Our Top 20 Overtakes continues, and this time we have one of Andy B's picks. The 2007 12 Hours of Sebring had a nail-biting finish to the GT2 class. On the very last lap Jaime Melo, driver of the Risi Competizione Ferrari, was trying desperately to hold off Jorg Begmeister's Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. On newer tyres, Begmeister was forced to use every inch of the track to make his pass; and while that pass in itself was fantastic, it was Melo who would then dive back up the inside into the final corner. What a pass. And what a finish!

I remember warching this on tv and almost screaming at the tv it was so good. It was and still is one of the best finishes to a race I have ever seen or heard about. Just awesome.

2

How did it end? Was is sanctioned anyway? It doesn't seam all that clean racing...

3

+1 my heart was racing watching that race. I wanted Porsche to win

4

I think you mean Jaime Melo. Felipe Melo is a Football (or Soccer, as some call it) player.

5

This then happened 2 years later at Laguna Seca.

6

nothing like a heated run after 12 hrs. so good

7

No foul play there, they both had nowhere to go. Awesome racing.

8

Jaime Melo* Great race to watch..love Sebring

9

i gotta say... I LOVE THESE vids you guys are putting up. I replay it few times~

TOP 20 Overtakes posts gots to be one of the best of SH.

10

It was Jaime Melo, not Felipe

12

it's Jaime Melo! :)

great racing! forza ferrari!!!

13

this had my heart stop when I watched it first. ALMS GT2 has to be the hottest racing on TV on the planet. Ultra competitive!

To Vitor, there was no penalty. It was quite controversial to say the least. It's racing at it's best and racing at it's worst depending on how you look at it. If I can find the Excellence article regarding this race and the outcome, I'll post the info later. I know the sanctioning body did something in Porsche's favor at another race because of this incident.

Absolutely epic finish... I was jumping up and down yelling at the TV...

15

Isn't it Jaime Melo, not "Felipe" Melo?

16

I still can't believe they didn't award a penalty to Risi on that one.

17

Sebring is such a gnarly track, that last sweeper is crazy fast.

18

Damn, that was intense.

19

Sooooo good. My Baltimore ALMS tickets are safe and sound in my desk. Now I really can't wait after watching this :)

Who was the guy who was complaining about reckless driving? I don't see any reckless driving, their lines switched - neither the taps where reckless. It usually happens when you're driving with your tyres's grip on the edge. Thumbs, hands and arms up (lol) one of the best overtakes EVER.

21

that looked like me racing on gran turismo or something, using the other car to make the turn lololol

22

Just fireworks !! Awesome!!

23

Such good racing in ALMS GT2!!! And its always Borgmeister involved lol

24

I love this overtake, and the subsequent one at laguna seca

After sanctioning a victory like that They paved the way for Bergmeister to run the corvette off the road 2 years later because he realised that if he just drove cleanly they'd simply award the victory to the corvette that bumped him offline. Watch the vid posted by Taylor Hays in the comments.
