Event>>tuning Powers 2008 Pt.2

It's time to continue the coverage from my trip to last weekend's Tuning Powers show in Tokyo. As you saw in my first post, there were plenty of really cool and unique cars to be found at the event. While I said that the show draws a lot of the smaller tuners from around Japan, as you can see in the photo above, it also draws some of the bigger ones like JUN Auto who brought out their now famous Evo X demo car. They have done even more work to this car since the last time I saw it and I'm hoping I'll get the chance to see it in action at Tsukuba Circuit again soon.

Now on with the rest of the show coverage-

How about another shot of the RWB Porsche that nobody can seem to get enough of? Just look at that thing!

Can you see what I was talking about when I said this show is aimed towards the hardcore? Nagoya Precision had their full line of high performance engine components on display. NAPREC makes some seriously high quality parts.

C&Y Sports also brought their recently finished Hakosuka Skyline project all the way to Tokyo for the show.

Under the hood lies this single turbine 2JZ that has been shoved WAY back into the firewall. I guess this sort of balances out the RB26-powered AE86 that C&Y also brought to the show.

This JZA80 Supra was another one of the many drag cars on display at Tuning Powers.

Here is another view of the sexy carbon R32 GT-R from Garage Saurus.

This E46 BMW 3-series sedan looks very stock on the outside. What is it doing here?

It happens to be powered by a 380ps turbo rotary from an FD3S RX7. Very strange, but also very cool.

This left hand drive S130 Datsun 280ZX looked pretty cool with its 5-lug conversion and Work Emotion XT7 wheels.

It's powered by this fully built turbocharged 3.1 liter L-series engine that powers the car to high nine second ET's in the 0-400.

This Corolla sedan (TE21?) was also looking really cool with its ultra clean exterior and flawless RS Watanabe wheels.

And under the hood was this spotless naturally aspirated 3S swap. Absolutely beautiful.

HKS brought Nob Taniguchi's JZS161 Aristo drift car. This build is very similar to the new Aristo that Nob's good friend Orido is driving in Formula D.

Here's a very cool air cooled VW Beetle circuit car. I like how the "Sato" logo on the door is done the same way as the logo for the American company named Scat that makes VW race parts.

Blitz brought out one of Nomuken's ER34 D1GP cars and partially disassembled it so showgoers could get a good look at its undersides. This is the sort of thing you won't see at Auto Salon.

This wicked drag car built by Rising was once a B110 Nissan Sunny.

Here's a better look at the engine on this beast. It's a fully tuned and turbocharged Toyota 3S. Wicked. Rising has built some of the craziest cars I have seen anywhere in Japan.

I really liked this clean BMW E30 sedan with TE37's. Simple and tasteful.

I'll finish this up with CRWCH's wild S30Z drag car.

Under the hood is this RB26 fed by two gigantic turbos. A perfect way to end our look at a show that is all about the hardcore side of the Japanese tuning world.

Nomukens ER34 just goes to show you that you don't need to spend over $3000 on an aftermarket big brake kit to go drifting. Just upgrade to some Z32 brakes.

Wow, the Japanese have the market for weird swaps cornered! I love it! Any Idea what is in that crazy VW? I noticed a RUF sticker on the front, is it a 911 swap or something?

4

Rotary powered e46!? That thing must be a neck-snapper. (the most extreme case of head-turner where you rotate your skull so fast to see what just drove by, your neck breaks.)

X.X

5

Amazing selection of cars, the Japs doing their finest work!

6

Since the C&Y Sports RB86 and 2J Hakosuka were there, was the VQ35 RX7 there? All I have seen of that car is ~7 pictures on their website. C&Y does some uncommon swaps that's for sure.

Thanks for the coverage!

Holy f*cking sh*t !!!! That green Hakosuka is just soooo f*cking awesome. I have no other words to describe it. Look at that hand-made down pipe, freaking awesome !!!! Super clean.

Abe-san knows how to build a clean/ functional car for his boss....lol

....and that Nissan Sunny's I/C piping? OFF THE HOOK !!!! Look at the size of those piping with Wiggins clamps.....awesome !

Thanks Mike.

8

holy shit. that is some crazy tuning skills. i cant believe how nice those cars look with so much modification!!

9

I think that Corolla sedan is a KE20. Same goes for the TE71 in one your earlier post, that was a KE70 as well, or at least that's what they are called here, might be different elsewhere, I've no idea :P

10

Stunning stuff!

11

MOAR DESKTOPS OF THE RWB PORSCHE, NOW.

12

RWB Porsche, R32, E30 Bimmer, I am having trouble processing all this. Sensory overload.

13

In that Nissan Sunny drag car the engine reminds me of a CA18det, only way highly modified!

Beautiful pic of the engine!

14

wat the hell is on that sunny's ic piping? water cooler? alcohol?

wtf?

A Sunny will never look the same to me after seeing this drag version. Mike had taken pictures of this car previously, during one his Speedhunters' features on the Tuning Powers Show in Tokyo, but I've just found a video of this same car on the
