Random Snap>> Porsche 911 Gt1-98

The Porsche 911 GT1-98 'Street Version' is a mean looking item. Flown direct from the Porsche museum in Germany for the 800+ car event FOSC held at Mt Panorama, N.S.W.

Stay tuned for full event feature.

14

I wonder if the Street Version does backflips at 200 mph like the Race Version did.

15

Gonna have to concur here:

DESKTOP!!!

16

Shavo26: It is the street version, they even announced it.

17

hence the registration number plate Landkreis Böblingen, Böblingen, Baden-Württemberg (aka BB) which is just south east of Stutgart

18

And the race versions had extra-round headlamps on the front wings and sat way lower on the ground...

new infos: in fact it's a bit complicated.

Concerning the STREET VERSIONS: during 1997 a unique car was built by the Porsche factory based on the 1996 RACECAR with the short wheel-base (SWB); This first street v. was used for tests and dixit Jürgen Barth it never left the factory. This car had the round lights of the 993 model as well as it's taillight strip. The next year, in 1998, the GT1 Street version began to be sold, based this time on the 1997 RACECAR. It featured the new 996 lights and still looked like say a Maserati MC12.

20 were sold at around 760.000euros.

Then in 1998 a new GT1 went on to win Le Mans. It was more of more tortured looks (like say a Toyota TS020). From this new design only one Street v. was built still in possession of the Museum today. It is the car shot above...

23

I know about the street version one, compare to google image one's, you'll se that the body kit is not the original one's

24

google ain't precise

If you read what i wrote you see that the street v. always came one year after the race v.

So when porsche lead the hyper aerodynacally efficient GT1 to victory in 1998 they were also selling 20 street v. from the past year racer. Later they built ONE street version of the 1998 racer in late 1998 or 1999 kept by the museum (At that time the GT1 racing career was already over). IT is the car above. We could look in a way and call BB:GT 198 the only porsche 911 GT1 Street version millesime 1999

25

wow it looks amazing in pure white with out any livery like the race versions. lovely photo.

26

thats a street car..??!! wow.. a 'street car named desire' more like - i can't believe it..

27

It is the gran'son of Count Rossi 917...

I have to join in here.

I rode with the late, great Bob Wollek in this car from the track to the centre of LeMans and back where the scrutineering traditionally takes place on the Tuesday before the 24 hour race. A memory I treasure.

One road car was required it that year for homologation and Porsche fulfilled that obligation to the letter. Of the other teams I think Nissan and Panos had cars there, at leased in spirit, Mercedes went on to build a series and has anyone ever seen a street Toyota GT1?
