AASBØ GETTING READY FOR TRAX: LEARNING THE GAME

AASBØ GETTING READY FOR TRAX: LEARNING THE GAME

This summer has been flat out crazy. Ever since seemingly getting the 86-X ready just in time for Gatebil, we have been hard at work. In Norway, the 86-X needed plenty of TLC after I basically tore the whole thing apart at our first outing. In the US, we have been fighting technical gremlins with [...]

It also means that you guys are now faced with the difficult task of selecting your favorite feature of the month.

THE DMAC86 PREPARES FOR BATTLE AT TRAX

THE DMAC86 PREPARES FOR BATTLE AT TRAX

Hey fellow Speedhunters! After the madness that was Gatebil, it would have been nice to have had some time to recover, but as usual here at MCNSPORT we’ve been flat out! The D-Mac86 has taken priority in the shop in order to get it ready for competition at the imminent Trax festival at the famous [...]

THE MAGIC OF MONDELLO PARK

THE MAGIC OF MONDELLO PARK

Your local racing circuit is a special place, yet one that is often overlooked – unless you happen to live next door to the Nordschleife. I guess it’s a case of the grass always being greener on the other side, but rarely do we give enough credit to our home circuits. I’ve shot more events at Mondello Park than I care to remember, and as such have pretty much taken the place for granted. With all the doom and gloom – financially speaking – surrounding the world of motorsport these days, it has made me looking at things differently and forced me to appreciate things more. Rather than taking Mondello for granted, I want to show you why it’s one of my favourite racing circuits anywhere in the world.

BONNEVILLE TO NZ: THE AMERICAN DELIVERY

BONNEVILLE TO NZ: THE AMERICAN DELIVERY

Now I’m not quite sure how big this program is in other parts of the world, but here in North America many European manufacturers offer a “European Delivery” option for new car buyers. Instead of picking up a car straight off the lot, or waiting for it to arrive on the truck, you can special order your vehicle and then fly to Europe to tour the factory and take delivery of your new machine right then and there. After that, the new car owners are able to experience a great European vacation behind the wheel of their new car – sightseeing, driving the Autobahn, visiting the Nurburgring and so forth.

THE DRIFT TRUCK

THE DRIFT TRUCK

One of the underlying factors that shined through at Gatebil was that everything revolves around having lots of fun. Some obviously take it more seriously than others, maybe invest more time and funds into their cars, but you can bet every single car there has had a whole lot of passion poured into it. And [...]

THE OUTSIDER. HAKOSUKA GTR IN EUROPE…

THE OUTSIDER. HAKOSUKA GTR IN EUROPE…

When did you first become aware of Japanese culture? It’s a serious question and one that I’ve asked myself, hence passing it on to you. If you’re Japanese or based in Japan, then excuse this line of questioning although I’d hope the resultant answers will be of interest. I was grown in a land of Ford [...]

A LATE NIGHT IN STOCKHOLM WITH A CARBON R8

A LATE NIGHT IN STOCKHOLM WITH A CARBON R8

It’s difficult to imagine life without the Internet, and while it may seem to be deteriorating society in some regards, I’d say on the whole it’s made the world a better place. Outside the fact that my job at Speedhunters revolves entirely around the web, there are often times when I find myself doing all [...]

THE FUTURE OF THE GT-R

THE FUTURE OF THE GT-R

Want to make yourself feel old? Consider this fact. We are coming up quickly on five years since the R35 GT-R hit the market. With that in mind, there’s been a lot of speculation over what the future of the GT-R holds. At one point, there was even question over whether there would even be a follow-up to the current GT-R. This week Inside Line published a story with some info on the current state of GT-R development. Word is the current car will continue along with a significant update in 2013/14 , and then be followed by up an all new model for 2018.

2018 is still a long way off so there’s few details on what the next GT-R will bring to the table. What would you like to see from Nissan’s performance flagship? The same twin turbo V6? Twin turbo V8? Hybrid? Something completely different?

RETRO RIDES HIGH AT PRESCOTT

RETRO RIDES HIGH AT PRESCOTT

There are some events that you can attend where you just know it’s going to be a great day even before you even arrive. The UK’s Retro Rides Gathering, held again this year at the beautiful Prescott Speed Hill Climb, was one of those days. I find it’s all to do with location and the [...]

THE MONOTURBO

THE MONOTURBO

We often forget that one, if not the most important, aspects of motorsports is the development of new technologies. Pretty much every last bit of gadgetry, innovation and evolution that has been applied to your everyday road car has in some form or another trickled down from its original use in motorsports. From turbocharging and [...]

ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES: S & COMPANY

Sometimes feeling confused is a good thing. Let me elaborate; for us Speedhunters feeling a little disoriented at events or shops means we are usually surrounded by a lot of goodness, goodness that plays havoc with our brain making it hard for us to decide where exactly where we should begin our coverage. This is [...]

VIDEO: A CLOSE CALL AT EBISU

The Mustang crash at FD Pro Am in Las Vegas wasn’t the only scary drifting accident over the weekend. Over in Japan at Ebisu Circuit during D1GP round five, Manabu Orido put his V8-powered Toyota 86 into the tire wall in another big drifting crash. Now the crash itself isn’t near as frightening as the flipping Mustang, but what’s amazing is how close the car gets to the trackside cameraman. Mere inches it seems!

Thanks to quick reflexes no one was hurt, but certainly a scary moment indeed.
