Random Snap>> Rubens Vs Schuey

How many of you guys are F1 fans? I seem to have curbed my motorsports television intake a bit this year, but I never, ever miss a F1 race… especially with the amazing, commercial-free coverage that the BBC  has been offering up as of late…. Now after every race weekend is over and I've finished taking in the excellent F1 Forum discussion panel with BBC presenters Jake Humphrey, David Coulthard, Eddie Jordan and Martin Brundle, I'll head over to the JamesAllenonF1.com website. For me this is the best F1 commentary site on the planet, and James always has some interesting insider analysis to offer up.

He recently posted up this amazing photo of "that pass" (by Russell Batchelor) which sheds some new light on this controversial incident. Head over to his site to participate in the discussion!

I like Schumy's comment about it. Something to the effect, i must have given him too much room cause he still passed me.

2

Schuey was overly aggressive in his attempts to block Rubens, it was unnecessarily dangerous and he deserved the criticism he received from the commentators.

3

Schumacher could have killed Rubens with this reckless move.

This picture shows that he is looking over at him too as he pushes him closer to the wall.

4

This pass is what F1 is all about. If you can't take the heat, get out of F1. If anything it was an excellent display of ability by both drivers to push their limits on the track without incident. Moments like those are what define F1 as the pinnacle of motor racing.

5

Reminds me of something Aryton Senna would do...anything to win. Can we really detest him for adding some needed drama, excitement and action to F1? Personally, I think not.

6

This is F1! ! !

BBC is King when it comes down to F1...

And Schumi v. the rest.

7

I was wondering when you guys were gonna add some F1 coverage. Now lets see a full article. :)

8

that was michael as his worst.

just like the old michael...its bad cause in this shot you can even see him looking right at rubens. he deserves to be in deep shit for this, could've been so much worse than it was.

9

He shouldn't have done it but this is racing. There isn't enough overtaking as it is, that was awesome!

10

I only watch the F1 coverage to see what the fuck Eddie Jordan is wearing each time :)

11

Lots of space left..

whiners...

12

i dunno if i was racing in f1 i would be pretty agressive too...

13

@Marmot: Oh because they make millions of dollars, it's totally ok to push drivers into the wall? Great way to think !

There is a fine line between being aggressive, and being downright idiot, and this time Schumacher crossed that line.

14

Marmot,, well said.. too many bias opinions when it comes to drivers. Schuey is jundging the distance of his long time partner so he will give him JUST enough room to make it heart stoping...Im fucking drunk and i can see it.. Im drunk writing this and i can still understand the psychology of the drivers. WOW i spelled psychology right. Anyway it was a really agresive block but he gave him just enough room not to crash. And too much room to pass.... blah blah blah doesn't matter what i write people are fans of drivers and don't really GET IT. Don't really understand the skill of the top drivers to judge safety. Michael doesn't really care if he wins a championship he is just having fun with his old buddies... OK nighty night race fans..

15

My brother and I were literally shouting in excitement when this happened~ Personally I thought it was a way too aggressive by Schumacher but I'm glad that he apologised.

My two favourite drivers at the moment are Mark Webber and Kamui Kobayashi. What a race by both drivers last race weekend! Loved it and I can't wait till the next race comes around!

16

you should credit the phtotographer

17

I really in the right mind can and will not tell you people who think this was awsome how reatarded you are. Sorry if the r-part is off the limit of word use but really Schumi's returnd I think councludes here. I myself have been a ferrari fan since 1993 and always rooted for Michel, Mika, Eddie and especally for Rubens cause the man and a driver he is. These actions really show what kind of a bad loser MS is and I as a childhood racing fan and a racer my slef am verrrrrry disepointed in all this. Michel should have been banned cause he but hes claws on another mans life potetially and this is not F1... not even sparta this is unsportsmanship and a sorrow sight of a great driver we once knew

18

the BBC broadcast is huge. I sadly don`t have BBC but i rather watch that than my native language variant.

I usually download the race from Piratebay later the same day.

19

Schumie took it too far. Had he pulled this a while still ahead of Reubens, valid block. Instead, he waited until he KNEW the pass was a done deal...and it was done in anger.

Great racing is what its about. What it is not about is a fading legend trying to reclaim lost glory, frustrated over being doomed to a slower car, and driving in anger. F1 needs excitement and passing, what it does not need is a dead pilot on the main pit straight in front of the grandstands.

20

I've added the photographer credit

21

I think that moves like that bring some spice to F1. But I belive that it is just too reckless to push somebody to the wall when you are racing at 250km/h. Killing Rubens on a move like that would have be a disgrace to the great carrer of Schummacher

22

What a change in attitude since they were team mates at Ferrari to rivals now. In Schumacher's defence, he didn't weave but chose a blocking line to the right side. Rubens went up the inside off track and over the pit lane exit! Sure he had the speed and could have gone around on outside to the left too. That is all part of the tactical game in F1 and top level motorsport, If you're going to go past me, I'm not going to make it any easier for you.

23

This is motorsport ! i mean look @ all these GT2 races thats normal in that class! and if somone drives a harder line in f1 everybody start to cry !

24

He as an aggressive driving style period. Maybe F1 was more exciting if more drivers drove like him.

25

26

@Alex, I never said anything about them getting paid millions of dollars and it being ok to push someone into a wall. You must be thinking of NASCAR. Did Schumacher push Barichello into the wall? No. There is a line all right, but no one crossed it. These men are there because they are capable or running on the ragged edge without going over and that is exactly what we saw here. Both drivers (and cars) came out of that situation without injury and finished the race, what more could you want?

27

Bring back this oldschool mentality of do or die racing!

