Gymkhana Experience event in Japan. There are no multiple takes here, it’s just pure unadulterated Hooniganism as Ken puts his 600hp+ Ford Fiesta HFHV (Hybrid Function Hoon Vehicle) to good use, sliding it around a carpark course in the city of Nagoya. As always with videos like this, it’s best played in 1080P, fullscreen, with the volume wound all the way up…

Nice post.  Finally a nice full onboard vid!

Looking forward to future posts on World Rallycross (hint: Solberg's 6 lap attack please!)

Neat to see another perspective... From the outside, it looks like he just hucks the car into corners, but from the inside you can see that he's actually really smooth with steering inputs.

Now see THAT is how all in car videos should be.
