September Editorial>> Time For A Chat

I'm sure most of the Speedhunters in our little team here would say they've made some fantastic new friends as a result of our automotive adventures. I for one just love chatting it up with fellow car fans about our shared favourite subject.

Going to car events in many ways is like coming home to a second family of like minded individuals. We are all part of an increasingly interconnected automotive community.

So we thought, for September, it would be interesting to chat with a few of the people we've gotten to know in our travels across the globe.

Welcome to Interview Month! This will be a more lightly themed four weeks, with a sprinkling of talks over the course of the month.

In terms of event coverage, next weekend was a bit of a dilemma for us.

You see, the yearly JCCS event has moved up to be is the same weekend as Formula D Sonoma.

This means we've had to change up our plans. Mike Garrett will stay in LA to cover JCCS while Linhbergh and I will be
joined by the man with the mega-lens: Larry Chen to cover off the next round of FD action.

Mike Garrett will then drive up to Nor Cal to shoot Billetproof, one of the more influential hot rod meets on the planet.

I'll be watching this coverage with great interest…

That is, if I have time. I'll be in Portugal that weekend with Jonathan and Linhbergh shooting the FIA GT1 and GT3 machines at Algrave so may be too busy to check in on Mike and his hot rod photography.

This is going to be my last visit to a GT race this year so I'll be making sure to soak up the atmosphere as much as possible.

We'll also be covering off the Goodwood Revival that same weekend…

And will end the month live from Road Atlanta with coverage of Petit Le Mans 2010.

I'm sure John Brooks is hoping for better weather than last year!

Of course I'm only listing a fraction of the stories that will be showcased on Speedhunters this month.

As always there is a big queue of stories, features and reports in the works.

But you'll just need to keep coming back every single day to find out now won't you.

I'll end this editorial post with a question: who do you want us to interview and what questions to ask?

:Rod

I would love to see an interview of John Hennessey. I really like the man, and I admire his cars and I would love to learn more about him. Thanks guys! You rock! This is my all-time favorite site now.

2

I'll put my hand up for a chat if you guys are interested

3

I'd love to see an interview with the directors of the new Fast and the Furious movie (the 5th one that was filmed in Brazil and more recently in Atlanta). I'd love to know what their feelings are towards the automotive scene.

4

I'd love you to interview freelance journo Bryn Musselwhite. He writes for some of my favorite magazines and always seems to have cool projects in the works. I miss his frequent contributions to Retro Cars.

5

ooo! ooo! how about a cross-media shot... interview the editors/writers of Performance VW / Performance BMW / Retro Cars. they're my hardware to your software :)

6

i vote for michael schumacher! he seems like a busy person but i think he's had a great impact and id love for you guys to interview him, who doesn't wanna hear about Ferrari's golden boy?

7

I'd like to read an interview with Grant Scott, also Fink.

8

MARIO ANDRETTI MARIO ANDRETTI MARIO ANDRETTI MARIO ANDRETTI MARIO ANDRETTI MARIO ANDRETTI MARIO ANDRETTI MARIO ANDRETTI MARIO ANDRETTI

9

The Sting please. Should be easier to do now that it's out in the open!

10

definatly luke fink, and maybe some of the other dudes in jdm all stars

11

Any young amateur driver. It would be interesting to hear from someone who is a rookie and fighting his way through the back of the grid in a privateer car. And what motorsport life is like without millions of pounds/dollars worth of backing.

12

please make a desktop version of that pic of the white FD

13

How about interviewing a professional drifter and professional racer side by side and comparing their day to day lives, how they go about doing what they are doing.

14

i hate you guys.... best jobs ever

15

I cast my vote in favour of Schumacher as well, but if you can make a interview with the Top Gear boys you will be on another level!

16

I on the other hand would love to see an interview of Daijiro Inada. One of the people who got the whole "JDM" tuning scene going on. Did he actually have an idea back then that his favorite tuning scene would have such huge impact to all of us who love cars? Did he knew that the underground scene of drifting would be such a hit to people across the globe, by watching one of his creations, JDM option or DI GP?

He exposed tuners that most of us didnt even know back then.

He may not have started everything, but he really gave a big contribution to the whole "car scene" we call.

17

Me!, haha joke, mmm nice question Rod, i think, Horacio Pagani, someone of south america, because, speedhunters isn't here !!! :(

18

Sabine Schmitz - Queen of Nurburgring! The ultimate female Speedhunter

19

I'd want to see an interview with Mika Hakkinen. Questions might include what are his feelings toward current state of F1, what his favorite battle was, his favorie drive(s) and what is his current daily driver would be a few questions I'd start with... He is by far the coolest driver (by far) since Senna.

20

how about jason statham (the actor)? he's done quite a few car-oriented films, and the voiceover for "truth in 24".... but is he really a car guy? :)

22

I'd like to see an interview with Luke Fink too see if he is really that ignorant as they say...

23

How bout we keep the interviews to the magazines...

24

thank you for sharing with us,i like it very much and i will always give attention.

25

The Stig that is, not Sting, wtf.

26

How about Mr. Rod Chong himself?

I'm relatively new here, and I would like to know more about the man who has this unique but incredibly appealing angle on automotive style.

27

Clarkson, The Hamster Hammond, and Dr. Captain Slow. I want to know what they think of this crap that the History Channel is trying to pass off as an American Top Gear. I also want them to know that we don't want or need an American Top Gear. I'd be perfectly pleased if the BBC would just show the new episodes from Europe over here. We've already had enough Tanner Foust on American television.

28

irish prodrift driver christy carpenter

29

Kazama and aasbo

30

It would be nice to see an interview with someone like Kodayashi-san from MCR (Matchless Crowd Racing). A history piece on how he got into building amazing cars. Its amazing the story of a lot of the top tuners that started off street-racing and ended up having being professional car builders.

31

I would love another interview with Nakai-san. I can't get enough of RWB. Also Eric Bana. Seems to me he's a legit car-obsessed individual

32

i'd like to see more of a grass roots interview with some of the pacific northwests uprising talent.

in particular it wouldbe nice to hear from IAN FOURNIER and what his intentions are with regards to his future in drifting.

also how it came about for him to get to where he is now, sacrifices, money woes, logistics being so far from the main stream drift communities.those sorts of things that we can all relate to.

and he's near you Rod!!

my 2 cents

33

adam richards! i haven't heard news on him in a while! where's he at? whats he doing? is he still driving his rb26'd cefiro? :S

34

Any of the big Japanese drivers - Orido, Kumakubo, Saito, Nomura etc. Even the head guys at tuning shops, really liked the Smokey Nagata one

35

another vote for Rod! What about a Team Speedhunters post with the same questions to the team? That would give a great insight

36

I would like to see an interview with fellow Speedhunter Andrea Bertolini; his driving philosophy is interesting and definitely more focused than most. An interview with Tsuchiya about the ARTA HSV would be pretty cool too since all we've seen of the HSV is pictures.

37

It just keeps getting better and better! Keep it up Speedhunters!!!!!!!

38

Duane McKeever, the 14 year old driver in JDM Allstars

39

you should give a look at the guys at ukracing in milan... i have never seen a place like that EVER! and incredibly it's in Italy, they have loads of exotics cars such as TVR and Radical and are real car maniacs!

40

i think an interview with one of the Petit Le Mans Drivers of LMP1 would be pretty awesome. Question to ask, whats your favorite track and favorite moment on it? something random and silly :P

Rod, while youre in algarve, is there anyway you can hand out some stickers?
