#iamthespeedhunter: The Composition Theme

The rule of thirds. The golden ratio. Leading lines. Point of view. Framing. Many terms which all correspond to possibly the most important aspect of photography – composition. The art of composing a photograph is what separates us all as photographers. It’s the perfect device to illustrate how differently we can all see the same scene.

Composition is the difference between a good photograph and a great one. You might be able to nail exposure, colour, aperture and shutter speed but it won’t matter a damn unless you know how to frame it and put it all together.

This is probably the most open theme we’ve run so far, but it’s also going to be the toughest. I want to see your ability to frame a photograph. I want you to show me how you can make a boring subject look interesting, just because you know how to shoot it.

If you want to take part in this theme, you’ll need to do the following:

  • E-mail your submissions to iamthespeedhunter@dev.speedhunters.com with the exact subject line of ‘The Composition Theme’.
  • Tell us your name, location and a little bit about the photograph.
  • Attach the image directly to the e-mail but ensure the image is no larger than 1000PX on the longest side.
  • Make sure the image is free of any distracting watermarks. Don’t worry, we will make sure you are properly credited.
  • Closing date for submissions is Friday May 24th.
Happy and safe shooting everyone!
