Gallery>>tokyo Car Style Pt.2

Now for a few more pictures from last weekend's car-spotting adventures in Tokyo.

The area around Shibuya is filled with pedestrian overpasses which make a nice spot to view the cars below, though I'm sure I looked mighty strange standing up there shooting photos of passing traffic. Oh well, I like doing these posts. I'll start with this shot of Honda Fit 1.5S zipping through one of Shibuya's big (and incredibly confusing) intersections.

This guy's enjoying a nice Saturday morning drive in his MG-F roadster. Anyone else see the resemblance to a mid-engine roadster built by a certain company that we are featuring this month?

E46 M3 rolling by the famous Starbucks at Shibuya Crossing. One of the busiest Starbucks branches in the world apparently…

This scene of a Porsche rolling alongside a "big scooter" is so Tokyo. I couldn't believe how many Porsches I saw drive by during the short time was out there. 20 at the very least…

Here's an extremely rare find, an Isuzu Piazza – better known as the Impulse in the USA. I have fond memories of going to the junkyard with my buddies and acquiring the "Handling by Lotus" badges from these cars. As far as I can remember, this is the first Piazza I've seen driving on the street in Japan.

Right after I saw the Isuzu,  in a strange coincidence I spotted another rare sports car from the '80s, the Mitsubishi Starion. This example looks completely original except for the SSR mesh wheels.

Another tuned Legacy Wagon, the unofficial "grown ups sports car" of Japan.

And finally, seeing this vintage Aston Martin DB6 on the streets Harajuku was a fine way to finish off a day in Tokyo. At first I thought this was the same car I spotted driving near Hakone last year, but I checked the two pictures and found some slight differences. THIS is living.

Great feature! :)

That starion is the zenki model. Personally I like the widebody better, however this example looks stunning without those wide arches!

This is indeed living! And I want to live in Tokyo as well! :'(

About the first picture of the MG, you're refering to the MR2, right? :D

3

Glad to see someone out there is still maintaining those old Starions. They were (are) very cool cars.

4

Nice gallery. Wish I could go to Japan someday..... *sigh*

Great spot on the Piazza, Starion and the DB6. A worthy spot in any case.

5

i love your posts!!!!!!!!!! the other contributors should do awesome things like this!

6

People that want to visit Japan should just go! Its cheaper than a set of RAYS wheels.

7

I was also amazed by the amount of 911's in Tokyo.

Especially in Shinjuku, where I saw 4 of those at the one small intersection.

8

That Starion is sick!! dammit, I'm gonna miss your commentary from Japan. Maybe when I move there in 6 months I'll take over your place :p

9

Nice collection of photos, I hope this won't be the last.

Do the Japanese culturally keep their cars squeaky clean? I remember seeing a documentary about a Japanese car wash where they were obsessively methodical, but I thought maybe this was a one-off.

10

Seeing cars from other continents is always cool. I had never even heared of the Piazza before this post.

11

I cant believe an Isuzu Piazza made it onto speedhunters. They are they filthiest japanese car alive.

12

Actually I thought that the roadster was a Suzuki Cappuccino... That's I need to get a suzuki Capp... Such neat cars...

13

If you're referring to the MR-S, I believe the MG-F came out first. Cool Starion! Aston DB6--suuaaave!

14

@section09: in my case that would be 3 sets of Rays... Tickets of wife and kid have to be paid for as well. :(

15

bobberz is right, but the MG-F was heavily influenced by the Honda Beat

16

That picture of the Aston made my day. Beautiful.

17

it's great to see a Starion kept in such good shape.

In my first couple of months in Japan, I saw sooo many Ferrari's, I needed to drink Chianti to cope. Took about 3 months to see my first Porsche. Now I see them almost every day... Xmas Day in Jiyugaoka I spotted a 70's Lincoln Continental (the first porthole one) parked up a narrow shopping street, just around the corner from Top Gear used watches. I wanted to wait for the owner of the Lincoln to come back to the car, so I could watch it being piloted like a canal boat, but samui deshita.
