While we are all anxiously awaiting the debut of the next generation Subaru WRX, Subaru is continuing to improve the current model with the release of a new special edition model for the Japanese market. Known as the WRX STI tS Type RA, the new version has just become available to order at Subaru dealers in Japan.
The primary goal for the new model is to improve its dynamic capabilities by adding a number of changes to the STI’s chassis and suspension.
Among the tweaks to the car are a quicker steering rack with an 11:1 ratio…
… and a new set of Brembo monoblock brakes up front with six-pot calipers and grooved rotors.
The STI tS Type RA also gets a completely tweaked suspension with tuned dampers and coil springs, new arms and a flexible tower bar up front.
Additionally there will also be an NBR Challenge version of the car that will include additional improvements, including a pair of special Recaro seats…
… and a set of 18″x8.5 forged BBS wheels coated in black.
Those who want one of these ultimate STIs will have to act quickly as production will be limited to just 300 units total, with sales to stop before the end of the year.
Oh I think I will be watching the parts list on japanparts.com for that quick rack. I was thinking of a Q-Rack for my build but if the official version costs less, perhaps I'll go with that. I wish I could have the steering of the BRZ in my STi but I know that won't happen with steam roller tires and hydraulic PS heh
why does the US get excluded from all the awesome performance models? even the focus RS a few years ago wasn't available in the USA.
How many people can remember the name of that car? They really should shorten it... Going to have Alfa Romeo names eventually.
Any word on power figures for this one or does it retain the standard STI figure? Looks good in orange mind but I agree, the spoiler looks a bit...flimsy...
What a cool version of it, wish us in the US had the opportunity to purchase this compared to the orange sema edition. But that's another battle. Dream drive feature maybe??
finally, a fast rack. STI owners have been using a rack w/ the same ratio as a beetle! now there wont be any more EVO steering envy. haha.
Im so jealous of every single WRX and Sti owner. Yall have what I consider a pretty much perfect car. AWD, Japanese boxer power, a five door variant, and one of the loveliest shades of blue in all finishdom.
So if you buy the special version of this special edition car, you'd have to tell people that you have a Subaru WRX STi tS Type RA NBR Challenge...
i don't even
@tbtstt consider alcon bbk from jdl-brakes.com. Have bought recently and I'm very happy. Compared to oe sti brakes - night and day.
@robzor USA gets alot of stuff the rest of the world doesn't.
@mk4 lew remove it. more than likely, most owners will de-badge the car as well.
@mk4 lew I love how their is a few car companies with Nürburgring editions of cars, for example the 2012 Lexus LF-A Nürburgring Package, but I bet they are not gonna save it when it gets closed hahaha.
@ChrisPassey At a guess it will be like every other STI variant or edition. Unchanged driveline just handling, braking and chassis upgrades/tweaks.
@CrisCiunganu Yeah - right? I was all stoked on my STi Brembos - now this? freak.
@Frozzy BMW M3 E92 GTS
@robzor @FunctionFirst @DaodeYeh I don't really like any of those cars just an example. I wonder if a company will try again to do what Motorex did, and import and modify them to comply with the safety regs, but import cars which are not actually stolen? Or do you think because of the Motorex case, it would make them think twice about allowing it again?
@FunctionFirst @Daode Yeah, I would trade them all as well, but his point is just that it goes both ways.
@Daode I get the Taurus sho, zl1, gt500, m5 manual(very surprising to me that it's us who get the manual), the srt8 and the viper. Good point. But the trucks? Would anyone buy them? The biggest truck I ever saw in my year in Europe was a Mitsubishi raider.
Ford Taurus SHO, Chrysler Ram Runner, Chevy Camaro ZL1, Ford Mustang GT500, BMW M5 Manual (europe only gets flappy paddle version), Dodge Charger/Challenger SRT8, Ford Raptor, SRT Viper. I'm sure their is more I can't think of.
