At the recent Autosport International, I came across a small retail stand selling various DVDs from the continent. Most were either classic Group B cars in France or the other option was the Berg Cup season reviews in German. Since I’m trying to expand my automotive tastes, I picked up a copy of the 2010 Berg Cup season review. I found the above clip on YouTube which just about captures the essence of what surely will be my own personal automotive related find of 2011. I’ve no idea how this escaped me before ! Ex-DTM, Ex-WTCC, some Group B inspired cars along with a host of classic BMWs and Opels and the odd JDM machine. It’s an incredible watch although a little bit painful to watch at times. It just goes to demonstrate how these drivers are pushing 110% the entire season. This video showcases the high and lowlights of one season.

is every single car destroyed by the end of the race??? i think i saw every one of them wreck and rip half the car off

2

2:25, hahahaaaaaaa

Hill Climb racers are crazy guys with balls of steel! We have several famous hills, where Europes fastes hill climber join the race.

Here in Switzerland where this one has been filmed, circuit racing is not allowed, but hill climbs and Auto X are, bit crazy I know.

4

It seems like the cars aren't getting enough heat into their tires before they make their runs or something.

5

Totally sick!!! ;D

I like it! ;)) Love use of street roads for racing, the surface is awesome compare to what we have here in Samara, middle Russian Federation.

6

OOO DAMN that R35 went into the tree!

7

sooo many beautiful cars smashed up. i think i'll stick to racing sims lol. @ mr moons. i noticed that too. maybe it was a wrong tire/size/rims or something...

that merc evo.... beautiful till it was smashed! ouch

8

Awesome video! Most of the guy were definitely charging but it seemed like some of them werent even familiar with the course, entering a turn at a blistering pace with the wheels locked up is never a good idea.

10

So much carnage

11

The Austrians take their hillclimbs pretty seriously too!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xB0wukApTc

Lot's of group B inspired goodness :)

12

Really nice video... But I've almost cry when that guy destroy the R35...

Pleased to see a lot of alfa and lancia.

13

Way to much crashes in this video !

As a regular spectator of this events, I can assure you that this is not repressentative of the quality of the drivers.

14

I bet that R35 was very expensive to fix.....

15

I find is very saddening to watch some of these oldschool race cars crash.

16

So, did anyone make it to the finish?

17

Lol look like they were all destroying their car, i'm glad i didn't saw any lan evo crash ^^

18

OUCH ! They can destroy as many Renault, Peugeot and Opels as they want, but for all the others ... NO !

Poor GTR ...

20

That was painful to watch, the Alfa GTA was the worst.

21

I feel like no cars finished that race....or at least thats the way the video made it seem.

22

this video made me cry! so many gorgeous cars mashed to f§@k. that alfa GTA... that alfa sprint (my favourite)... also dig the mkII polos and that lupo... and of course the BMWs are all awesome. tempting to say "what a waste" but then again the real waste would be NOT to do that with those cars.

23

Maybe a different video (where not every single car and driver crashes) would showcase the bergcup, and hillclimb in general, a bit better. The sport is a perfect mix of tarmac rallye and time attack.

24

Loving the Mazda Familia GTX/GTR at 2.:34...

25

what's the car at 5:50?

thanks

26

its rally racing...spin outs and over shooting turns comes with the sport. besides who doesn't like their dose of destruction and mayhem in motorsports!?!? =]

27

So many of the crashes were just bizarre :/ I don't claim to be the best driver but I doubt I would crash.

28

I love it- I'm going to look for some downloads

29

At the risk of sounding ignorant, What is Group B racing and what countries are involved in it

30

Awesome racing... every hit looked so painful though, poor cars lol

32

epic the way the GTR crashes :D

33

epic the way the GTR crashes :D

35

Berg Cup cars are crazy, first heard of these in a magazine called "Retro Cars". VW, BMW and Opel with three inch fender flares and sometimes carbon fibre wheels.

Thanks for posting this !!

36

I noticed a some fine examples of great driving... And a lot of no so good examples. Did they all forget that their tires haven't warmed up yet or something?

37

Seems that in addition to a lot of the cars not having proper tires temps to mesh with the asphalt at an optimum rate, that a lot of the cars don't have the required downforce and are way too top heavy, notice how most of the purpose built racing cars with a low center of gravity and downforce did well, the only other cars that did well were those nice all wheel drive machines that could compensate with superior active mechanical grip at all 4 corners and their purpose built rally nature in mind such as the mitsubishis and some lanicas.

38

Guys, why cry over the R35? You can still buy them new, so it's not like they're irreplaceable.

39

two words: sick nasty

40

WOW. An event the Speedhunter haven't discovered until now. It's an event i've always wanted to go to.

There are better videos of this on YouTube featuring less crashes, but i think i'd rather see commitment than boring rich people.

41

So many cars were crashing, I'd say that it's a poorly organized event. It's a demolition derby of some very beautiful cars. Course markings and signage? Tire regulations? Level of the drivers compared to the course? Definitely needs some improvement. I stopped the video when I saw that old Alfa flip.

