Car Feature>> How Big Is Your Spoiler?

Imai-san at Bee Racing noticed I was drooling over the shiny blue S15 Silvia sitting in the middle of his workshop during my last visit there. It’s not every day that you come across a car like this, a project that someone has obviously poured a lot of time and effort into. If you sum up the sheer investment that has gone into sourcing some of the best parts out there, it wouldn’t surprise as much as what the car is worth on the second hand market. Turns out the owner has just sold this Silvia for well under what you might pay a brand new FT86 for example, less than what the bone stock S15 Spec R that it’s based on originally sold for. Whoever bought this got a true bargain, not only for the performance it can unleash…

NIssan s15 Silvia with a small spoiler

…but for, how shall I put it, its originality. Imai-san explains that the tiny dry-carbon rear spoiler was done as a joke…

extremely small spoiler

…the owner either not a fan of massive GT-wings that are so popular these days, or very much into RC cars? Who knows! This micro-spoiler cost about $700 to have custom made and despite its mysterious meaning it does serve as an example of the attention to detail whoever built this car obviously had. The carbon treatment…

…continues on the inside, with custom made and molded door cards.

The whole cabin and surrounding trim was stripped down to allow the chassis to be spot welded for added stiffness. A few coats of metallic blue followed before the dashboard and selected components were reinstalled into the interior.

More carbon was used for the center console and switch panel, and to save weight the A/C was removed. The big shift lever operates the HKS 6-speed sequential transmission.

No A/C means the three dash-top air outlets became redundant, making for the perfect location to flush-fit some Defi gauges.

The stock A-pillar mounted boost gauge was replaced with a more precise Defi unit.

Carbon fiber seat

Imai-san points out another little curious component fitted for “fun,” a carbon go-kart seat made by the guys at First Molding. Maybe the owner wanted his passengers to suffer!

The rear seats, along with all the side and roof trim were removed, leaving only a nice and clean carbon panel closing off the access to the trunk.

The car’s exterior sports a full aero package, considerably widening all the fenders.

9J wide, 18-inch Work Meister S1s are fitted at each corner, running 235/40R18 Potenza RE11s at the front and slightly bigger 245/40R18 Federal SS595 at the rear. Braking is handled by the Endless calipers, 6-pots up front and 4-pots out back. The anodized blue isn’t the only thing matching the body color…

…there is something under the carbon hood that sports a similar hue.

Powering this S15 is a hand built Tomei Powered Genesis SR225G, stroked to 2,138 cc and fitted with pretty much all the parts out of the Tomei catalogue, including a specially ported and polished head as well as upgraded valvegear. This engine retails for a smidgen under $20,000!

Sitting next to it is an HKS GT2835 turbine, able to supply all the boost the very special SR would ever need.

Imai-san was unsure of the actual power figure but there is usually more than 500 HP to play with on a set up like this. Check out the metallic bronze the engine bay has been painted in. Incredible attention to detail.

Both the top and lower sections of the big HKS intercooler get increased airflow thanks to all the extra openings that were cut onto the bumper.

Nissan S15 Silvia custom fuel system

The custom fuel system is neatly laid out in the trunk which, like the rest of the car, has been stripped out and given the once over with the paint gun.

Nice selection of stickers.

The new owner must be pretty ecstatic having gotten his hands on such a superbly built machine. The question is, will the tiny GT spoiler remain, or will it get replaced by something a little better suited?

Most of the carbon fiber parts shown in those pictures are WET carbon fiber. The shiny-glossy finish is the resin (mixed with hardening) on top of the carbon cloth.

In DRY carbon fiber the epoxy is "pre-preg" showing a dull finish, NOT a glossy finish like WET carbon.

2

That's one expensive joke!!

3

The stupid things this guy wasted his money on could have easily built me a very nice car. BTW that car is downright hideous.

4

DO WANT SO BAD!!

5

haha hideous? interesting opinion. and dry carbon can have a clearcoat to make it shiny.

6

@Kimo Stop hating and start lovin!

8

Hahah seriously, someone should've already joked on GT wing fashion like this. Its 10/10. :D

The car overall is built with much attention.. Like it.

9

wow. that spoiler is amazing!!!

10

It ruins the car, despite how funny it looks.

12

Nice S15, I seen an S14 sporting a similar spolier at Tokyo Drift in Odaiba a few years back : http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa251/WallaceGlanza/CIMG7800.jpg

13

That spoiler is funny, but i have to agree, it does ruin the car.

14

Am I the only one that has beef with the tail lights? Great build, but still, the tail lights... C'mon now.

15

for me the spoiler ruins the look of the car, leaving it wingless would have made it much nicer i think, also the rear lights need changing :)

16

OMG that spoiler is HUGE!

17

No wonder it was so cheap. That thing has no interior!

18

I would replace the seat, but the tiny spoiler is hilarious and would definitely stay. This is like the sexiest S15 ever.

19

lol i saw this article and then carried on scrolling down and then i saw the GLOBAL TIME ATTACK @ INFINEON RACEWAY with Chris's Scion!!!!

20

Sorry, there's just nothing I really care for on this car except the engine.

21

This car is a joke. Go get a car enthusiast that can finance your money. Your shit has no stance at all . And its barely performance

22

Ugliest S15 in recent memory.

