Random Snap>> Alfa Romeo 164 Pro-car

Every now and then I scroll through the pages of Swisscarsightings.com. Just recently the owner of the site, Matteo, visited the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo in Arese, Italy. One of the cars he found there was this Alfa Romeo 164 Pro-Car. It is one of those iconic cars that has reached mythical proportions.

It's powered by a V10 engine that had been developed for the F1 program that Alfa Romeo started, but in the end it never materialized. So now they had a V10 engine but no car to put it in. After several years the idea came to enter the Pro-Car series. They called upon Brabham's expertise to build them a tube chassis and in 1988 the car was born.

Unfortunately the Pro-Car series never really started because the big companies didn't wanted to invest time and money in this racing series. So now there is only one 164 Pro-Car that still exists.

Performance figures

Engine: Alfa Corse 72º V10
Power: 600 bhp / 448 KW @ 12000 rpm
BHP/Liter: 171 bhp / liter
Power to weight: 0.8 bhp / kg
Top Speed: 340 km/h / 211 mph

Such a shame this series didn't catch on. Some say the other manufacturers withdrew when they saw what Alfa had built

It's a mid engine V10, for those who are about to ask how a V10 fits in the front...

3

some of the rules :

the car must retain the silhouette of a production car produced to 25000ex. with the possibility of spoiler and lip.

no rules concerning chassis or materials.

no rules on where the engine should be or sit.

tracks should remain stock...

Wow, even the car had Alfa's centennial sticker....

What do you choose? 164-ProCar or M1? i definitely chose Alfa....

@sil80sr20, well yes, but their hood makes up 75% of the car...This is a small 4 door sedan.

I like it, i like it! It's a shame it never raced.. You guy should see the chassis of this car, it's nothing like the standard 164 sedan:
