Car Spotlight>> Rauh Welt Master Piece

Behold the Master Piece. There was no way I was going to leave Tsukuba after the RWB Meeting in January before getting a couple of shots of this camo 930 widebody.

Originally when this car came out of the Rauh Welt workshop in Noda it was white. However, after the owner required a color change, Nakai-san decided to do something completely different and came up with what has to be one of his most original matte finishes.

This is one Porsche that just screams look at me!

If you don't look closely enough you might miss the RWB logo stenciled into the hood.

Like most of Nakai's complete cars the Master Piece rides on SSR Professors, 10.5Jx18" front and 12Jx18" at the rear. Hankook Ventus TD semi-slick tires are used at all four corners, 265/35R18 front and 295/35R18 rear.  AP-Racing 4-pot calipers are fitted up front to help shave speed off efficiently and consistently on track.

The Turbo spoiler is fitted with a high-mounted banana wing, a detail Nakai-san likes to use for the more track-oriented cars he builds.

The 930 looked almost surreal against the winter sunset.

It's all business inside with only the essentials present: 1x Recaro bucket seat, 1x Momo steering wheel, 1x Lap timer

Is this one of Nakai-san's best creations? That is impossible to say as I think I have never see a Rauh Welt Porsche which I haven't liked. One more to add to an ever-growing list of masterpieces then…

Master Piece of Sh*t more like. Looks like some unfinished project you'd find sat in front of a tatty council house lowering the tone of the area even further. Wake up people.

2

This car is ugly as shit...i like some of his other work but wtf was he thinking when he painted this car.

3

yea, really don't like it ay. matte can compliment a strght body sure, but this just looks like it doesn't belong anywhere. no wow factor at all!!

4

I think this car looks awesome. Definitely one that will have people on both sides of the fence. I know its track spec, but I still hate interiors with unkempt wires. At least zip tie them up.

5

Wow haters going to hate...this 911 ROCKS...I think the combo of a "Nazi arse engined slot car"...how Hunter S Thompson described the 911 for Playboy back in the early 70's and Camo paint gives it a real WW2 fighter plane vibe...car culture should have enough room for evry style

7

His cars are breathtaking. I'd love to get the chance to wring one out on a track.

8

Yes sir that is what Im talkin about thank you thank you thank you...

9

Amazing machine.

Def a Master Piece.

10

Magnifique !

11

Beautiful :D Lovin´ the "Rawness" of the car, really a true Master Piece...

12

If Mad Max drove a Porsche, this would be it! It screams evil purpose.

13

Love it, proper bit of kit and nice to see someone with the balls to do something different.

My only concern with this RWB stuff is that its going to look dated very quickly. Similarly to the Ottenger kits on golfs, I just think this looks awesome now but will be a bit old hat in 5 years time....

14

What! R u for real! It's an amazing machine!

15

"I have never see a Rauh Welt Porsche which I haven't liked" Same here !

16

effing love RWB!

17

@ Porsche 911 fan - You have to be joking, right?? This 930 is absolutely amazing and is most likely better than any Porsche that you'll ever drive/ride in (If you can ever afford one, lol.)

18

Paint scheme is looking artistic expressive with a camoflauge theme. . . not feelin it.

19

Man doesn't care about what you say cause he saved the weight of the zipties for the electric loom.

20

I like it, but I dont love it, I think the camo paint and silver wheel barrels kill it for me. I do like the not-front-caged interior and the hunkered down all business look of the car. Wow haters gonna go bonkers on this one because of the outlandish paint? Come on people, its easily changed and very personal, dont bother hating it. Love the RWB cars, theyre insane!

21

first rwb car that i have not liked. if it's camo, it's a crappy job of laying it down.

22

I do not see how something with wiring hanging down from behind the dash could be called a "Master Piece."

I like the agressive style, but hate the lack "fit and finish" in this car. Quality and attention to detail are more timeless than trendy/popular paint/wheel/looks.

23

i would prefer it in white...

24

Not the best honestly. The car looks unfinished. No matter how "Unique" the so called "paintjob" is, it looks tacky and brings down the caliber of the car.

There are also a few other details: the wheel lips are dirty and unpolished, there's wiring hanging out from the dash, etc.

The wild wide-body looks great.

25

I bet that piece of shit is faster than whatever you drive... Looks can be deceiving. I dig it, but I like all track look of most of the highly covered rauh welt cars.