42

Some of really awesome cars were pushed to the limits, some of them to the bits and pieces! lol

43

Loved seeing the orange E30 M3 drift around all the turns, but cringed when I saw M3/2002/Merc 190 Evo go crunch :(

44

Wow! Those guys weren't holding back! Some beautiful cars trashed but I'm sure there were even more that made without the drama. Reminds me, May, Kelowna B.C. hillclimb with a good variety of cars. Yeehaw.

45

curious said:

what's the car at 5:50?

thanks

^ I was asking exactly the same question.

46

The car at 5:50 is an Alfa Romeo, called "Alfasud Sprint"

47

Welcome to my addiction. Consider yourself lucky, for beef cup dvds and goods are rare to get state side.

48

lot of bad drivers I think...

51

Really glad the Diamond Star EVO, and the, eight-six, didnt get smashed, but I'm appalled at the very careless use of an R35... WTF AHHhhh!!!!!!!!!!! WELL I GUESS THATS RACING FOR YA... Scratch that, I guess thats driving a car really fast @ what looks to be an amateur free for all, for ya! The only innocent people in this video are the pro drivers and the non pros cars, huh...

52

a lot of sick cars and poor driving skills.

53

This video has summarized the crash of an entire season.

When drivers are on the limit, there will always be incidents.

Check out the videos on my channel, most are pure racing, no crashes.

Regards, Markus of MPZ

54

oh come on guys, calm down. first off, this is a SEASON review. which means, from time to time, when driving on the total limit, some crash. Second, they're not destroying them. nearly all of the cars competed all races and where rebuild in no time. This are racecars, not sissimobiles. It were a lot of hillclimb races so if you keep that in mind its not a lot of crashes, its just cut that way. Then warming the tires: thats not really allowed. These are soft slicks, so they get warm really fast. And then, stop crying about the gtr. its just a basic street machine. Buy another one, be happy. Most of the cars in this video, even the "old ones", cost more than the R35. Not hating here, i also love GTR's, but keep the respect to that judd-V8-hauling-crazymachines ;)

55

Quote from above: This video showcases the high and lowlights of one season.

In fact at the races are only less crashs. This video has summarized the crashs of an entire season.

When drivers are on the limit, there will always be incidents.

The "Hillclimbracers" love their cars too...

56

man im addicted to speedhunters ive checked the website like 10 times today, i kinda need a new post but no rush

57

Mhhh, you call yourself car enthusiasts, but most people "cry" for the Nissan...Come on, what's with the Evo190 II ? Or the 02 BMW? This is really sad to have them being crashed. Not this Japan plastic bomber...

58

I remeber when hillclimb was reserved for old Mg's and lotus, and chaps named Sr. Fredricks.

The Opels were the shit. I wish we would have more of this type of motorsports rather then Drifting, so fucking lame, just like Nascar.

But i guess WRC is the closest to some hillclimb.

59

COOL VIDEO THOUGH

60

I actually found the R35 crash to be amusing. I hate them, so I didn't give a crap. On the other hand, that poor Alfa Romeo...

61

I can't watch it again. The Alfa wreck was too sad :'(

62

Loved it, wish there were more hill climbs in the US, but just some insane racing action!

63

So much awesomeness in the video. All the group B and DTM stuff was great, but the Echo/Vitz/Yaris at 2:28 made me laugh heartily with its wheel lifting antics.

64

that merc with the judd V8 is the S...!!!!! i can not wait to she this sesons new JUDD series 1 bmw :D:D:D

66

Seriously, this website is infested with 12 year olds

all those trotting out bollocks about cold tyres, bad drivers and so on - WTF do you know? These blokes are actually racing, rather than sitting in their parents house playing with themselves thinking about it. Race cars are just that - built for racing. Get over it

Grow some and grow up

Great article - keep it up!

67

i'm watching this like... 5 times a day, but i just can´t get enough :O :D

68

i love that what looks like a e190 merc with i think what sounds like a v8 in it and i love the wing on it looks insane

70

The car on 5:50 is an alfa Romeo Alfetta Gtv-6

71

I wish hillclimbs were bigger in the US. I love watching and would love to participate

72

Love the video, Hillclimbing is very underrated as a sport, good to see a good range of cars having a run. With all the wheel lifting and tank slapping going on I'd reckon there is some dampening/stroke length adjustments going on right now...

Crashes: don't race it if you can't afford to crash it! Let's face it, from a racer: it's going to happen time to time, props to the guy in the open wheeler who gives the marshal a thumbs up and keeps going!

73

Auw that was just painful. looks like there was no grip at all? Could not appreciate seeing that. did any of them made it to the top? I love riding and love riding hard only as non pro at the track there is noting to win but enough to be lost

74

The Alfa crash is just cry worthy. I'll take it, the Opel Kadett or the Delta please! Funny to hear people think these are bad drivers???? WTF!? Look at the difference between the older Opels/VWs and the likes of the Skyline at these races ---- its the difference between the Driver driving the Car and the Car driving the Driver
