VIDEO ROLL>> FORMULA D LONG BEACH 2007

http://www.youtube.com/v/5RiA3uXdgq4

With the 2012 Formula Drift Season only 48 hours away from kicking off on the streets of Long Beach, we thought it’d be fun to hop in the time machine and travel backwards five years.

This video clip from Drifting.com was shot at the 2007 event and it’s amazing to see the difference that half a decade has made as far as the cars and driving go. It’s not only the competition that’s evolved, but the media coverage as well. This was one of the only halfway decent video clips I could find from this event – a stark comparison to the live coverage and dozens of Formula D films we see today.

Take a look and see which familiar cars and drivers you can spot.

omg, nearly came when I heard Taka's Hasselgren spin up

it would be great to read an article about what has happened to these cars and where are they now. Some may be still drifting, some is scrap

I guess that's why everyone looks way slower then nowadays...Miss the old school days but the driving and speeds are at a higher standard nowadays!

Ha Ha! Something tells me that bright green FC wasn't running with it' original engine.

o the good ol' day of US driftin indeed...missin the all those car, 'specially the Drift Speed S15 and the 'R...

V8s are more competitive they said. V8s are the way of the future, they said. Oh god, why. Taka Aono N/A hasselgren! what a boss.

i love the less v8 saturated crowd and the a'pexi rx7

So nice to hear engines other than V8's in formula drift. The Falken '86 was fantastic.

ahhh.. the good old days of Formula Drift where drifting was appropriately showcased.
