Random Snap>>suzuki Cultus Gti

Anyone else a fan of oddball vehicles? Check out this Suzuki Cultus GTi race car from Motor Sports Shop Target in Japan. Equipped with a 1300c twin cam motor, this little Suzuki delivered respectable performance for its time, and its featherweight chassis made it a joy on the backroads. Here in the US it was sold as the Suzuki Swift GT/GTi and can be found cheap on the used car market.

Looking for a unique project car with a little JDM cred? Here you go.

I was just thinking of these cars the other day. I would go with a Swift GT(i) over a Geo Metro any day.

2

Nice to see different little JDM cars :)

More photos & spec!!

3

one of my co workers is building one of these for a FWD dirt track series

4

Brilliant car!

Only snobbery would elicit animosity for such a jovial and lively conveyance.

5

Best small car ever!

6

We actually have a really mean Swift GTi here in Sweden. It has been converted to a tube frame and widened, the engine is mounted longitudal and turbo converted, providing the rear wheels with 355 hp.

7

pretty famous car in europe. Race cars up to 200HP and only 600kg!!

8

Photos and specs pleasse ! that twin Cam engine is small but mighty ....

9

Yup, I'm a fan of rare vehicles too. I really like these small Japanese cars, especially those kei cars like the Suzuki Alto Works and whatnot.

10

oddball? Its a well known contender in various european championships, its power to weight ratio is perfect for a lot of small displacement series, i.e. the smaller classes in the Nürburgring Nordschleife VLN races. It can take most of the 25km flat footed ^^

Dear Mike,

Any chance you could do a feature on this car?

12

these were the weapon of choice in the UK for a little while at least (with the boy racer fraternity).. and they came with electric windows too.. this example looks ready for action!

G13B POWWWWAAAHHH!!!!!

Still spewing I crashed mine. Best pocket rocket ever.

15

16

Search old pics off the Cultus Pikes Peak guys,a good one too.

@Noi5eB0mb: I'm not sure I'm the right person to do it.

Here's a project log in English though: http://www.teamswift.net/viewtopic.php?t=9156

I thought the Cultus was the AWD drive version????????

This is nace car, this is litle power around the world!!!

I agree with ACC, it's only oddball to those who never get past televised motorsports: NHRA/NASCAR/F1/LeMans/Super GT. The Cultus was a staple of the Japanese rally scene in the late 80's and early 90's, and finished consistently at the top of its class.

Smart money is also on the fact that the Cultus shown is certainly able to deliver respectable performance by TODAY'S standards, and whip a lot of much more powerful and much more expensive cars. Put that car on the track against a 400+ HP, 2012 model year production car and it will probably cause a lot of grief. Try to complain it isn't a fair match and consider it's 1.3 liter, FWD, 20 years old, and has an insurable value of a thousand dollars.
