Car Spotlight >> Sagisaka’s D1 Altezza

Despite all the new "big" cars missing from the D1 Round in Fuji this past weekend I was very happy to see an all new addition to the lineup. Enter Sagisaka's new 2JZ powered SXE10 Altezza built by Sagisaka SPL in collaboration with Koyama Racing Labo. This pretty much retires his old 13B powered AE86 in an effort to stay competitive against the powerful machinery everyone is rocking in D1 lately.

Sagisaka was really going for it at Fuji, making full use of all…

…the 700 HP his Trust T78 boosted 2JZ cranks out.

Koyama-san is quickly making a name for himself in his new venture.

Sagisaka posing for the cameras during the pit walk session.

The car is sporting a very Team Orange like livery.

I quite liked the polished engine covers.

With lots of power, braking upgrades are a must, so 6-pot Endless calipers are joined…

…at the rear with a twin stock 2-pot set-up, one for the regular braking circuit and the other for the hydraulic side-brake.

The venting in the center part of the hood is there to help extract hot air from the engine bay while the twin Trust oil coolers at each corner of the bumper try to keep the 2JZ within operating temperature.

The rear wing probably came in handy at Fuji to help keep the rear end under control during those high speed transitions.

Open the driver door and you are faced with a serious looking interior and roll-cage.  The stock instrumentation has been replaced with a Stack dash unit and a Momo steering wheel that easily snaps off to facilitate the entry and exit procedure.

All the switchgear has been neatly arranged in the center console, same place where the Trust Profec B can be found.

Bride buckets of course!

Sagisaka managed to qualify in 27th on the Saturday session, but with additional testing I'm sure he could do much better if he participates in the next round in Okayama.

Good luck, the Altezza's are very common here and are notoriously twitchy and unpredictable when driven at the limit.

IS it not just a question of tweaking the cars, upper and lower strut braces, and fine tuning the suspension etc, i seem to remember reading a TRD set up Altezza, mention that, or the like ?
