Flash Result>> Cyber Evo Defend Their Crown

The World Time Attack Challenge winner's trophy is once again headed back to Japan, with Tarzan Yamada's 1:28.8510 flyer enough to clinch the win. Congratulations to Tarzan Yamada, Takizawa-san, Unlimited Works and Voltex for their impressive performance.

There was tension in the pitlane as the last Pro Class session got under way, but SSE weren't able to improve on their 1:29.024 laptime. They finished in second place by the narrowest of margins.

Taking the last step on the podium is Garage Revolution, with Mitsuhiro Kinoshita's 1:30.501.

The Tilton Interiors Evo missed out on a trophy by just three tenths of a second. The top five for Pro Class were:

1. Tarzan Yamada, Cyber Evo 1:28.851

2. David Empringham, Sierra Sierra 1.29.0240

3. Mitsuhiro Kinoshita, Garage Revolution Mazda RX-7 1:30.501

4. Garth Walden, Tilton Interiors Mitsubishi Evo 1:30.866

5. Anda Suzuki, Scorch Racing S15 1:31.456

We'll be along with our full report from WTAC 11 in the coming days, but for now it's off to shoot the International Drift Challenge!

Congrats to Tarzan and that crazy evo!

2

Holy crap! congrats to Tarzan and the Cyber Evo crew. SSE deserves a huge congrats as well since they broke last years record. It's unfortunate that they couldn't best the Cyber Evo. Good luck next year guys!

PS: What was up with the whole covering up your pit section? I understand you guys want to keep things a secret but it puts you guys in a position to be scrutinized. =\

3

Fark yeah!! CYBER EVO THE BEST TIME ATTACK CAR IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WELL DONE TARZAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4

it'll be interesting to hear what people (and this site) have to say about CyberEvo's protests against SSE. i know there are a lot of people jumping to conclusions saying that CyberEvo was just upset about potentially losing and made it up, but before i come to a retarded prejudicial conclusion like that i'd like to hear what they have to say.

5

the look on dave emp's face.... priceless

6

What happen with the HKS evo? I thought it was there.

7

No picture of the distinctive winning car? thats harsh.. Congrats again to CyberEvo and Tarzan Yamada!

8

I heard the CT230R was on show, any pics? wish they would run it even if its out of date.

9

@ haternation: that guy is not Dave Empringham. That is the Team Manager Richard Raeder.

@jdmjunkee: maybe your not as jdmjunkee as you think you are, haha.

If you followed the WTAC closely, you would know that the HKS EVO was brought from Japan as a display car only. It was not intended to be raced.

10

Congrats to Tarzan and the Cyber crew. Glad there were attractive models for the photo shoot

11

We need some LIVE CAM next time!!! PLEASE!!!

12

God, there are a few super slow comments in regards to mundane WTAC info.

-Not close to Emp, that is Richard Raeder, the SSE team manager... Eric just did an in depth MotoIQ blog labeling each and every one of them.

-The CT23r was never supposed to run a lap, just to have it there SHOULD be enough to satiate TA fans.

Wasn't the trap speed the issue? not the time?

Did the 'bang bang' ever get up and running??

13

Dino, I know you got me good shot of "Global" sticker on Cyber Evo.

14

sad to see such a gap from 2nd to 3rd and from 4th to 5th.

Time attack is pretty lame if the competition is that far from each other. I mean a solid 2.5 seconds from 1st to 5th?????

Love the cars, but hate the lack of real competition.

15

Good to see the Scorch Racing S15 in the top 5 Congrats to them and the Cyber Evo for winning. The Cyber Evo has now achieved Legend status!

16

Walden tried super hard and well done to them for being the fastest Aussies!

17

Haha i got a shot with tarzan just before he went up, he seemed like a super nice guy and deffinately deserved the win here. Is it true that the Evo is retiring soon?

18

HKS evo was there for display purposes only.

19

@ JDMized, i was talking about the 1st picture...look in the back??

20

I like the second picture, haha... Those faces just say "ah, shit. 0.15 of a second!"

21

All I know is that the gloves are off now. Rivalry is always a good thing for motorsports though. I am just wondering if the Cyber EVO was running the same Yokohamas that were protested against when Billy Johnson ran that crazy time of 1:18.555 in the NSX at Willow Springs (Don't get me wrong, lap times are still lap times and you have to give props when due). It will be interesting to see what unfolds next...

