Last week, we had a little (or actually a huge) discussion about the greatest car movies of all time. Now that you guys have had a chance to share your thoughts on the matter, we figured it was only right to put together a proper poll to answer the question for once and for all. We’ve gone through and picked 20 of the most commonly suggested films from last week’s post and assembled them below into a straightforward poll. All you have to do is go through it and choose the best. Make your vote and be heard!
Furthermore, if there are any movies on the list that you haven’t seen before, now could be the right time to do so.

I can't believe Initial D came on 2nd! i mean the whole drifting industry, the new 86/BRZ (and subsequent "lightweight" trend in the auto industry)
Running on empty....were is it? This is an actual about cars movie! Not a movie with cars in it like ronin or mad max, not starting a war but it seems a proper car movie is missing out.
I don't think the people that are voting have seen all these movies, because you cannot compare the quality of Grand Prix or Le Mans with F&F.
How is fast and the furious winning? I don't even consider them car movies, they're just action movies with more than the average amount of cars in them
Herbie The Love Bug should be up there, it had the Monte Carlo Rally come on!
For TV shows, Knight Rider and Dukes of Hazard could get mentions!
Seriously wheres Cannonball Run ? Is it gonna be Fast and Furious by a landslide, really? You owe me a ten second car.
I guess they did not meant the original fast and furious from 1955...
Anyway, I gave my vote for Mad Max, but there was many good movies as well, like Vanishing Point, Bullit, etc.
Oh, did they meant the original version of Vanishing point, or the remake? Both are good but in other sense of course :)
If Ronin and The Italian Job are classified as "car movies", where are the Transporter movies? And where's "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry"?
I gotta go with Fast and Furious franchise. TNT had a marathon on last night. It was fun to watch, and then you get comic relief on 2 fast 2 furious. It was so bad it was comical. Thank God for Justin Lin for putting the franchise back on course. A little sad "Senna" didn't make the list. People who haven't seem it--GO SEE "SEENA." It will blow your mind on an amazing race car driver.
I would bet that the voting results are driven more by the age of the respondents than anything else. Fast & Furious was a fun, mindless movie, but films like Le Mans and Grand Prix do a far greater justice to the events and lifestyles they document. Of course, I am also at least twice the age of most of the people here, so I am sure that has a bit to do with it as well... But hey, being a car guy, I just enjoy the culture as a whole.
Wot, no Overdrift? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2IWxqvsSY8
I'd say, if movie quality is what this list is about, F&F shouldn't be mentioned. But, and follow me on this one, F&F put on a mainstream screen JDM cars that no one had ever seen before, and more than some of us, mainly europeans, were introduced to JDM machines such as the RX7 thanks to that movie. So I think that, in the sense of inspiration and not for the quality of the movie itself, F&F should be on the list, not winning, but it should be there. For me and for many others I'm sure, that movie was the reason that let to the discovery of JDM cars and tuning companies.
While some of these are great choices in "automotive" movies, as far as the car being the star, there are just a few movies that qualify (mostly in horror genre), but that said, I go against what i just said and voted Vanishing Point (sorry, I have two love affairs with my personal cars, a MINI Cooper and a Challenger). While Le Mans, Grand Prix, Bullitt, Gone..., etc are great movies centered around cars (and race cars) its the race or the chase that is the star.
LOL - The anger towards people's choice of films is pretty funny. BTW: Does anyone else find the connection between FnF and Point Break? It's the same script, except for cars instead of surfing.
For the purists, I would agree that the only "car movies" on the list would be LeMans, Grand Prix, and possibly two lane blacktop. I would agree with these people that Ronin, Gone in 60 Seconds, American Graffiti and the Italian Job... these are not car movies, but they were movies that made us feel some emotions because of the car scenes in the movie.
I would add that "Love the Beast" is definitely a car movie... Eric barely mentions his family, or his film career, except in an explanation why he wasn't working on his Falcon, or driving it.
My vote was still for LeMans. I think McQueen only has 10 lines in the whole movie, and the exhaust notes of Ferrari versus Porsche was the only sound track needed.
I have seen 90 % of the movies on this list.
And that is what is most likely needed to make a proper choice... also someone's age will bias how they vote.
(The answer is still Mad Max).
Most of the voters in this poll probably don't even have a drivers license, or at least are very young. Hence the success of the FF franchise. Days of Thunder is still the best, no matter how it ranks here.
And Ronin is not a car movie. It's not about cars at all or I have a dementia as I recall it was about gangsters.
@AjArmas The clueless and aimless members of Generation Y and Z strongly identify with Paul Keanu Walker as their every-man. To us adults, he's just another half-wit.
@Hemi killer it was also fake!-OG gone in 60 all the way. all cars all the time, real roads, real people, and no CGI -awesome!!
@Wildcardfox I wouldn't say Senna is a car movie, more a biopic/documentary about the man, not a movie about cars.
@Wildcardfox Seena was a great movie. Saw it a few years ago at a small theater. Why they did not add it, I do not know.
@Bcblackman bullsh*t ***hole! No one likes the tuna here!
@GregSampson a certain website I will not name is probably funneling people here to vote for that movie and troll this sights readers.
@Bcblackman Actually, I was a big fan of the black Toyota 4x4 truck Marty got to drive. It was so sick!! Even as a kid, watching that movie made me love Toyota trucks
@Kirk_B actually there is only one strict car movie on this list. Disney Cars.
@Kirk_B Agreed that some films with a good car scene (or two), have been classed as "car films". Car films should only be those where the story is car based!
agreed. How the hell did the remake beat the original?? over an hour car chase with no cgi vs a 10 min car chase. BS.
@Bradders well I disagree because there are other movies posted that are about a story of people that are in the car world. Like Days of Thunder. Thus, since Senna was about a man and his life in F1 racing, I think it should be included.
@Luigi666 true story Talladega Nights > Days of Thunder. I'm pissed that Stroker Ace wasn't included, the Clyde Torkel Chicken Pit Special is one of the hottest cars ever to grace the silver screen. That's to say nothing of those adorable pit crew kids that helped Kenny Rogers win the day in the classic stock car movie Six Pack?
