Event>>more From The Datsun Swap Meet

I thought I would go ahead and post up some more pictures from my visit to the old school Japanese swap meet held last weekend here in the Los Angeles area. While the parking lot was small, it was packed with more than enough things to attract my camera lens.

This RHD Crown popped up in last year's JCCS coverage. It looked cool then, and looks even cooler parked up on a side street like this.

Widened steelies with beauty rings. These would look hot on a dumped 510!

This red on black Z was one of the day's cleanest cars. Color combo looks great, as do the Enkei 92's.

Another Z, complete with Longchamps and a louvered rear window cover. Very retro!

This two-door 510 sat good. Can't beat the look of 510 with a nice drop and a set of 14's or 15's.

This was one of the few Fairlady Roadsters I spotted. In my findings, it seems the Roadster guys often run in a separate crowd than the 510 and Z guys.

Another view of the Celica LB from the first post.

There's just something appealing about showroom stock cars…

Another right hand drive Nissan Bluebird that has found its way to US shores.

Another rarity brought over from a Japan, a 610 Bluebird SSS. This thing was in amazing shape!

Spotted this mean looking Corolla parked across the street.

For me, the day's most unique find had to be this car (or truck). At first I wasn't quite sure what it was.

But after a closer look, I identified as a Datsun 510 pickup.

Now there never was a 510 pickup from the factory, but this one was apparently was built out of a 510 wagon. It's like the Sunny Truck that we never got here in the states, and the perfect vehicle for a swap meet!

Another clean 510, this one with turbo KA24DE power.

This one meanwhile, is sporting a rotary swap.

Yep, that's a lifted 510 wagon – or at least a 510 wagon body dropped onto an off-road chassis.

One more 510 for good measure. It seems that orange is always a good look on a Datsun.

Aside from the fact that the venue was too small, this was a great event, and a great start towards something bigger.

How cool would it be to see vintage Japanese car enthusiasts come together for big swap meets just like the hot rod guys have been doing since the beginning of time? It certainly seems like there's enough interest.

Who's with me now?

More Datsun love!!

I had 1600 sedan the same orange as the car above, what a striking figure they cut!

Feature post on the rotary 510, grey KA24 510 or the Crown? Please?!

This post is making me rethink a 1600 wagon over a Stagea.

HAHAHA that raised 4WD wagon, so intense

this event was more than worth the drive......shame you didn't get pictures of the projects that lined up the street outside

Great post! One comment though, while there was no actually 510 pickup, the 521 is a datsun pickup that has the same chassis, engine, and rear suspension as the 510 wagon. It looks similar and is basically a 510 truck. Just a side note.

I'm in...its like the hot rod swap meets in pamona. eventually it will be like the Pamona swap meets where dudes will be putting 50k price tags on their "show ready" 510s =P and more than half the people there are really just there to browse because they know all the parts are ridiculously marked up. yah...i have a little chip on my shoulder about the hot rod swap meets.

Nice always find somethin cool @ swapmeets.

7

Rad. Every major city should have an import swap!

8

Love your swap meet posts, Mike. Takes me back to the days before Craigslist, eBay, and all those internet marketplaces, when I used to go with my dad to swap meets and hunt for parts and toys.

9

I don't think I'll ever get tired of looking at Datsuns, or just older Japanese cars as a whole. Can't wait to get the Z out and rip this summer!

10

I have a perverse fondness for that 4x4 510...

What meet is this btw?

just think.. this is just a swap-meet but you can see such a variety of well kept classic cars.. and find parts for 'your' well kept classic car! what a great idea - wake up UK!! love the look of the Red 'Z' with black Enkei rims, the owner got the look just right, even the 2 door 510's (in Orange) are well turned out but the latter of the two just edges the first because of the rims - sweet! i remember the days when louvered rear windows were all the rage :-) - thanks for a interesting post.

14

yeah i posted as NuggwetG60YorkshireUK 'cos its raining like mad here..

15

That crown is way tooo cool

Hmmm ... It looks like an engine swap is easy thing to do in the USA ... Here in France, it's simply considered as an illegal modification as long as you don't pass the DRIRE tests ... Of course you can do without, but have an accident with that and you'll get serious problems ...

17

Have to ask, how many BRE Datsun lookalikes were there?

18

Nice writeup Mike!! Great to see more of these things popping up lately..... I've always been so jealous of all the hotrod guys having these things every weekend. Keep the J-tin alive!!!

The 510 truck looks great. Something about a unibody truck is so out-of-place and awesome. Reminds me of the old VW trucks.

20

That mustard colored Corolla is HOT! Makes me want one bad :P~~!
