One of the great pleasures in my life is the sound of a naturally aspirated MkII Escort, on wide open throttle, reverberating around the countryside as it descends upon whatever wet ditch I may be lying in. I was raised on rallying. Vatanen, Röhrl, McRae, Sainz and Makinen are my heroes. My interest in other forms of motorsport was secondary to my love of rallying. As much as I admire and appreciate Formula One, rallying is for me; the purest form of motorsport. Man, machine and road.
It’s also one of the most accessible forms of motorsport for any budding photographers. More often than not, spectator areas provide the best point of view; the drivers are easy to get to at the beginning/end of stages, and service areas allow anyone to get within touching distance of these amazing machines.
For this month’s special theme, we want to see your rally and rally inspired photographs. It can be a broadsided Escort or a sublime homologated street car. The decision is yours.
If you want to take part in this theme, you’ll need to do the following:
- E-mail your submissions to iamthespeedhunter@speedhunters.com with the exact subject line of ‘The Rally Theme’.
- Tell us your name, location and a little bit about the photograph.
- Attach the image directly to the email but ensure the image is no larger than 1000px on the longest side and a minimum of 800PX.
- Make sure the image is free of any distracting watermarks. Don’t worry, we will make sure you are properly credited.
- Closing date for submissions is November 10th 2013.
This will probably be the last low resolution theme, so make your entries count.

DO – Tell us your name!
DO – Submit your best work, regardless of when it was taken
DO – Take your time shooting and consider each detail
DO – Try to submit each image no larger than 2000PX wide
DON’T – Put a huge watermark on it. We’ll make sure you’re credited
DON’T – Send us huge image files that kill our e-mail system
DON’T – Send us scary ZIP or RAR files. We won’t open them
