Drama on Day Six of the Dakar Rally!!!

A number of news sites are reporting, the overall leader, Nasser Al-Attiyah, has been disqualified from the event this evening after missing a marker point during the day. Al-Attiyah had set the fastest time of the day, increasing his lead, before disqualification. Al-Attiyah’s BMW had started to overheat early in the day, so he bypassed the first set of dunes. Unfortunately for the Quatari, one of the hidden marker points which are used to ensure the competitors take the correct route was located in these dunes.

The shock disqualification gives Volkswagen a 1-2-3. Robbie Gordon had a good day in the Monster Energy Hummer and has moved up the order, into sixth.Luc Alphard and Yvan Muller retired from the event today.

That is a shame to hear that Nasser Al-Attiyah has been disqualified. He was looking pretty good in the rally and was the only person to give the VW a fight. Oh well, bad luck I guess......
