As another month draws to a close it’s once again time to round up the month’s feature cars for our weekly reader poll. Race car or street car, new car or old car – it’s time for you guys to pick your favorite featured machine from the month of September. Here they are. Jon Sibal’s [...]
Somewhere in my attic is a box full of years’ worth of promotional brochures from the London Motor Show, collected over a number of visits where I would avidly hoover up every available piece of literature on the latest models that would be gracing the roads of the world. After a long break, I saw [...]
I’m often asked what I like most about being a Speedhunter. There are many answers to that question, but naturally it’s the constant exposure to cars that comes to mind first. My colleagues and I spend most of our waking moments (and many of our sleeping ones) thinking about cars. We never stop thinking about photographing them, driving them, building them, or writing about them. On top of that, what I like most is that we aren’t locked into one particular genre or style of car.
Like a lot of things in Japan, VIP style probably makes little or no sense to the causal observer. But much like the unique culture of the country from which it originates from, bippu style is hardly for everyone. It has no real benefit when applied to a car; it doesn’t improve its performance, its handling [...]
The reworked World GT1 Championship is coming to an early close, with the final two rounds brought forward to September and to European tracks, replacing the previously scheduled fly-aways. The WRT Belgian AUdi Club Team’s Audis have been fighting for victories to keep themselves in contention with the Mercedes, BMW and McLaren opposition: almost every team has a car still in contention for a good result with just the final races at Donington in the UK this weekend to decide the title.
Their latest short clip takes a slow-mo look at the top-speed and high-pressure world of GT1 from the Nürburgring. The Vita4One BMW ten have headed free-practice at Donington: keep up with the championship-deciding races at GT1World.com.
I’m going to start off this spotlight-o-rama from the Roadster & Rotary meeting with a car I think most will agree Mazda should have built. Why the 13B never officially made an appearance in the NA or NB chassis is beyond most people; I can understand that they wanted to keep RX-7 line up well [...]
Inspiration; it’s a word we all use and understand, but I believe we seldom realize just how strongly it impacts our lives. No matter what it is we’re going through we draw inspiration from past experiences which inevitably define our future. In the world of cars inspiration is the common bond we as enthusiasts have [...]
This week brings us another fine selection of machines from the global Speedhunters community. In addition to the submissions coming through the #FeatureThis email inbox, we’ve also been getting plenty of action on the #FeatureThis social media operation – such as the aggressive Mazda Roadster seen above. Enjoy! (Above) Mazda Miata, @DODOlogic from Instagram Honda [...]
It’s time to finish off our coverage from the 2012 Brisbane Jamboree, an event that for many memorable moments will be stuck in my mind for a long time to come. Getting to witness – at eyebrow frying range – just how far the Australian four, six and rotary drag racing scene has progressed since [...]
Sendai Hi-land is the track that Nissan chose to develop the R35 GT-R on. This isn’t at all surprising as it’s one of the most challenging and technical circuits in Japan, throwing a variety of corners, elevation changes and chassis-testing sections into the mix. It’s also an awesome track to shoot at, which is precisely [...]
Sometimes you just want watch some grassroots drifting. No artistic soundtrack or camera trickery – just crazy people in crazy cars doing crazy things.
This video from the 2012 Drift Survival event in Hokkaido, Japan has it all – huge tandem trains, fearless entries, screaming AE86s, and even a pickup truck.
. While the popularity of sport compact drag racing has appeared to have lost its shine in other parts of the world, it was more than clear looking around the pits at the 2012 Brisbane Jamboree (aka J22). The Australian scene is bucking the trend. The Land Down Under has enjoyed a strong sport compact [...]
One of the car’s I’m most looking forward to seeing at the Paris Motor Show is the latest rallycar to come from the French lion: the 208 Type R5. After a long break, the 208 will succeed the 307 WRC Peugeot’s off-road weapon, starting off in the Group A and S2000 categories. Highlighting the classic [...]
I have been following Charles Ng ever since I met him at Formula Drift Pro-am back in 2009. He was drifting in a mostly stock, SR20-powered S13 and he was killing it on the notoriously hard Irwindale Speedway banking. Little did I know that he was already a seasoned driver in the Asian Touring Car [...]
Great roads and a great car. There are few things better. Here’s our friend Mark Riccioni with an epic tale of a road trip across Europe in a hotted up Subaru WRX. Enjoy!

Very rarely are cars actually driven as a manufacturer intended. By that I don’t mean the track enthusiast who spends every weekend hammering his 3-series around the Nurburgring, I mean the multitude of sports cars which spend their lives huddled around city streets – roaming motorways on the daily grind with not a whisper past 4000rpm.
I say that based on my own experience – having previously owned RX7s, GT-Rs and an Evo 10 I can (shamefully) say not a single car hit the circuit. Sure I’d give ‘em the beans now and then, but nothing worthy of testing the car’s full ability. Does that make me less of a Speedhunter? A lot of you will probably say yes, but that’s the harsh reality for the majority of sports cars (and owners) out there, regardless of their excuse.
