What would you do as your victory celebration? For his second V8 Supercars victory, driver Shane Van Gisbergen decided to drift. Now we've all seen race winners do burnouts or hang the tail out, but Van Gisbergen really drifts. At first the commentators think that Van Gisbergen's slide through the final corner was an accident, but all becomes apparent during his victory lap. Considering how little lock V8 Supercars have, Van Gisbergen did very well!

Id strip naked and hump my car in front of everybody.

2

i was watching this live and grinning my face off, awesome stuff.

3

Go hard New Zealand!

4

The Giz loves to put on a show and that's exactly what he did. Can't compare it to the skids in New Zealand, though.

5

Thats wicked! Considering how twitchy those cars car. Awesome celebration. Im surprised it doesnt happen more often.

6

someone get him in formula d

7

This just made me like v8 supercars a bit more. i loves me a good bit of showmanship and that was one of the best!

8

Hell yeah, NZ reprazent!

That was awesome from the first manji. I woulda been tempted to do a few couple of O's and pop the tyres at the end...but the officials prolly wouldn't like it haha.

Anyway, one of the best victory laps ever!

9

i might start watching v8 supercars now ha

11

That's some impressive control, awesome race drive too.

12

Awesome drifting, this beats any Jap-drifter.

13

Hmmm...vaughn, get the 'stang out. We got a contender here

14

Best victory tire-roasting display I've ever seen.

15

You can see how sketchy and difficult that car was to drift (for obvious reasons). Still really impressive. I have to say, if NASCAR winners did a huge Irwindale-style drift at the end, I'd definitely watch NASCAR. (only the victory lap though :P)

16

thats pretty impressive for a car not intended to do that

17

What a great thing to do for the fans after winning the race.

18

might his car cannot open its window. That's why he doing drift.

19

Bring it on I say. More sideways celebrations. The Giz got fined for the drifting in NZ - not in the NT though. Can't believe Craig Lowndes got fined though...

FORD - First On Race Day !

22

What Ford was that? Might as well be another platform for drifting, you may never know. I might look into one.

But overall I love V8 supercars and rally for the reason on amazing competition.

23

now thats what i call a victory lap!!! lol i think vettel tried that sorta thing at Canada....didnt go to well!!! LOOOL

24

I watched this live as well and I was in awe of his precision drifting. Bear in mind this is a car set up NOT to slide ... As someone else said above Shane could probably do well in pro drifting. BEST. CELEBRATION. EVER.

25

Now thats car control! Good stuff!

I think he did well for the setup of the car. However, purpose built on the same track is a little better :P

Its been blocked in my country :/

twas a good effor by Gis, but its not so much drifting as doing a massive rolling burnout, he was sitting on the brake the whole time, hence why he was able to control it. but good effort none the less
