Although it was once a home-field battleground between Ford and Holden, the Australian V8 Supercar series is quickly becoming an international endeavor. Besides the recent additions of Mercedes-Benz and Nissan to the series, Volvo has just announced that it will enter competition in 2014 with its Polestar Racing operation running the Volvo S60. To commemorate the announcement, Volvo has also released this video showing some of the brand’s historic touring car memories and also a glimpse at the future.
How can you not like the idea of a Swedish V8 Supercar?
Love that Volvo has joined the battle ...v8 Supercars is the ultimate touring car series. Would really like to see Hyundai join the crowd and bring the Genesis R Spec to the series( rumors :) ) it would be CLUTCH!!
Since the latest Polestar prototype, I'm waiting for some more....... But a V8 powered Volvo in the Aussie competition, that's very interesting! Good to know that Volvo is, yet again, in motorsport competition (in 2014).
didn't they announce a 'hot' version of the s60 a few months back exclusively for Aussieland?
this was my exact thought when they announced that...
Didn't they say that V8s were old fashioned or something like that only a few weeks ago?
It'll be good though.
Now if only they had to homologate...
I still miss the days where they brought cars from the factory, drove them to the track and raced them. these day I find the cars just a little too simular. I love the ute racing still, that's proper entertainment.
I think this series is just going to keep growing! it is some exciting news to hear that other manufacturers may be join in the future as well! Pure awesomeness! this is a series i could really get into!
Where are all the whinging bogans that flew off the handle when they announced COTF originally? I'd love to rub their noses in it but I'm sure they've forgotten all about it..
As a die hard Aussie racing fan, the change to 'The car of the future' platform has been a absolute winner! Nissan and Mercedes joining was great, Volvo now official and BMW and Chrysler in talks the V8 supercars will be entertaining indeed! With all the talk of Ford of stopping production in 2016, this'll be the best opportunity for more to get into the mix. There's even been a word around that Mazda could be joining by 2016! Fun times!
I never really had an issue with the 'Ford vs. Holden only' concept in the V8 Supercars, as I found the driver/team battles entertaining enough as it was. But, with the introduction of Nissan and Erebus/Mercedes-Benz, and now Volvo, I think the series is going to be even better, with more variation and a much more global focus. Change is good.
@Driveitlikeyoustoleit Mazda? Now they never did a V8 at all ^^ is there any word out yet if Polestar uses the old XC90 V8 or the crate LSX?
@KietaPhillips Rumor has it that a American daytona series team want to enter a rebadged VF commodore as a Chevy SS, and there's talk of a second American round, so we will find out!
@KiwiMotoring I hope to see more on the American tracks next year.
@Driveitlikeyoustoleit ok, just found an article stating that it will be a 5.0 version if the Volvo-Yamaha V8
@Acc Mazda will probably use a truck derived V8 from the American market, like Nissan with the de-stroked patrol V8
@KietaPhillips Your welcome mate, I know it's speculation at the moment but I've had a quick look around and Laguna Seca keeps coming up, maybe a califonia round after Texas?
