Speedhunters reader Jarrod Moore recently attended a two day festival put on by the Victorian Drift Club. The two festival was held at Winton's motor raceway, which is two hours north of Melbourne, Australia. There were fewer slow-down points around the track, as well as larger groups allowed out during each session. It was the first time that an event like this had taken place, and with flood lights around the track it was able to run into the late evening. When the gates opened early satruday morning nearly 120 people had entered Vic Drifts Matsuri.

Several entrants made the long trip over from South Australia, like the ‘All Type Crash’ boys who once out on track quickly got comfortable with the layout and started to get quite a close proximity to one another through the hairpin.

A familiar face to Vic Drift events, and one that has been featured on Speedhunters before was Nigel Petrie, and as usual he was putting on a show.

Another one that kept the crowd happy was this Cefiro, running a little bit wide here and kicking up a bit of dust.

Speaking of the crowd, it was good to see so many people making the trip out to support some grass roots drifting.

In the pits there was also quite a bit of camaraderie between drivers, with everyone lending a hand to keep the cars out on track.

This very neat S13 was one of the stand outs from the event, a well sorted car that continued to impress as the day went on.

One inconspicuous car was this Corolla. Apart from the wide arches, it just looked like another Corolla…

…Until it started and roared into life! 

Drifting right down to the tyres’ belts.

The evening brought a new aspect to the event as well, with drivers adapting to the fading light. Thankfully the key corners all benefited from flood lighting! 

A Cefiro fills the dark with the glow of its rear tyres.