23

It was probably that cheap because noone wants a car with a spoiler like that :). Even as a joke it looks plain stupid. Especially on an otherwise very nice car

24

most rank car i have ever seen on here! makes me ill just to look at it, owner needs shot in the left nut

25

FAIL @ Originality, I mean you spend 20k to put a god like motor in a beautiful car and this is the outcome?

26

I never thought I would ask for a bigger wing...

The rest of the car looks very well made, either way. That Tomei SR22 must sound sick!

27

I love how most people that browse this site tend to just look at the pictures and not read the post. It clearly stated that the spoiler was done as a joke. Awesome car but the euros should be tinted or gone

28

Rad. I'm feelin this. Epic build and I'm lovin the comedy! Someone got hooked up with a mega deal! Why can't I ever come up like that?!

29

I know you shouldn't judge what other people put on their cars, but this is just wasting money on stupid crap...

30

=) The biggest aerodynamics coeff.. =)

31

he did it for the lulz

32

LOL the spoiler

33

A missed opportunity to make something special.

34

maybe the looks like ass but goes like stink is the look the owner was going for? that spoiler has to attract plenty of attention... then when u get spanked by it on the road.. my favorite thing about the car anyway is the engine build and the interior.. i have to agree with everyone else about the looks but i bet this car is a blast to drive. i feel bad for the passenger tho!!

35

car is great, but this wing destroys the look :(

36

I literally laughed out loud when I saw the spoiler. The owner must have really hated big spoilers to actually spend $700 to get one made. I can get over a hundred hot dogs with that money!!

37

@JDMized And what if it has a million coats of clear :)?

38

Tezuka's BNR32 ;D

39

I want motor!

40

That is wild!.....and the winner with the smallest GT wing on a car goes to...

Love that blue color.

41

Everybody is probably whining about the spoiler and tail lights, because they know that's the only thing they would see when they come across this car on the road.

42

He should enlarge the spoiler

43

That tiny spoiler and the ricer taillights kill the car for me.

44

wings mount on pedestals,

spoilers do not

45

Car looks mean i like it and that wing is jokes, its something that should be put on for car shows and that aha

46

@Nismo Your on the wrong site for stance bro sorry. I think you and your comments should head over to stance nation and I can haz stance bro illest fitment bro.com Clearly you think stance and fitment is preformance? did you not the the tomei crate motor? im trying not to waste my breath here but its people exactly like you that are RUINING the scene period. Beat it and get lost.

47

JDMized...Resin used in dry carbon construction, pre-preg or not (there are countless different types, and growing all the time as composite technologies evolve) can be made so that it can be polished to a glossy finish, just like you would the clear coat on a painted surface after it has been sanded down to remove imperfections, scratches, swirls and so on. The main difference between wet and dry is that dry is vacuum sealed and pressure cooked in an autoclave. This is the proper way to make carbon fiber. Wet is usually just esthetic, i.e. has no load baring structure. I remember having a conversation with a Pagani engineer about this, and all the different types of carbon fiber when Rod and I visited them back in 2009. Quite insightful. Maybe you can read all about it on the internet, I'm sure there are lots of sites out there that explain the different construction methods. Google is your friend;)

Or as Michael said...it can also be sprayed with clear :)

48

I'm sorry but this is so fucking stupid.

49

Why is this car getting so much hate? The only thing I see wrong with it are those Altezza taillamps. Everything else is top notch.

As for the stance, this car is made to run. This isn't some prissy, stanced-out, hard-parking show queen. Leave that to the Subaru and Honda boys.

50

I'm not a fan of the rear lights, either. The spoiler is funny, but I'd take it off asap. Other than that, this car is perfect. The wheels and their sizing, the colors, the engine, the whole interior is amazing. I also like the passenger seat; it's a nice, unique touch.

51

He did it to make all the stupid kids on speedhunters cry about it. It worked!

Hilarious!

52

Such an awesome car. I don't get all of the comment section hate over a joke wing that you could take off in 2mins and the taillights which you could also switch back to stock (or tint) in no time flat. This thing has a built Tomei motor and HKS gearbox. That is like 30k worth of stuff right there.

53

Fcking BADASS!

What I love about this car other than the awesome electric blue paint and the sweet Tomei crate motor is the fact the car's frame rails aren't laying on the ground like most retarded stanced clown car trash.

This car has a mean purposeful look with wide wheels, wide tires, and quality genuine parts where it counts. It helps that this car is also driven.

55

@Nismo Your on the wrong site for stance bro sorry. had to repost for the truth. stance is cool, not life, ....................and if your just following the trend is it even cool?

56

Ugly s15 with cool parts. that sums it up well i think

57

Appears to be quite a labor of love. It always suprises me when cars with so much care in their making are sold, but that is life.

58

HA man nissan owners always put a smile on my face cause their something new done to a nissan that little GT wing cost as much as very good coilovers to tell you the truth this guy has money to bloww :)

59

@dmcc 28

Thank you for this, thank you.

Stance is NOT the be all end all way of modifying cars. Not sure why people are so obsessed with slamming a car, throwing out a car's handling just to win a few points at the parking lot is PATHETIC.

I'm pretty sure the owner of this car knows what he is doing with the handling and knows what is best for it.

60

whats with the mini spoiler?