26

my buddy has a sweet 930 turbo on chrome speedline wheels, blue/purple paint, and white interior. man Rauh just nails it everytime with his creations. love the camo..

27

Looks sick :)

dunno what your looking at "Porsche 911 fan"

28

Awesome look. i love it.

29

i like it!

Its got a military look and feel to it and its original...

Original is good!

30

Better swap MIG27 engine into the truck =)

31

ummmmm why no engine shotss??

32

Just one small complaint...it's only a 930 if it's a TURBO. Otherwise it's just a 911, from the 60s all the way to 1989. Only once you get into the 964 does the chassis designation change or mean anything. It drives me bonkers that this site refers to all pre-964 911s as "930s" - a pretty glaring mistake - when it does so well with everything else regarding engine / chassis codes for all the JDM stuff.

So please, for the love of god, all 930s (911 turbo) are 911s, but not all older 911s are 930s.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_930

33

stfu porsche fan. Noone said this was a restoration project...

34

I like the wheels and brakes.

HOWEVER,..the interior is a bit messy and the rear fender seems to be lacking something.

35

Horrid. The engine is probably stock too. I wish rauch welt would finally stop killing Porsches

36

Come on, this car is killer! Not much that comes out of the RWB garage that i dont like.

WALLPAPER PLEASE!!!!

37

i think its different.. not what i expected, pretty sure its a rocket off the mark tho'..

38

"i wanna be a star"

39

I love Porsches, especially this Turbo, mmmmmmmmmm love it

40

this car is a bruiser, its not meant to be valet parked. nothing wrong with that

41

@Porsche 911 fan_ you're the one who needs to wake up, retard. it isnt trying to look clean or classy or any shit like that. its SUPPOSED to look run down. it's SUPPOSED to look mean and aggressive. It's SUPPOSED to look rough. that's why it's fuckin called Rauh Welt, stupid. Rough World. don't hate on it just because you can't understand his concept of style.

but despite the "rough" styling, the beauty of it all is that it actually is clean. this contrast is part of what makes the Rauh Welt style even greater. everything from the track-built engine to the high-quality Promodet brake system to the SSR wheels-- nothing but clean. if you're too stupid or too ignorant to see that, you just don't know what clean is. but hey feel free to continue being a trolling faggot that's just in the nature of a hater right?

http://www.youtube.com/user/DRFTmonkeh?feature=mhum

42

now thats badass!!!! one of the few porsches ive seen with a wow factor!! The paint just sets the character of this car.

43

whoever wins, we lose.

44

Desktops?????

last picture plz!

45

and ignore the purists who drive pristine porsches and fail to understand why any RWB porsche is 1000 times manlier than their delicate, pampered machines. This isnt some fan-boi honda with rusted hood or any of that nonsense, its a track car that MAD MAX would be proud to drive.

46

I agree, Dino is wrong this time. Apart from the fact that I dislike those RWB Porsches in general, this is a particularly nasty example why.

47

wow. i'm in love. looks great and i'd have to put this up there alongside the greats like the Stella Artois

48

Im not really diggin the paint either. Polish those rims!

49

Wow, so track oriented. Not even a cage, and look at those stupid wide tires. Probably still has a stock engine. Nothing new, only for show. Nice work RWB, again

50

WTF ^^^^^?!!! really i reckon that this is one of the most unique RWB creation ive saw! its a marmite car, you either hate like these chaps at the top or you love them like me and probably a lot of other people as well!!! i take it theres no chance of a desktop is there?! please!!!!!

51

haters gonna hate.

ilooks like a fun track toy, and i'd drive it any day

52

Worst RWB ever !

53

This 911 is the BOMB. You purists can go screw yourselves and thats why he does things like this. You cannot look at this car and not say WHOOOOOAAA, whether you are a fan or not. Sure RWB doesnt tune the engines as much, let someone else do that. RWB takes care of its IMPACT.

Reminds me of a certain camouflaged 911 turbo carerra widebody car that resided in a shop in Mira Mesa....it was called "Grampa" and was over 700hp....whenever it was in sight it made you uneasy, looked like it ate babies for fuel. Like this one.

54

Its a race car numb nuts its not hard parked like your used to seeing, you don't put 2G's into a paint job on a car you might put in the wall... I think it looks purposeful... All yall would rock that if it was handed to you.

