Car Feature>> Ferrari 458

Ferrari just announced thier replacement of the Ferrari F430, the all-new 458 Italia. Set to be launched next year, the new mid-engined Ferrari will sport a new 4.5 litre flat-plane crank V8 as usual, but this time with direct-injection delivering a whopping 562hp at an insane 9000rpm and 398lb-ft of torque, highest revving engine ever for a Ferrari production road car I think.

The new direct-injection engine can come mated to Ferrari's new seven speed dual clutch gearbox, I don't know about you, but I'd still much rather have the manual box. There is something so romantic about the old school gated shifter, aluminum spherical knob, and a clutch, it just screams italian exotic.

Ok, the numbers: 202mph top speed, 3.4 seconds to 62mph, and 21mpg? Seriously, a Ferrari brochure shouldn't include things like emissions ratings and EPA estimates, but hey, thats just me. I wonder what it will post at Fiorano….

The new car will come equipped with all sorts of gadgetry, E-Diff, F1-Trac, ABS, and other acronyms. What really matters to me though in a Ferrari (not that I can afford one now, or ever..) is the sound, the feel, and the style.

When I first saw the 458, a few hours ago, I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed. Much like the California launched recently, its just not as pretty or aggressive as I'd hope. But….. now that I've spent some more time looking at the press pictures, I've studied the lines a bit more, I think I can see where they were trying to go with it. Its definitely growing on me. Some of the styling elements, the side graphic and rear flare, remind me of Japanese styling of the last few years. The rear definitely has an FXX flavor to it which is cool, and the headlights are interesting. Ferrari is a forward thinking company, not caught up in doing anything retro, or throwbacks of previous models, which I think it makes it difficult for car afficianados to latch onto newer models when there isn't a lot of heritage in the styling. I know that once I see the car in person it will all become clear to me, for right now though, I'd prefer a F430 Scuderia, or an F40 LM in my dream garage.

Front lights are different, classic Ferrari though..............dream garage hmmm lets see.........512BB, nothing like a 12!!!

2

Ferrari's aren't realy my cup of thea, and the rims are awfull. They look like they came straight out of the 90's.

3

Im in love. The car looks amazing. I would prefer the Enzo dual tail lights, however, I think this car is going to dominate.

4

A triple exhaust.. Never seen that before.

5

I'm seeing Optimus Prime when I look at the rear end of this car:P His eyes.

6

It actually does look like optimus haha

I think transformers may be real? OMFG

Have you never seen a Ferrari F40?

9

front end reminds me of a Lp560-4 for some reason. does any body else see it?

10

horrible

Hey I like a manual as much as the next guy but I am also a fan of going fast and paddles are the fastest right now. Does only the 6 speed manual gearbox scream Italian exotic? Or does it scream what your preconception of an Italian exotic is?

no... its madflaps face... lol, the car looks great, more like enzo with curves.

13

i too would prefer something gated, something with a clutch, but to each his own..

as for the exhaust.

so ferraris are going to be looking nice again? :) very impressive

15

BEST FERRARI IVE SEEN THUS FAR!

16

Awesome car...but lack of a gated shifted shifter kills it, I loving going fast as much as the next person as quick as possible, but a gated shifted immerses you in the driving experience and just gives you that much better feel of the overall driving experience. Give me three pedals and a stick anyday.

17

LOVE IT

but in my opinion

they should have kept the 4 tail lights like the F430

but redifined of course

18

I agree with IsaacGT-R, they should have stuck with four taillights. It's been carried down since the F355, and a mid-engined Ferrari looks strange without it.

Everyone loves the gated shifter, but the only way for a driver to achieve the crazy numbers that Ferrari posts, it can only be done with help from the computer. However, I too would prefer a third pedal in my Ferrari.

Can't wait for the Scuderia/Stradale version to come along.

The 3 exhausts must be something to do with extraction, some of the Australian V8 Supercars run 3 exhausts.

The 3 exhausts on the F40 was one for each bank then a wastegate dump pipe.

20

phew,, when i saw that ugly Calfornia I thought new ferraris gonna suck but this... is BEAutifuL!

though face needs more character I reckon.

21

Does anyone else notice the obvious similarities to the Lotus Evora?

22

Love it...

- Now excuse me if i'm wrong but it sounds like you haven't been behind the wheel of a paddle-shift ferrari (fair assumption?), and I haven't either, but those that i know that have....loved it.

I agree with one of the top comments that the gated shifter seems like a preconception only ;)

24

Yawn... I can't afford it and wouldn't buy one if I could; there are plenty of ways to go faster for less money (and not look like a douche.)

25

It's lines evoke fond memories of the McLaren F1 for me...

this is the best thing to come from ferrari since the 599. The tops of the rear fenders dropping into vents that exit next to the taillights is a stroke of genius. And as for the author saying it's not aggressive enough, the thing has fucking mad dog eyebrows, how much more aggression do you want? A sense of subtlety is something that is classic ferrari trait that has been lost with recent designs. Its pure sex plus a punch in the face. GJ ferrari.

28

It's a Ferrari so it's beautiful!

Actually I find it hideous.

But it will be extremely fast in straights and corners...

29

It has a lot of similarities to the ASL Gariya

30

Interesting reading your commenst guys...

31

its a beautiful machine and ditto to david beasley

32

What a copy of the Acura RSC cheap ass Ferrari

33

Yes EXTREMLY similar to Acura RSX

34

It needs dual tail lights on each side rather than just one

35

Like very much,Ferrari has been always the pioneer...

Liked the single tail lights,3 chrome exhausts and the profile, but wish if Ferrari would change the rims and get more sexy shoes for this beauty!

36

I love the overall sillouette. I just couldn't get pass the single tail lights. Quad tailights is one of the best design features that late Ferraris have. And the three tailpipes. Controversial despite F40.

37

sorry, its just ugly.the rear is alright, but the front?cmon..it reminds me of a korean car..thats not the way ferraris should look like...

38

Hey guys I hope all is well with you! I've been pretty busy as of late, getting my new life in Stockholm