22

OMG want to touch. those ladies pictards are officially heisted for my video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7DcMmzJLAM

23

Yeah, I wanna hear more about the whole nitrous accusation. How did that all go down? The last I heard about it, Sierra-Sierra offered up an inspection for their car but no one did anything?

24

Sierra-Sierra Enterprises had to cover their car so they wouldn't give away all their secret methods for making the car break down. Do they know that GM sells a stock Corvette with air Conditioning and 600 hp that is stone reliable? Why f*ck around with unreliable econo-boxes? Time-Attack: Small Japanese cars that break. Cheers.

25

what happened to all other competitors? were there only 5 teams competing? lol

26

Hot hot chick!! (the one on the right)

27

Thanks for the Speedhunters sticker charles!! Appreciate it :)

28

Muffin top

29

Great coverage, as always:) Hope you guys enjoyed yourselves. The adrenaline is still pumping (ableit at much lower levels) as we're preparing all the cars to be shipped back home.

Congratulations to all the winners and runners up. Top effort all around, I'm sure the fans will agree:)

30

JDMized needs to have his eyes checked! In the first phoro Emp looks as though he's hating life.

Nonetheless, nothing but kudos to SSE and the rest of the teams for making the event very competitive, Emp and the SSE are one the few driver/cars to really challenge Tarzan and the Cyber Evo.

31

Hot hot chick!! (the one on the right)

32

congrats to Cyber Evo and Tarzan..great run..can't believe they can up the game when SSE had already surpass the 1.29 barrier.suddenly Cyber got to a 1.28 barrier..damn..congrats to all the winner and participants..

33

@will frue I'm not one for usually making posts but I think it's either your ignorance or stupidity that has led me to comment. Perhaps you need to go and learn about time attack and it's origins, then you might have a bit more insight about the whole concept. I'm guessing you're American? If you've invested such massive amounts of money, time and commitment as the Sierra Sierra team who are at the very pointy end of the field, I'm pretty sure you'd be holding all your secrets close to your chest, let alone the fact that 3 of the top 5 cars are the same model, it makes 100% sense. Also, after being at the event over the weekend I can tell you Sierra Sierra was not the only team trying to keep prying eye's out. I'm not even going to go into the fact that these "econo-boxes" are smashing the lap times that the fastest multi millions dollar v8 supercars on full slicks have done around this track. All in all it was a great event with heaps of excitement and a load of fun, I know I'll be back next year! Well done to all the teams that entered and a big thank you to the event organizers and all that were involved, you guys deserve a pat on the back.

34

hate to be the hater, but -

its amazing how much AUD was wasted to try to beat one tuner evo, admittedly with a bit of above average aero, and maybe some special tires.

honestly. what is the point of WTAC? it is dead in the water just like our drifting series, and for the exact same reason.

to my understanding time attack competitions in japan are a proving ground for real tuners to display their demo cars. the side effect is is enthusiasm from the grass roots motorsport enthusiasts. encouraging them to get out there and have a go, and improve their cars as well. something to aspire to.

the aussie cars at WTAC have no relevance. to anything. and it proves just how lacking our scene is when cars which are built with basically no rules at all cant beat what is basically a stripped evo with a built motor.

no offense to the aussie teams who fielded cars. if i were in the same position i might do the very same thing, im sure its plenty of fun.

a little more foresight from our event organizers is whats really needed.

35

Congratulation to the Cyber Evo and Tarzan!

36

Tarzan and CyberEvo called and said "BooYah" and then promptly hung up the phone. Love it.

37

the revolution guy looks like he was trolling david on that 1st picture. :D

38

Thank you All Guys

Thank you All Rivals

Thank you WTAC

Thank you Australia!

39

For 4 journos, you guys havent seemed to have posted much. Is there more on the way or was that it?

40

@Dimitri To say our cars are built with no relevance is a bit odd.. the majority are built by tuners who are trying to make them faster, sounds identical to the japanese to me.. with the side affect of having a pretty huge crowd. Is it really that surprising the cyber evo beat every other car? I remember it in 2006 when it was setting quick lap times.. thats 5 years ago. I bet 75% of the assuie time attack cars were stock 5 years ago.. apples and oranges.

41

Congratulations to Cyber Evo/Unlimited Works and Tarzan Yamada!

Can't wait for more coverage from the event. More pics of the Voltex aero would be great.