55

thats unique. I like it A LOT

56

Plus, one of the reasons i would think they advertise on the rear wing because thats the part of the car that is seen the most on the track. driver "oh look at that "ugly Porsche" I can't pass him, wait!? whats that on the back?? RWB.... huuuh?" Now he will forever remember when a camo RWB Porsche smoke him.

57

ehhhh.....i dont know about this one. Body is sick, paint is kind of lame the brown makes loooks like its dirty ll the time.

58

track cars dont care what you think they look like.

id be willing to bet that most people commenting on how it looks also care about hellaflush status, "aero" kits (because its too gay to call them body kits like they actually are. none of that shit was actually tested in a wind tunnel, get over it) and all that useless scene nonsense too.

its a porsche, theyre not delicate super cars designed to look pretty or flashy at all. theyre meant to be driven hard, posting quick laptimes. its the whole reason the motor is so far out back. in a sea of solid colored porsches at the Idler's games and other japanese open track events, i wouldnt be surprised if the paint was done as a way to differentiate it from the other RWB when theyre on track.

function>form, kids.

i wish these posts werent all about the exterior, where are the engine shots? the suspension pics?

0-60 magazine flies out there and gets a freakin video shot, and the resident japanese corespondent cant even get pics of an engine? mike spinelli should be proud

59

That's not a 930.

Plus I'm willing to bet not much is going on engine-wise...

60

That thing is NASTY!!!!! (good nasty!!!) ..... That is one amazing Porsche!

61

LOL at the all the haters on this master piece. What are we on Jalopnik????

62

I'm a bit ambiguous to the camo color scheme. however, the only thing on my mind is why anyone would ask for a color change on a masterpiece from RWB. imagine how sick this thing must have looked in white :O

personally, i'd much rather have a white RWB than a camo one; but then again, i'd be happy with any old porsche.

63

Camo paint job is a bit played out here in NZ, maybe not so much in Japan I dunno....

I don't like MASTER PIECE on the side either.

It's still very cool but IMHO if it were just 1 drab colour without that sticker it would 100% cool B)

64

It remindes me of a German WWII era fighter, Luftwaffe ftw!

65

It's certainly a very cool car but I'm not so sure about the paint. I'm normally a fan of the 'rough style' wehrmacht look but this time it didn't come off so well.

That said, it'd be a sad day when Mr Nakai stopped doing this kind of stuff- I'm a fan of his work.

66

i've never seen a Rauh Welt car i didn't like, this is no exception. as for the paint....as long as the owner likes it who cares? i bet this things a monster on track.

67

I love the purity of this car. It wasn't built as a show queen. It is a track car. Meant to go fast, break fast, and be fixed and back on the track before the show cars are finished getting waxed up so hey can sit there nd be pretty. The owner was probably tired of blending in and did something different.....OH NO!!

Also, you bitches whining about his wheels not being polished need to just stop and think. The car was photographed at a track day, what was he doing? He was doing more than hard parking and polishing.

GET DIRTY. Hella UN Flush

68

Nice Porsche

69

Hope that these 911 is SURVIVE in the Magnitude 8.9 Quake God Bless JAPAN!

70

fit for purpose. Very cool.

71

alot of porsche yuppies out there. hate away you yuppies.

72

looks so tough... i bet she eats corners as well... success

73

Yeah, a lot of yuppies drive Porsches, So what? Yeah, maybe someone criticizing the car won't ever get to ride in a car as nice. So what? How does this make this car not a bad car?

Look, in general I like Rauh Welt and their 911s, But the reality is that this is just a really crap camo paint job. And to the people saying that this car is all about function and is totally designed for the track, you need to study up a little more on what makes a good track car.

Rauh Welt Porches are never pure track machines, at least the ones I've seen on this site. While they may see a lot of track time, there's a ton of focus on the look alone, This post makes that obvious; no suspension shots, no engine shots, no discussion of differential, sloppy wiring, the list goes on. Sure, the intent was to make a car that looks tough with maybe a hint of 'rat rod' to it, but don't for a second think that that makes it track car.