28

29

But remember this rivalry stems back a bit farther. and BBC's coverage is by far better than anything out there in English. Ill miss a race when they play it on fox on purpose because the american commentary is so bland. It makes me feel like Im watching a golf tourney. Thanks but ill wait and grab a torrent of the BBC feed after the race. Just sucks when i inadvertently find out the results before I watch the race. That always sucks,

30

XPB? Is that you Thorsten? If so welcome to SpeedHunters and you are right the photographer needs a credit, must have been an oversight.

31

Agreed, not to discredit Varsha and Hobbs, I watched them when I was a kid when espn had f1 coverage, but the BBC preshow and race coverage is amazing. Although as a play by play guy, I think Varsha is better then Legard. Legard is too robot like, and i don't like the redbull from ferrari from ferrari from mclaren thing he does, but Brundle and him mesh pretty well as a team . Humphrey has done a great job, before him, the pre-show was not so good, it too bad that the red button and other BBC features are only for the UK.

The Pass! the pass was good racing lol, and Rubens knew that Schumacher was gonna pull this type of thing when he went to pass him. Good for Rubens that he passed him but this was expected, Schumacher was going to give him a fight, especially since it was the last point (10th place). Mercedes needs all the points they can get this year.

Can't wait for Spa, my favorite circuit.

32

@ Hundredpercent

True!!

33

Dan: Ayrton Senna would never do something to endanger another driver. He organised a commitee for the F1 drivers of his day to improve safety.

34

I think that because Shumacher did it everyone is finding excuses for it, if one of the lesser drivers did the same thing he would be banned immediately. Schumacker had his day, he should never have tried to come back. 3 years is a long time in F1 and he just can't keep up anymore.

35

@ Marmot

"As long as they didn't wreck" is what gets drivers killed. Running on the ragged edge is different from swerving at someone that was already going by. And don't tell me it was blocking, Reubens caught him with that move and the swerve was the late reaction. Blocking was what he was doing for the 3 laps prior.

36

@Alex

Crossed what line? Both cars had no damage, they didn't even touch. Both drivers are fine physically. No line was crossed. Might have, could have, maybe, what might have happened -- why are you focusing on what didn't happen? Take everything in context, don't take it out of context. Who care's what COULD have happened, focus on what DID happen -- an awesome pass with no incident.

Grow some balls, or stop watching motor racing. I hope to god you don't participate in it, you'd ruin everyone's fun with what MIGHT happen if people don't stay in a 1 by 1 processional and stay under 50mph. They used to race HARDER then that back when they had LESS safety precausions and LESS safe cars. Statistically F1 is almost the safest form of motor racing in the world. There are more accidents in 2 NASCAR races then there are in an entire F1 season -- and the F1 cars aren't generally going 200+mph on Super Ovals.

Get a grip, man. It was an awesome move, and you need to grow a pair, or take up knitting.

37

This was truely a great moment between two amazingly skilled drivers and I don't see why there are so many complaints about it. After all, Formula 1 needs those exciting moments and way too often, penalties are given out for whatever reason. Also, what about Monaco where avery attempt of overtaking ends up only inches from a wall or in the wall? Should that circuit be banned for being overly dangerous? I don't think so.

38

I guess you guys were just looking at the pretty NSX instead of listening to Ayrton Senna when you were freaking out over that video/tribute Format67.net did for the NSX.

39

didnt the same thing happen to a corvette and a porsche at a leman race at laguna saca that ended badly.

40

CHUPA ALEMÃO!!!!!!!!!!!

41

pleeeeeeeeeeease more f1 coverage speedhunters!!!

42

@Chris:

No, in that race a Porsche Driver defended up to the pit lane wall at Laguna. The Corvette driver was an idiot, and couldn't see past the red mist in his helmet to remember that the Laguna pit lane juts in towards the track after a few feet. He knew that -- very well. A professional driver for a professional team knows that blindfolded. He was an idiot, and when the Porsche had him in a "Gotcha!" move (because he couldn't do anything besides brake, therefore it was a genius blocking/defending move), he didn't brake, he just rammed into a wall like a moron. That was the Vette drivers fault 100%.

On the other hand, nothing similar happened here -- because NOTHING HAPPENED. What is wrong with you people, the cars didn't even touch, I don't care what you want to throw at this... nobody even TOUCHED anyone.... people bump tires in a race more consistently then having a good pass like that.

43

There's a tribute vid of "schumi's specials " on evo.co.uk

44

serious amount idiots posting in here.

look how close Barichello is to the wall. one slight change in track conditions causing either car to twitch would easily have killed one, or both of them. there's driving defensively and pushing someone off line and then there's forcing them off of the track itself - the area Barichello is in would be littered with balls of rubber and other race track flotsom. this was just outright stupidity from Schumacher.

45

You guys better ask Rubens, the actual driver that almost hit that wall. He was asked at the end of the race if this was the most dangerous move that he has had in his entire racing career and he said: "Yes, it was".

One can say many things out of that F1 cockpit watching this on TV, and yes that move was awesome, but it was NOT necessary.

Go Red Bulls!!!!

46

The funny thing is that this fight was just for 10th position - that's 1 point!

anyway, this reminds me of Interlagos 2006 when Kimi (the man who was set to replace Schu in 2007) passed Schu on the inside going into the Senna S corner. Schu squeezed him in so much that Kimi almost rubbed the pit wall. Schu was mental in that race - he had a tyre puncture near the middle and ended up executing pass after pass to finish 4th. Schuey at his finest

47

only ferrari the best of the best...no ferrari no F1.................

48

F1 is very exciting this year. I've actually watched all the races!
