Photo Roll>> Le Mans Classic By Laurent Nivalle

This simply awe-inspiring set of photographs by French photographer Laurent Nivalle was pointed out to us by Speedhunters reader Sang Park. Aren't we glad you came across these Mr. Park ! The images are from this years 2010 Le Mans Classic which took place at Le Sarthe early last month. Shot primarily on a full frame Canon 5D MKII with the superb 85mm F1.2 L lens, Laurent has used this perfect pairing of camera and lens to almost take us back in time. For a change I'm not going to harp on about how great the images are, but instead let the images do the talking.

I've included a link to the full set on Laurent's website at the bottom which I simply must urge you to check out.

Just perfect.

OMG! I NEED that first GT40 shot as a desktop as well as the rest of these pictures

These pics are great. I'm no photographer by any means but any time i feel like i am looking at photos from the period then its a result.

3

Can he spare me the tone preset he uses ? The photos really look old.

4

Wow these are sick! I love the quality and the effect he achieved. What is it called and how do you do it?

ps The Gullwing would make a great desktop also

5

That 917 is gorgeous. I am now going to hunt high and low for a poster of that image. Thanks Park.

6

Speechless..

..and absolutely adore the "Tone". Feel like Steve McQueen is sitting there somewhere..

Just saw majority of all these classics last weekend at german CLASSIC DAYS event at Dyck castle. Still living from it as we speak..

7

Ahhh, damn, I want some desktops from this. That would be nice : D

8

Absoloutley beautifull shots and cars!

9

what an era of motorsports. improvements and new ideas all over the place all the time. even some out of the box ideas, something u dont see muh in todays motorsports.

10

If I had to guess I'd say it was something along the lines of lowering the contrast, adding a slightly yellow/green hue, add excellent photography, and some sun flares to top it off.

Could I replicate it? Hell no. That's just a guess on how it was achieved. I'm sure if you goggle how to get the retro look you'll find a guide.

11

Errrm... never saw something like that before. Mind-blowing!

All we need are some Wallpapers now!

12

absolutely amazing, i bet all those old school cars were like music to everyones ears :)

13

the 'bids eye view' of the cars in pit-lane are amazing. the composition is excellent.

14

saw this earlier in the week, so wicked! and F1.2 L lens :OOOOOO

15

This for me pretty much defines what motorsport is all about. Enough said.

16

For me, these photos truly define motorsport in a nutshell. Enough said.

17

This guys needs to learn more than one editing technique and needs to learn how to create a sequence. Using the same editing technique for every, single, photo. Laziness.

18

Awesome pictures, each one of them. Any chance of some new old desktops? ;)

19

Damn the race cars back then looked so much better then they do today...

20

I love these photos. I love the processing, old vintage feel is perfect with these classic rides.

21

pix are so dope!

22

Those dished mesh rims on the bmw are beautiful.

23

Some beautiful work.

24

absolutely beautiful! just the 85? its a great length! must have been up pretty high for some of the last shots!

can someone (or the photographer) tell me how on earth you made them so 'old school' looking?! is it washed out colours and some cross processing or something? about 3/4 of them made me think these photos were 'barn find photos' from the late 60s, you convinced me!

25

LOVE the pictures, thanks for sharing. These pictures have a very vintage feel, is this accomplished in post production or is it strictly from the combination of camera and lens? If no post, what is it about this particular lens/camera combo that produces these kind of images(aside from the photog's skill)? I know photography month is behind us, but I gotta know! thx.

26

Beautifully done. Great colors too! There's something about vintage racecars that just seems so special, and Nivalle seemed to capture that perfectly.

27

29

Amazing color correction in these images! Desktop of the BMW?

30

85 f1.2? getting that lens will cost you more than an arm and a leg!!!

31

32

44

F'n Awesome!

46

@ OMG Pancakes - You say lazy, I say excellent direction, vision and consistency. Have you any idea how difficult it is to do a set like this ?

48

OMG Pancakes, I've got to disagree. I think the goal is to have similar edits throughout. You don't want to mix it up too heavily and have a group of photos that clash horribly with each other. The photographer did a great job.
