If you’re a regular reader of Speedhunters, you will probably be aware that, although small in both size and population, New Zealand has a huge automotive scene. Most of us grew up around car enthusiasts in some form or another and as a lot of you will be huddling together for warmth in colder parts [...]
Two years ago I used to dream about bringing home one of those very special Formula Drift carbon fiber trophies. Not only would it be the ultimate dream come true for any competition drift driver, but more importantly it would be the ultimate testament to all the family, friends and sponsors that have helped out [...]
As we make our way through the final days of the year 2012, it’s time for the final #FeatureThis reader’s ride shoutout of the year. There’s a little bit of everything this week, from classic projects to brand new machines, and even a JDM dump truck. Here they are! (Above) Sunnyside Racing in Chiba Japan [...]
Without doubt, this was pretty much the most difficult thing I’ve ever had the misfortune of doing as a Speedhunter. When we kicked off the #IAMTHESPEEDHUNTER program earlier in the year, submissions were few and far between and quality was generally lacking. However, as the weeks rolled on the numbers picked up but the quality absolutely exploded. Trying to narrow down the thousands of awesome submissions to just fifteen has been quite taxing. If you haven’t made it, don’t be disheartened. You were probably closer to being nominated than you’ll ever know, it was that close. Chins up and keep shooting. For now, here are the nominations…
Most of the videos we share on these very pages, usually involve copious amounts of horsepower being unleashed in a variety of ways. However, seeing as it is that time of year again, we’ve been touched by the general niceness of this video. Put together by students at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Germany. This short film proved so popular with Mercedes themselves, that they’re airing it in every cinema in Stuttgart.
Here we are with round two of the inaugural Photo of the Year award. Each Speedhunter has submitted five of his favourite images of 2012. It’s up to you to choose your favourite image by each photographer, so you will be voting more than once. Remember that you’re voting on the photography, rather than the subject. The [...]

For all the photography connoisseur out there, this is the one you have been waiting for – the inaugural Speedhunters Photo of the Year award. This award is for the photographs taken by the Speedhunters for Speedhunters. This is quite a vast category so we need your help to narrow down the selection until we arrive at our ten final photographs.
We’ve kept this as straightforward as possible where each Speedhunter has submitted five of his favourite images of 2012. It’s up to you to choose your favourite image by each photographer, so you will be voting more than once. Remember that you’re voting on the photography, rather than the subject. The Speedhunters themselves will be presented in alphabetical (by surname) order, with the first five in this post and the last five in round two. Let’s get this under way shall we…
Pure and clean, old school styles, high on drag or low on ride, we now journey back in time to the early ’70s and beyond in search of the ultimate classics and the award for Oldtimer Car Of The Year. The Singer 911 SoCal is becoming a hotbed for 911 builds, particularly strong in old [...]
Picking my defining moment of 2012 is easy. As a long time Speedhunters reader, getting the call up to join the team as New Zealand Editor is something I’m not ever likely to forget. Although I’ve only been contributing for nine months, in that short amount of time so many doors have been opened for [...]
As Speedhunters, the digital SLR camera is surely one of the most important tools of our trade. Without those big camera bodies and even bigger lenses, Speedhunters would probably not exist. Equally crucial though is the smart phone. Whether it’s communicating by email while traveling, checking up on comment discussions, or updating our social media [...]
Putting the speed in Speedhunters, our motorsport coverage in 2012 was as varied as ever. The nominations for this award have been compiled by taking the top ten most popular motorsport events (based on the largest volumes of web traffic through our doors) and adding in five wildcards which we believed were worthy of nomination. The nominations are …
Here is the video all you time attack fans have been waiting for, Under Suzuki’s record braking attempt seen through the eyes of Luke Huxham. There is very little point for me to elaborate on this further, just hit play, select full screen, turn the volume right up and let Suzuki-san show you how it’s done!
One man. Three legends. You don’t get many opportunities to sit down with a six-time winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours alongside two of the cars he drove to victory. Then again, it would be a similar privilege to sit down with a winner of the Paris-Dakar. Or a man with eight Formula 1 [...]
Next up in our awards voting – Show of the Year. Now “car show” is a fairly ambiguous term, but for the purpose of the 2012 Speedhunters Awards we are defining shows as the large scale indoor events for the automotive, motorsports, classic, aftermarket industries as well as national level modified and custom car scenes. [...]