Here are some of the things about this car that are all form before function. The banana wing: you see a lot of F1, LMP, time attack cars with banana wings? Didn't think so. The sloppy wiring: just unacceptable. Reveals a complete lack of attention to engineering best-practices, which is fine if you're going for an "I don't care" look but is garbage if you care about going fast. The ride height: I like the way it looks but by what I know about about previous RW 911 suspensions, it's definitely not optimal.

This car is not all about the track. It's all about having that Rauh Welt look, and then looking that way while driving around a track. The stance and widebody appeal to me but that's it. This is not a serious track car and it kinda looks like crap.

74

Banana GT wings were used in the late 90’s JGTC 911s on the newer 993 race chassis.

Yeah, an engineer can pick apart RWB for not using the latest functional tech available, but lapping Tsukuba circuit in the 58 sec range with an NA car is very respectable, plus I think they look cool. RWB Porsches seem to try and balance looks, function, and cost, because not all of us can afford a brand new GT3 ($115K). Even if I could afford a new Porsche, I wouldn’t buy one because the new bigger chassis weigh more (total 3200lbs!) than the 964’s and I prefer the look of the older 911s. I think they run RWB coilovers with dampers from Aragosta. From an interview, Nakai-san says he uses genuine Porsche and US tuner parts. Nakai-san also said his cars are duel-purpose street and track cars where “Neither is more or less important”.

I really like how it looks (including paint), plus the fact you can drive it on the street makes it a car I would love to own.

75

Love it, that has to be one of the best camo jobs i have seen.

1st or last pic for desktop please Dino!

76

I think the paint makes it look more MASTER CHIEF than MASTER PIECE. All in all, I like it. And if you're like me and you like the one part race one part rat, two parts awesome style, then you'll like it too. And if you don't, well its clear just by looking at the car that the owner thinks you should deal with it yourself.

Its weird actually, I hate Porsche in general, but i love RWB.

I too would like to complain about the lack of mechanical shots.

Oh and can we has desktopz pl0z? :D

77

IF YOU GOT HATERS-THEN YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT! This car is awesome. Imagine seeing this thing come at you in your rearview mirror. MOVE OVER!!

78

this is WAR MACHINE!!

79

I really like RWB-Porsches but there is something they never got right and it is getting worse: their attempt to use german phrases and words.

It's absolutely ridiculous. Even the name of the company is bogus: I know that it comes from "Rough World", but "Rauh Welt" is wrong grammar. "Rauhe Welt" (or "Raue Welt" in new orthography) would be correct.

The writing on the wing of this car reads "der Dritte schlag", which could mean "the third hit" or perhaps even "the third strike" - but it doesn't mean that, is is written wrong. Try "Der dritte Schlag" instead and yes, in the german language capital letters mean a big difference.

On the back of several RWB-cars are the words "Sekund Entwicklung". "Sekunde Entwicklung" would mean "second (unit of time, not 2nd) development". I think they translated badly from english to german and it is really nonsense and pretty embarassing. 2nd development like in the 2nd stage of development would be "Zweite Entwicklungsstufe".

"Verwalter" on the back of another car just means custodian or curator. WTF?

It is rather sad that a company which puts so much effort in their great cars is so sloppy in other aspects.

Rauh Welt thinks decals in german are important? Better put some thought in it. Otherwise don't do it...

80

I think I can nail the problem of this "style" on the head.

The thing with "rough looks" is that the car is supposed to ACQUIRE the look as it ages and goes through tough use, starting out looking clean and well built, and ending up rough and beat up.

THAT is cool, it shows a real "rough world".

The PROBLEM is when someone artificially creates this look from the start, trying to imitate the real thing. It reminds me of fake aging of antique furniture. It's only cool when it's the real thing.

81

I love classic porsches (as in I'm a fan, not particularly knowledgeable), and I love the aesthetics of the wide style and matte finishes of the RWB cars, but this isn't their best work in my opinion. It's hard to compare what's 'cool' in one culture from another, but (again, imo) making cars look ratty on purpose is really lame. I loved the 0-60 article on RWB, and I mostly like their style, but they seem more like a boutique or one of those vintage fashion stores than an outfit that primarily makes cars to do the damn thing. also perhaps hunting isn't such a popular thing as it is in the midwest where I live, but I have seen better camo paint jobs on K5 blazers and fishing boats. I think it's bad enough that I don't know which is worse, if it was the best they could do at a camo paint job (which i doubt), or if they just wanted it to look poorly executed on purpose.
