In The Moment>> A Monster That Lives On The Mountain

At 14,110 feet, there's only about 61% of the breathable oxygen that many of us are used to. Monster Tajima's Suzuki SX-4's twin charged 3.1L V6, which produces 910 horse power, would only develop 555 horses at the summit of Pikes Peak! At that elevation, even I had a difficult time moving from photo spot to photo spot. Just imagine going up to 14,110 feet in 12 minutes, let alone 10…. But would Monster's years of experience on the famed hill climb, and the fact that the course is now ~65% paved, assist him with breaking the sub 10 minute barrier? We'll see this Sunday.

The results from today's practice session has not been released yet so I can't tell you how both Monster and Rhys faired in the top section of the course. I'll post the results as soon as they're released.

For now, head on over to the desktops section to grab this photo of Monster Tajima at a corner just under Boulder Park (13,380 feet)!

So there's more pavement now, but the same record is still valid?

And the "desktops" link is wrong. :)

15

need more of these backgrounds for sure! that place is beautfiul. cant wait to see the results

many people harp on the environmentalists who lobbied for the slow paving of the mountain, but I think it adds more competition year to year. As it adds another possible change that the drivers have to prepare themselves for. Aside from the elevation and the weather.

beautiful picture and my new desktop ... truly art.

18

Great photo!!!! I have the same question: did the SX4 replaced the old Escudo?

19

Oxygen deprivation moment..

It should be making more than 61% of its sea-level horsepower, turbocharger will spin faster in the lower pressure air and make up some of that power loss

@naranjopino: 11,400 feet converts roughly to 3475 meters.
